The lyrics she knew by heart died on Natalie's lips the second her eyes locked onto his face. His disheveled gray hair and the beard he had let grow made it clear that he hadn't been near a barber since the day she left him making him look like someone else entirely, but those dreamy eyes—those honey brown eyes that bewitched her and made her marry a total stranger within ten days of meeting him— they confirmed his identity in case she needed more evidence than the wedding ring that hung from a necklace around his neck.
He's really here. She gulped. No... I didn't travel this far just to make it easy for him to waltz in and talk to me.
The microphone slipped from her sweaty hand and hit the ground with an eardrum-piercing sound, causing people all around the pub to cover their ears. She turned around to see a confused-looking Luis.
"I'm sorry. He's here. I have to go!" she slurred incoherently as she fled toward the fitting room.
