Chapter 6

Listening to my father beg not to have to sleep on the couch was quite therapeutic. It had been just a few days since my outburst and although things have stayed relatively the same everything seemed much more enjoyable than before. It was strange but it was nice nonetheless.

In any case, with the confirmation that magic was real, I doubled my efforts to increase my mana capacity as well as the speed at which I can use it. I have no real frame of reference to go off so I am mostly in the dark however progress is always progress.

Magic was an interesting concept as it appeared to be fairly rare within the populace but why was that? Based on my current theory it could be that most people's cells simply don't produce enough to utilize if any at all but I think there is another reason.

Genetics.

It was fairly obvious but a mage's child always had a higher chance of utilizing mana than otherwise which leads me to believe that the ability to use mana is simply an evolutionary trait that is rarely passed down.

There are obvious flaws in the theory as mana had been discovered nearly ten thousand years ago and yet it was still as rare as it once was but I had time to figure out the minute details later in life if I so pleased.

In any case, I have more important things to ponder at the moment. My father explained the basics of swordsmanship to me now that he knew I had a certain level of intelligence. His explanations of the techniques were… lackluster but I received a broad idea of what he was talking about.

There are three main paths of swordsmanship which have essentially invalidated all other weapons however that is a discussion for another day. In any case, these three paths are the Sword God style, Water God style, and North God style.

Sword God style focused on extreme speed and power to defeat an opponent in a single blow, the Water God style focused purely on defense and counters with a focus on flexibility to simulate water, and the North God style was the 'dirty' method of fighting.

In my opinion, the North God style was the most useful as it taught not only swordsmanship but how to survive using everything at your disposal whether it be throwing your sword or spitting in the opponent's eyes.

In my opinion, it didn't matter if you could win every battle if you couldn't survive with as little injury as possible however my father had a differing opinion. He believed that it was shameful and dirty and used it as rarely as possible but he did have quite the ability in it.

Speaking of my father's ability, he seemed to be an Advanced rank practitioner in all three styles however he did not go anywhere near in depth about the ranks, simply telling me that he was near the peak.

I'll have to either ask Lilia or mother about it later.

While I'm at it I'll most likely end up asking them about magic since I know close to nothing about how it works despite having been studying it for over four months. In fact, I know more about swordsmanship than I do about magic after an hour of vague at best lessons from my father.

Since I began speaking things have become much easier as I no longer have to rediscover everything on my own and I can simply ask people more informed. My decision to speak may have been emotional but there are benefits it seems.

Learning the different styles of swordsmanship would most likely take me numerous months of examination but using the power of communication I had learned about it in the short timeframe of an hour.

I still have much to learn in terms of magic and I can only hope that my family can explain it to me since I know barely anything in the grand scheme of things. I don't even know if there is such a thing as elemental magic in this world though I am confident that there is.

"Young master, would you like to read a book upstairs?" Lilia offered from behind me, breaking me free from my spiraling train of thought. Reading might be good since it would get me away from my parents when they start getting too enthusiastic.

"Ok~." I agreed without hesitation when those horrors entered my mind, Lilia easily picking me up a moment later. Reading should help me ignore my mother's shouts of enjoyment at least slightly.

If magic can help me ensure I never hear those noises from my parents again I can only attempt to learn it faster. Creating a vacuum using wind magic, if it exists, should be a good way to remove the living nightmare.

It would be fine if they were even slightly quieter, my room was not next to theirs, and my senses hadn't been drastically increased but sadly that would never happen. I love my parents however their 'love' was a little too strong for me.

Regardless, I had things to do. First things first was to strengthen my father. Even if I somehow become the strongest person in the world I won't always be there to protect my parents and I don't allow what I cherish to be damaged.

Currently, my father believed himself to be strong enough and for all I know, he may as well be more than enough. However, even if he is near the peak of strength he isn't at the peak and that isn't acceptable.

Conveniently the solution is easy. My father is a man who enjoys bragging about his powers and achievements because of his pride. If I play to that pride, making him train would be incredibly easy.

Truthfully I would like to encourage my mother and Lilia to grow stronger as well however that wasn't necessary nor possible. Lilia seems to have been injured in the past if her limp was anything to go off and my mother will have her hands full with me and my future siblings that will surely come with how active my parents are.

My father is not already strong but he is also extraordinarily free. Rather than struggling to make time he would simply need to change a portion of his free time into time dedicated to training which was far from impossible.

Of course, rest time was necessary as not only mother but even I would be lonely if he wasn't here but I wasn't making his schedule to begin with, my role is simply to encourage him to train nothing more.

"What book would you like to read today young master?" Lilia asked while placing me in front of the bookshelf. In the past, she asked for formalities sake but with my display of intelligence, she has actually begun taking my opinion into consideration.

My ability to read was slightly lackluster as it wasn't as available to me as speech but I could read the titles of the books albeit slowly. Still, there was no need to think over my choice, I had long decided which book to read.

"This one." I spoke up in my difficult to understand baby voice, pointing at the book that we had been reading for the last few days. It was the tale of the Heroes of the time and their battle against the Demon God Laplace.

While I was interested in the Heroes as three of them created the three sword styles I was mainly interested in the Demon God as I recognize the name from the Laplace's Demon theorem from my previous world.

Not only that but I am curious why he attacked the humans in the first place. The book we are reading today even mentions that he was usually a gentle person so why would he want to kill all humans? It made little sense to me.

Of course, the book may be wrong in that he was once kind but even then I am curious of why he became the way he is. As a former monster myself I can confidently say that all villains have a reason they became the way they were.

A villain is simply a human failed by society.
