Having No Idea Is Scary

Emery's sudden question made Catherine's heart skip a beat.

'What do you think of my brother?'

What was the question implying?

All the while, Emery observed Catherine Sage who appeared to be struggling, thanks to her question.

Was it that hard to answer?

"Though we've only met once, you cared a lot about me and you always look out for me. Even just now, you said that my brother will be worried to death if I happen to pass out in the street," Emery Hayes clarified. "From what I see, you care about my brother a lot. Am I right, Miss Sage?"

Catherine Sage remained quiet for a while more and then flashed a smile. "Your brother is a great person, Emery. And I know how much he cares for you. That's why." She made a deliberate pause and continued by saying, "You're practically his world."

There was a slight change in Emery's reaction when she heard Catherine. "Did Jason say that?"

Catherine Sage nodded her head. "Kind of. So, if anything happens to you, it will surely break him."

Once again, Emery Hayes was processing what she heard as she narrowed her eyes while Catherine stared at her with a hint of curiosity on her face.

"Then Miss Sage, why do you care about that?" Emery suddenly asked again and thought twice before she asked, "Do you like my brother?"

Now that Emery's question became more straightforward, Catherine Sage seemed to be struggling to respond even more than she did before. Her mind was completely occupied by something and she wasn't even aware of how Emery observed her the whole time.

"I'm sorry if I make you uncomfortable," Emery Hayes said when she believed that she had observed enough. "I asked my brother if you have talked to him since that night and he told me that you don't. That's why I was curious if he made any mistake while driving you home that night. I must have overthought it."

"That's not the case." Catherine's refusal came faster than ever and it surprised Emery. And when Catherine saw the latter's expression, she was feeling guilty.

"I'm sorry, Emery," she promptly apologized and continued, "It's not how you think."

"What are you referring to, Miss Sage?" Emery curiously asked. "About me asking you if you like my brother or about the possibility of my brother offending you. Which one?"

Emery's persistence made Catherine sigh but soon, it was followed by a smile. "Let's talk about it some other day, Emery. Rest for now."

Though she was curious, Emery Hayes realized that it wasn't a good idea to pressure her while they've barely known each other. Besides, her brother won't be pleased with it.

"What about you?" She asked Catherine Sage. Wasn't she a busy person?

"I clear my schedule for the rest of the day," Catherine told her. "I will stay with you until your father or brother comes home."

"You sound like I'm a patient," Emery pointed out with a giggle while Catherine smiled at her.

"I heard about your condition from your brother that night," she frankly said. "That's why I was more worried than I should when I heard that you didn't know where you were today."

Somehow, Emery was reminded of what happened in the Pierre family mansion. And just like Marcus said, her thoughts were obvious in her face, alerting the CEO of Sage Security.

"Did something bad happen?" Catherine asked and continued, "Where I came to get you... it's not far from where the Pierre family mansion is." She still remembered that Emery was engaged to the only son of Pierre Group.

Did this have something to do with her fiance?

"I was foolish," Emery muttered in a low and calm voice. She looked at Catherine Sage who glanced at her with a mixture of concern and curiosity on her face and forced a little smile. "Let's just say that I went ahead of myself and crossed a line I shouldn't have."

Catherine Sage didn't understand what Emery was saying but... she indeed noticed the sadness in her eyes. "It's about your fiance, right?" She asked.

Emery narrowed her eyes and thought of the glimpse of her forgotten memory she recalled while she was in pain. "You know what, Miss Sage? I thought that it might be best for me if I don't regain my lost memories but... I realize that I was wrong."

She briefly paused and continued by saying, "I should have those memories back to know what kind of person I was towards the people in my life. Having no idea... is scary."

Catherine Sage carefully thought of a way to console Emery who appeared so downhearted in contrast to her usual cheerful nature. "My father always told me that there is a time and reason for everything. So, I'm sure that the same goes for you, Emery. Right now, maybe it's better for you to not know anything and when the time is right, I believe that those memories will eventually find their way back to you."

"Do you really believe that?" Emery sounded like a little kid who need assurance and Catherine showed her a warm smile with a nod.

"I do. If you stay patient for a while more, I believe that everything will turn out better than ever before."

Emery thought of Catherine's words and finally, she flashed a genuine smile. "Thank you for saying that, Miss Sage."

* * *

Marcus Pierre was alone in his room when the guard he sent to watch over Emery walked inside and approached him. Upon seeing the guard, Marcus put aside whatever he was doing and had his attention on him.

"Did everything go well?" He promptly asked the guard with a hint of concern still in his voice.

"Yes, Mr. Pierre. However, Miss Hayes didn't return home right away and walked around instead. The CEO of the security company I worked for came to pick her up near MK Shopping Mall and drove her home," the guard informed Marcus Pierre.

The CEO of a security company? Marcus recalled how the security in both his family mansion and company buildings was provided by Sage Security.

Catherine Sage from that night?

"Alright. Thank you for the hard work."

"No problem, Mr. Pierre." With that said, the guard bowed and walked out of Marcus's room.

Emery was with Catherine Sage but when Marcus thought of their conversation earlier in the day, he felt the pressure once again.

What was he supposed to do? And why did she walk all the way to the mall?

She wasn't even still that well!
