"Alright then, off you go. Let's see if that ancient human tech of yours is really all it's hyped up to be, shall we? Heh."
"A childish provocation, however, I shall get it done in under five hours."
"Oh, Oh! Impressive." My astonished voice dripped with sarcasm.
"No rush man. I'm entirely aware it'll be a riveting display of the outdated brilliance. Chuckle... Chuckle..."
"..."
I feel Like I saw some smoke rising from luxion, but surely that is my imagination?
As I tried to bully him further, though, he slipped away, blending into the surroundings like a chameleon.
"Pfft! Ha ha ha ha," I chuckled for a moment.
"Well then," I muttered, rising from my seat with a groan and stepping out of the stuffy room.
I approached a random officer, who looked somewhat disinterested, and asked for directions to the exit.
As I made my way out of the building, I caught snippets of conversations—apparently, the ladies had already been escorted to the school while I had been stuck in that claustrophobic cage for two hours.
Stepping outside, I noticed the sky had already turned a deep, somber shade of night.
I sighed, feeling the fatigue of the day in its entirety.
"Should I just ask to stay here for the night?" I wondered aloud. "I feel it'd be more comfortable than walking home. Sigh..."
Just as I was contemplating the idea of staying over, well... Not really.
A familiar, old creaky voice called out to me from the side.
"Hey, you're finally out boy."
I turned to see Lieutenant... Lieutenant... Something, the middle aged Captain of the knight order.
He was one of the more approachable officers I had encountered during this bizarre day.
His uniform was crisp, and his demeanor was sharp, but there was a hint of warmth in his gaze.
"Lieutenant... Old Man. To what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked, trying to mask my weariness with a poker face.
"I like that face of yours boy." He chuckled like a neighbourhood granpa.
"As for your question, I was just about to head home myself and thought you might need a lift," he said, tilting his head slightly.
"You look like you could use a break."
I didn't need much convincing. "That would be great, actually. Thanks."
As we walked towards his vehicle, the cool night air did little to alleviate the exhaustion seeping into my bones. The guy seemed to notice.
"Tough day, ay?" he remarked, stepping into the carriage.
"Yeah, you could say that," I replied, sliding in beside him. "Waiting an hour for the officers to ask me the same questions I already answered was quite frustrating actually."
By the way, this world gets weirder the more I think about it.
Flying ships, flying bikes, Giant Robots and magic? Those are totally normal.
But cars, Mobile Phones, TV etc. Those are a no-go. It's like technology took a really strange turn somewhere along the way.
"And I heard they escorted the ladies back long before they even got around to questioning me," I continued, a hint of displeasure in my calm voice.
The lieutenant nodded as we began our journey back to the school.
"Yeah, they were escorted back as soon as we got the clerance." I didn't respond after that.
It took us about forty minutes to get from the knights' headquarters to the school.
The drive was quiet for the most part, a soothing contrast to the chaos of the day.
As we neared the school, I asked to be dropped off a bit further away to avoid drawing any unwelcome attention.
To my surprise, we were much closer than I had anticipated.
I guess I had overestimated the distance, likely a result of my exhaustion.
"Thanks for the ride, Lieutenant. Umm... where's your residence again?" I asked as I stepped out.
He pointed in the opposite direction. "Oh, it's over there."
"..."
"I remember you mentioning you'd drop me off on your way home?"
"Yes, I did, didn't I? I didn't mention where my residence was, though. hahaha... Anyway, get some rest," smiling like a gentle old man he closed the door.
I nodded, bid him goodbye, and watched as he moved away.
Then, I headed towards my dorm room, feeling the weight of the day finally start to lift.
On my way to the dorm, however, I encountered a girl who would surprise anyone if they were told she was the protagonist of the original otome game.
