THE SPELL OF A MAGE

In this world, the UIR has a lot of uses. One of its wonderful uses is the ability to connect to the World Network. And in the World Network, there are a lot of great and cool things a person could go to.

One of these great places is the Seeker Market that sells almost everything anyone could imagine. Even though it is mostly unusable for most people because it was designed for seekers, its market still sells the basics of the basic equipment and items.

Sadly, there are no weapons here but there are spell books and martial arts anyone buys. I browse through them and after a while, I found two books regarding Fire Spells.

= "Igni: a tier-0 fire spell that lets mages form a ball of fire and throw it to an enemy. The ball of flame can be enlarged to 90 inches. Casts time ranges from 10 to 3 seconds depending on the Mage's talents. Price: 400,000 credits." =

= "Flera Surprentine: a tier-0 fire spell a spell that depends on the Mage's ability to imagine a serpent and control fire. Its combat ability is limited at first, but this spell can be trained into a tier-3 spell and even tier-4 spell. Casts time ranges from 30 seconds to 10 seconds depending on the mage's talent. Price: 200,000 credits." =

The price of a spell had always been high, and I am aware of that. Depending on its usefulness and popularity a spell's price varies. The two fire spell in front of me is proof of that.

Igni and the Flera Surprentine are both spells that are in the tier-0 class. Every spell have their tiers and each tier aligns with the rank of one's comprehension not the rank of their Mana Core.

Unlike Martials where they depend on their Mana Core to determine if their strength goes up. The evaluation of a Mage is much more complicated.

A Mage like myself has to be evaluated in the tier of the spell we can cast, our casting time, and the rank of our Mana Cores.

Let us start with Mana Cores, the Mana Cores correlates with the strength of a spell and the tier a Mage could cast without experiencing any backlash. Coincidentally, a copper rank Mana Manipulator (Mage) has a limitation of tier-0 spells.

Go over those limitations and that Mage will experience a backlash that will cost a Mage to enter a weakened state at the brightest of situations or die by having their Mage Channels erupt and their veins following soon after.

Secondly, casting time depends on two main things. The comprehension of the spell or how fast you can construct a spell in your mind and how fast your Mage Channels can absorb and transform mana from the world or more importantly the origin worlds into spells.

Casting time is something that happens inside the Mana Core where the elements are housed as that is the place where the spell is formed. After the spell is formed, it will be then sent to a medium where it could be sent out after the incantation is uttered.

There are people who can materialize their spells without uttering an incantation, these methods were called wordless spells. But the requirement for wordless spells is strict and advance so I don't really have to think about them for now.

Lastly the tier of spells which is the most important one because the tier of a spell depends on the two earlier topics. The tier of spells is as follows, from tier-0 to tier-3 they are mostly Apprentice Spells and each tier a spell increases in power.

If a tier-0 spell Igni can kill a human, then a tier-1 spell Fleronte can kill ten humans. A single jump in tier is also a significant boost in terms of speed and strength. But increasing the tier a Mage can wield is extremely troublesome and hard, after all, the higher the tier a spell gets. The harder and more complicated the sequence of patterns a Mage must process.

There are more variables a person must learn in order to become a powerful and successful Mage but this is just the basics. I have not even mention of Magic Circles and tier-4 spells, because, huu, from the descriptions of the books a tier-4 spell is something that only gifted Mage can accomplish in doing.

Going back in tract as to what I truly wanted to pay attention to. The buying of spells takes a lot of consideration, but in the end, I went to the pricier Igni that has a price tag of 400,000 credits and I also bought a wand for 100,000 credits.

The wand I bought was a copper-rank wand. The items of Seekers are ranked similarly to how Mana Cores are ranked. From copper to silver, to gold, to platinum, and so on and so forth.

The best I could buy now was a copper-rank wand that is made from a Mana Gem that is found in mostly mine. I ordered the two items and was given the time to wait for five hours before my items arrive.

I mean, the Seeker Union building is just a few minutes' walks away from the orphanage so the package should arrive sooner or later. I noticed that the moment I ordered the two items for 500,000 credits were deducted from my balance, I was a little disappointed at the number I just spent, but the items were said to be on the way so I felt better.

Night fell and while I was in the library, I was called by Sol and she handed me over the parcel that I have ordered. It was covered in paper so I had to rip it apart.

As I reached the library, I ripped the paper and there it was. A thin red book that had Igni written on its cover. The wand was also there, it was as long but not as wide as an adult's forearm and the blue gem on top of it was also good.

The wand was thick near the gem by gradually thinned at the end to the point that it was pointy.

I kept the wand inside my UIR and then I opened the book. I read the spellbook and as I began reading, I finished the whole thing without problems.

For the longest time, one of my best abilities was my ability to remember everything that I have read once.

Following the direction of the book, I began feeling out the mana of the world before entering the Fire Origin World where the tiny particles of the fire attribute reside.

I could still only feel out and observe bits of fire attribute mana but according to other sources, the world should look like a grand sea once I become more attuned to an element.

As my world began to change color, it should be time to collect fire mana with my Mage Channels and then into my Mana Core.

The more Mage Channels I have, the faster the process would be. There are nine Mage Channels in the body of a talented Mage it usually takes 4 to 3 seconds for them to absorb enough mana for the spell to be fully formed...

But I have twelve Mage Channels and for the longest times I thought it was nothing but an excess thing but as I revel at the single second moment that I needed in order to fill the amount of mana I needed I finally knew how strong and wrong this twelve Mage Channels were.

Aside from that, the moment the fire mana was filled, I merely needed to form the spell that I have already read through and then with but a thought, the mana that gathered inside my Mana Core began to churn.

I opened my eyes as I dispersed the mana inside. I smiled as I uttered, = "I wish I can try this out in a real enemy soon." =

Little did I know that my wish was going to come to fruition in a way that I didn't like.
