Chapter 46

“I woke up—” Daniel went on to tell him everything he could remember.

“So according to him, he’s been here on and off for a while. That could explain those feelings you’ve been having.”

Daniel nodded. “I think so. Damn, Griffin, what do I do? I refuseto sign the contract. I won’t let Ray bully me into turning the house over to him. But if that guy is as badass as he tried to make out.” He touched the bandage on his head.

“As far as you know, has Ray pulled something like this with anyone else?”

“I have no idea. He’d brag about the restaurants he was part of, but he never said how he got his hands on the buildings. But then he wouldn’t, would he?”

“Undoubtedly not. Wait here, I’m going to do some reconnaissance before we decide what to do.”

“I’m coming with you.”

“No. I know how to move through the woods without making a sound. Somehow, I doubt that you do.” Griffin smiled, patting Daniel’s knee.
