Saving Grace

After she was satisfied with her cursory examination of Maxixe's body, Old Alma did mention that when she returned.

It would be to escort Kaoma to the bathing house after all the preparations were done.

When Old Alma left the chamber after handing over a platter of food to Maxixe for Kaoma's growling stomach, all conversation in the room ceased.

Annoyed by the growing silence, Maxixe set the platter of the food down on the bed close to where Kaoma sat on the edge of the bed.

Kaoma just held down her pale blonde hair like a blanket over her face as she looked neither to the left nor to the right while they talked over her.

"I don't want you falling down again like you did this morning," he remarked.

She waited patiently until he moved away from the tray of food before she reached to take a bowl of stew off it.
