A Child's Curiosity and the Book of Magic

280 AC

Month 15, Day 10

Jon Morningstar

About a year has passed since my birth. After witnessing the breathtaking and wondrous sights of the North, my concerns were somewhat alleviated, and I had to adapt my goals according to my circumstances. But what could be expected from a child? So, I decided to enjoy life to the fullest and embrace the changes that came my way. Childhood was not such a pleasant time; I had little control over my body, lacked energy, and often fell asleep quickly I didn't have control over my pee and poop. Oh, I really don't want to think about the embarrassments of that time.

The worst part was that I was idle! Idle! I think enduring the torment of a soul imprisoned in a child's body with nothing to do might be one of the most excruciating tortures. The only thing that perhaps kept me going and motivated was Lucifer's decision to bring seven exceptionally beautiful mature women from every seven realm of Westeros to be employed to feed me. Each day of the week, I had a taste of a different milk and you know what … and experienced intriguing variety. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a perverted, its just which sane man wouldn't explore and conduct research with such an opportunity, right? Well, I didn't know anyone, so it didn't matter.

I once heard Lucifer joke that when I turned fourteen (According to the calendar I defined, John should be like a twenty-year-old on Earth when he turns ten. However, the aging process in their world is twice as fast as ours, and they reach maturity at the age of twelve, They also live twice as long, and at the age of twelve, while having the body of a sixteen-year-old, they will have the mindset of a twelve-year-old boy but their physical and bodily aging slows down from the age of twelve.), he would invite the most beautiful woman from each free city of Essos and every realm of Westeros to teach me about different cultures. Why would he say such a thing to a child? Not that I was drawn to his words, no... I was merely curious to learn about different cultures. Anyway, I heard Lucifer say that knowledge is a weapon...thus I have to try to learn it.

Infancy passed, and I could move around now. With curiosity, I searched every corner of the castle. When I got tired, I'd ask my servant to help me complete my exploration. This quest led me here, to a room that immediately captivated me. As I entered, I saw no one behind me, and my attention was drawn to the room filled with various animal heads that Lucifer or his father must have hunted. Some were familiar to me, while others were not, but they all shared one common trait: grandeur and terror. My eyes then caught a glimpse of a bookshelf, and for some reason, I was drawn towards it. In my previous life, I wasn't much of a scholar and had little interest in reading; playing with Robb was more enjoyable.

I opened a book from the bottom shelf and read its title: "Magic for Beginners!" by Darius Morningstar. Magic? Does magic truly exist? Everything I heard about magic involved sacrifices and dark rituals. But what if Lucifer were a magician? I didn't want to dwell on that thought; it's better to read what's inside.

"Magic is the energy that permeates the world, granting life to everything. Magic exists everywhere, in the evergreen trees, the sand, the sea, and even in humans and animals. However, the presence of magic doesn't necessarily mean we can harness its power. The ability to use magic means tampering with the natural order and laws. But for those who possess the aptitude to wield it, this principle doesn't hold. Those gifted must know that their talent is an inheritance from nature itself.

"We have different types of magic: white and black magic. White magic encompasses spells of using the elements, healing, divination, and more. Black magic involves curses, mind control, torture, and so on."

"Some magic requires sacrifices, and animals can be used since the human body lacks the affinity to harness that energy. But we must never sacrifice a being with the gift of thought and choice, like humans. Nature has bestowed these two gifts solely to humanity, and a sacrificial act upon a human would enrage nature and taint our existence and soul. After death, nature will devour us and leave nothing behind. For instance, the Valyrian Empire fell after thousands of years of collecting negative energy directly from humans and engaging in human practices. All that remains is a forbidden place with an extremely high concentration of negative energy, which will never vanish over time, but it will eventually return to nature.

"Another example is Westeros, where an astonishing magical aptitude has disappeared, and the flow of magic is very weak. Even the most talented sorcerers lose their connection to magic upon entering this continent, and in some cases, it leads to their demise. Magic is the energy of nature and life essence. This scarcity of magic has also led to the extinction of dragons in the Targaryen family. Dragons are a tremendous source of magical energy, and they grant their riders this aptitude or enhance it. But with the death of many dragons during the Dance of the Dragons, there were fewer dragons left to resist Westeros' great demand for the restoration of magic, and their magic was absorbed by nature and disappeared. Now, why is magic in Westeros so weak? I have three theories: the loss of Heart Trees, which were a network purifying magical energy and aiding in magic production... Two, human disbelief in magic, denying their own nature... And the third is the Wall in the North, which absorbs a great deal of magic to stand against the dark magic of Westeros."

Upon reading this part, Jon became excited, as it seemed to relate to Night King and dark magic.

"Dark magic can cause a significant absence of life and an abundance of death beyond the Wall. History speaks of other instances like the Night King's attack and the wights, where they are consumers of white magic and eradicate life. It is predicted that with time and magic returning to Westeros, we will witness movements from the North of the Wall."

Jon couldn't agree more with the book's content, and he found himself lost in his memories. However, he quickly resumed reading.

"Among the houses with magical aptitude in Westeros are Martell, Targaryen, and Stark. Other houses have lost their heritage and way of thinking, thus losing their abilities and talents."

"This book is written for those who possess magical talent, and to form a magical heart, one must perform necessary exercises to begin the journey of creating the 'Magical Heart.' This technique is developed by the Morningstar family and greatly aids in using magic and unlocking human potential."

As Jon read the book, he immersed himself in deep contemplation. "So, in the first stage, I must align my thoughts and embrace nature. In the second stage, I have to connect with it, feel its beauty and wonder. Then, in the third stage, I need to witness the marvels within my own body. These initial stages are the preparation of the mind, and afterward, I can sense magic and discover it within myself. Next, I will attempt to gather it in my heart and spread its energy throughout my body."

Jon became more engrossed in the reading, unaware of someone entering the room and observing him.

"Jon, what are you reading?"

As Jon got lost in his thoughts, he suddenly jumped when he noticed Lucifer's smile. Feeling a bit frightened, he pretended to fall asleep, using his weariness as a cover. Lucifer, amused by Jon's reaction, lifted him gently and placed the book back in its place. Carrying Jon to his room, he laid him down on his small bed.

Lucifer observed Jon's face and shook his head, murmuring to himself, "Time will unveil all mysteries, and I am here to witness it all."
