Chapter 6 Blood Brothers

While Marcus, Patxi, and Vera ran for the back door the ten warriors started to flank them on both sides. Seeing that there was no other choice, Marcus took a fighting stance as the warriors circled around them.

"Yo Damien. I don't think we're escaping without a fight."

"It looks that way my friend." I replied, while taking a fighting stance of my own.

I pull my two chakrams out that were placed on my thighs and imbued them with laws of wind and lightning. The two forces flowed in harmony around the circular shape of my chakrams. I then looked at Konrad, anxiously awaiting his next move.

With a smile Konrad said. "How cute." He then proceeded to emit black flames that surrounded his entire body. The flames had small traces of blue that appeared to bend to the will of the black ones.

"The flames of creation." I said, with a mixture of fear and confusion in my voice.

The flames of creation were ranked among the most dangerous abilities in all of Hell, and not just for the person on the receiving end, but the wielder as well. If handled improperly they could leave the wielder with horrible deformities, and perhaps even lead to their death.

"Very good little brother, A small gift from my father for being his only son left." Konrad said in an attempt to anger me, which he succeeded in.

I hurled one of my chakrams at his head without any reluctance. Lightning crackled in the air as the wind increased its speed forming visible wind blades around it.

I watched as Konrad created a shield with the flames of creation in hopes of blocking my attack, not wanting to give him any room to breathe I let the other one fly from my hand. My chakrams hit the flaming shield with overwhelming force, and Konrad had no choice but to take a few steps back. However the end result was my chakrams sub coming to the flames, turning them into a liquid metal.

I loud laugh escaped Konrad's mouth followed by him saying.

"I'm sorry Damien, I believe I broke your little toys, maybe you should ask your pet blacksmith to make you some new ones."

"Maybe if you spent less time talking, you would have noticed what I summoned behind you." I replied, with an attempt to distract him.

The second he looked back, I took off in a full sprint towards him, while pulling my hook swords from my back. I leaped into the air to lodge my swords in his neck, but he vanished before my eyes. My swords continued in the downward motion accomplishing nothing besides slicing through the remnants of his black flame.

I turned around to search for him only to find his burning hand tearing through my abdomen. I could feel myself being cooked alive from the inside. The pain I felt was excruciating, forcing me to drop my swords on the ground and scream in anguish.

Blood started gushing out of my mouth and my eyes began to turn bloodshot. As if to add insult to injury Konrad yanked his hand out and then kicked me in my chest, knocking me on the ground.

"How frustrating baby brother, I expected more from you."

Konrad said sarcastically, as he placed the heel of his boot to my throat and begin twisting it back and forward.

The pain was intolerable, but I couldn't do anything to stop it. I grabbed his foot in an attempt to pry it away, but my efforts unfruitful.

Then, as if a gift from the Faiths, an idea crossed my mind. Remembering the dagger strapped the small of my back, I held his leg so he couldn't pull it away. I unsheathed my dagger and sliced his Achilles tendon. Konrad fell on the ground next to me and released a loud roar, almost similar to a dying animal. Not wanting to miss this golden opportunity, I crawled my bleeding body towards Konrad, and pulled myself onto him.

I looked into Konrad's eyes and smiled revealing my bloody teeth.

"I guess father won't have any son's after today."

I said, as I gripped my dagger with both hands ready to plunge it into his chest. To my surprise though, it wasn't Knorad's blood that sprayed through the air, but my own. Before my dagger made contact, a knee collided with my face, resulting in my body falling limp on the ground yet again.

Through the stars in my vision, I was able to make out one of the warriors that Konrad dragged along. The warrior started to form a trident-like spear out of ice to finish me off. My body was in a pitiful state and I didn't have the energy to resist his attack. I could only close my eyes and accept my faith.

"Is this really the end?" I thought to myself.

After brief moment I felt a warm liquid splash on my face followed by a familiar, yet annoying voice.

"Get up Damien, now is not the time to be taking a nap."

I opened my eyes to see a blood-covered, claw-like hand waiting for me to grab it. I took the hand and struggled to my feet while wrapping my arm around the back of his neck for support.

"Thanks Marcus." I said.

"We need to go." He said, ignoring my gratitude.

"Marcus, my weapons." I said.

"Do you want your weapons or your life?" He asked as he dragged me towards the teleportation pad.

I looked to my right, seeing Vera's tear-soaked eyes. I could tell she was barely holding herself together. It was a dead giveaway that something dreadful had happened, and it didn't take a genius to figure out what it was.

I looked back to see four of the warriors following closely behind us and in the distance I could see Patxi's corpse lying on the ground next to six other bodies.

"Don't let them get away!" Konrad yelled, while dragging himself across the ground in a pathetic effort to catch us.
