Chapter 63 Final Year Before Cannon
Karna looked at Mest Rider a comrade of the guild about to go for his future mission to act as a spy in the magic council. Since the threat of Alvarez had passed, the council had added a few more members in the main council as well as the magic knights making the purge that happened a few years ago useless and Makarov decided to plant one of the Fairy Tail member Mest as his magic deals with memories and infiltration.
Mest was chosen not only because of his magic but also because of the fact that to make sure Mest was able to use his powers to the full potential, the information about him was not known to other guilds or the council and he acted in secret taking quests that helped him increase his skills while not being in the spotlight.
"Well Mest my boy, do you understand the mission you are about to do" Makarov said while holding a cup of beer
"YES, master I do" Mest started to reply enthusiastically " Finally, the stage has been set to showcase my abilities master so I must do must to complete it to the at most perfection"
Makarov and Karna felt a bit tad overwhelmed with Mest's enthusiasm and Karna had a feeling about what he was going to say next.
"you know what master, I got the perfect idea, why don't I erase my own memories while implanting a suggestion in my mind to join the council and collect all the information I want. Since I am removing my memories myself, I would be able to infiltrate the council even better"
His answer left Makarov bewildered and Karna had an expression of resigning himself. Mest can be considered as a friend that he had in the guild and he had decided to remove his attraction to little girls by subtly giving him adult porn which he was able to successfully do without anyone's knowledge including Mest's and now Mest has attraction to mature woman which can be considered as an improvement.
"you know that's a bit too much right" Makarov said as he deadpanned
"Don't worry master, I will make sure that you get a key to unlock my memories and without the key, even I won't be able to unlock my memories as I have no idea they exists" Said Mest as he drew a pattern in Gramp's hand
"the pattern has the ability to send out a magic trigger that if it hits my emblem that is hidden and reveals it my memories will be revealed to me" Mest said and then he looked at me
"here you go Karna if master is unable to do this, I trust you to bring me back to the guild" Mest said as he put the mark on my hand too.
"well don't worry about it, if master one day forgets it due to over drinking, I will make sure that you come back" I replied
"hey I am still not that old you dumb brats" Shouted Makarov while Karna and Mest ran away
After saying goodbye to Mest, he saw Natsu going to another quest with Happy and they waved at each other. Karna knew that Natsu could have had the highest no of quests after him but Natsu only took quests that made him travel to places he had never been before just to find any clue about Igneel.
As he was walking, he got a signal from Layla Heartfilia due to a communicator they had exchanged in the last few years. There was a message written in it.
{my daughter wanted to join fairy tail independently even though we told her we can train her and then recommend her as well. But it seems like she was stubborn, and she ran away from the house with a letter in which it was written that she will become stronger by herself and join fairy tail by herself. When she comes to the guild, please make sure that she is safe}
Karna smiled a bit after reading it. It seemed like cannon had a way of working even in this world that he had changed so much. He looked at Natsu who was walking away and then he saw him talking to Lisanna and going off.
'man, seems like it would be complicated, thankfully I only have to worry about Cana' Karna thought but suddenly he felt something. He looked around but was not able to find anything.
'did I trigger a flag' Karna thought then he shaked his head to remove that thought from ghis mind and walked towards home.
As he walked away, he missed Ultear and Meredy entering the guild. Ultear had gone to the mission Karna told her about but reached their late as the entire town was destroyed and people killed. But she managed to save a few children one of which was really young in age. Seeing her, Ultear decided to adopt her as her sister and she was welcomed to the guild as a member of the family.
While they were getting in although Ultear did not notice Karna, Meredy did and she looked at Karna while having a bit pissed off expression.
