Chapter 41: Why?

Rose and I make our way to Timoteo's office to report our mission. When we arrive I immediately go in and start talking.

"Oldy, This is a serious matter. Multiple people if not all in Phynx are strong and definitely with some training they can become an incredibly monstrous threat. I suggest you contact them now to form an alliance because I believe if we wait they might decide to overthrow the top position" I stated seriously

Timoteo seemed shocked at what I said right when I walked in. Rose is glancing at me in concern.

"Alex, is there a reason why you're so serious about this. Knowing your strength you can most likely easily defeat them if need be" He said calmly

"Yes, I know I can defeat them, but I have a really bad feeling" I say kind of confused

'I don't know what it is, but I have a feeling something bad is going to happen soon' I thought glancing at Rose

"Hm, my HI is giving me a bad feeling but I didn't think too much into it. I guess I could contact them for a meeting" Timoteo takes my words more seriously with his Intuition

"I'll set up a meeting for tonight. Come back here around 6 and we can talk with them, dismissed" Timoteo says

I nod and walk out with Rose following behind me. For the whole walk Rose stays silent till we turn the corner to my street.

"Why'd you look at me when you were talking to boss" She comments offhandedly

"No reason" I say

'No matter how unnerved I am this is just a TV show world. I'm sure everything will turn out alright in the end' I think naively

Rose knows I'm lying but doesn't comment and we walk inside the cafe.

"Mommy!" Fate shouts and jumps into my arms

"Hello darling. How are you" I smile down at her

"Nothing. Uncle Demetri was just playing hide-and-seek with me" She smiles happily

'Yeah~playing. He's probably trying to get away from her' I think smirking

"What no hug for me" Rose pouts

Fate turns towards her and squeals

"Aunty" She latches onto Rose's midsection

"Haha aren't you just a little munchkin" Rose pokes Fate's nose

Fate chuckles and runs away with Rose chasing after her

I hum and follow their movements with soft eyes

'Yep, everything going to me just "fine" 'I think

Timeskip

When Rose and I enter the meeting room Phynx is sitting on an opposite sofa from Timoteo and Iemitsu.

"Oh, Alex,Rose come sit down" He motions next to him

We sit and look at the members of Phynx. They all seem more relaxed from yesterday, and their composers have changed drastically.

'How can they all change so much in a day' I think warily and glance at Rose who has sensed it too

"Hello, nice to see you again" Poppy enthusiastically says

"Hello, sorry about yesterday" I say with false sincerity that none of them catch

"Its fine, right Leo~" She directs the conversation to Leo

"Yes, it's completely alright. I understand the circumstances" Leo says professionally

I narrow my eyes at that. He automatically listened to Poppy.

'Is she the real leader. I know shes not what she seems, but I guess she's more dangerous than what I previously thought' I think trying to figure poppy out

"Thank you for your understanding. Now let's get down to business" Timoteo and the rest start talking but I don't pay attention, and zone out

'I have seen a lot of anime where they have characters that have a double personality. When I looked closer I could see the slight bloodlust hidden beneath her eyes. Does she want to kill Timoteo now, but she would be killed. Does she know that. Of course she's smarter than that. Then what does she want. Will she kill him even if it means her life. Why would she go that far if she has a personal grudge. I mean it does make sense Timoteo has killed a lot and she could be a family member of someone he's killed. Or does she just want the pleasure of killing the top mafia. There are so many possibilities' I think staring at her intently

"Hm" She seems to sense my gaze and looks in my direction. She just smiles and waves before glancing at Rose and then turning back to Timoteo

'What the! Does Rose have a part in this. I do get the bad feeling when I'm with Rose. Is Poppy planning on killing Rose for some reason! I need to be on alert, I get a feeling that Phynx didn't come here for a peace offering' I think relaxing trying to look unaware of their plan

I was too into thought that I didn't notice Rose looking at me and at Poppy. She seemed to have realized why I was so concerned for her.

"So do we have a deal" Timoteo finishes

"Hm" Poppy contemplates and I can see Leo and the rest waiting for her decision

"Yeah no" she says with a smile

Everyone became alert when Raven took out a knife and killed a subordinate behind Timoteo. No one says anything because this is common in the mafia. Timoteo and Iemitsu retreat out of the room while ten people excluding me and Rose stay to kill off the Phynx.

"I guess I was right. You were the leader" I said to poppy

"Yep! As expected of Cielo" She said with a sly grin

Her and I stared off while the others fought with each other. The ten people with us were killed immediately with their heads cut clean off. It was Rider who did it because of his speed; he completed the job in one swift movement.

"I gotta say you surprised me. How did you guys get so strong in a day" I say calmly trying to get information.

I keep my cool because i know Rose can handle the rest, she might get a little injured but she'll somehow power through. That's the mystery of a Tv show world.

Rose P.O.V.

While Alex was talking with Poppy I was confronted with the other four

"So, who wants to go first" I smirk bashing my fists together

They don't talk and dash right at me. I dodge a punch from leo and swipe underneath his feet catching him off guard. He falls on the ground and rolls out of the way of my foot.

"Aww~ is the baby having a tough time" I tease him

'It's a good thing they don't have a lot of battle experience. Cause a combo with their power and skill will definitely beat me' I think watching them with narrowed eyes

I run at them and unsheathe my katana and slash at Raven.

'I need to take her out first. Dodging weapons while fighting will be more difficult' I think while I continue to strike at her

She tries to dodge all of the slashs but can't with all of them. She has plenty of scratches littering her entire body.

"Need some help" I ask her with fake concern

"No, just die already" She snarls at me and tries to stab me with a knife

I put my hand out and the knife goes through it. I don't wince and jump to dodge a kick aimed for my leg from Ben. I tighten my hand around the knife and pull it forward dragging Raven along with it. She seems slightly put off with my bleeding hand giving me a chance to slice her throat and she falls to the ground.

"Raven!" Ben calls out and glares angrily at me

'Yes, come at me with rage' I think happily and lick my lips hungrily

He charges at me with Rider and Leo at his side. Ben tries to punch my face but I grab his first and throw him behind me. I grab Riders kick to my side with my other hand and twist it. He falls to the ground with a twist. Then Leo steps to the right and is about to punch my face but changes to the last second to kick me in the gut. I easily catch his foot though.

'Alex was right. He is a strategist, but he still needs to learn how to implant it into a real fight' I think while pulling his leg towards me and stabbed my katana into his eye

"Arg!" He cries out clutching his eye

I didn't give him a chance to do anything and pushed my sword through his heart. He falls forward lifelessly.

I look behind me and see Ben and Rider getting up while supporting each other.

'Only two left' I thought and am about to turn around

'Huh?' I thought

I look down and see a sword through my stomach.

'Why is there a sword there' I thought absentmindedly

With shaky hands I grab the front but am immediately assaulted with pain. I fall to my knees and start to feel warm but also cold. I cough up some blood and drop my hands from the sword.

'*chuckle* I guess I was stabbed' I thought bitterly

I start to feel light headed and fall forward with my sight towards Alex and Poppy. Poppy has her arm extended in my direction but is still facing Alex who has a shocked expression on.

'Am I going to die' I think dully

I start feeling light and my eyes start to close. Alex's shouts are faded in the background. My breathing becomes ragged and I feel someone touch my pulse before I take my last breath.

'Bye Alex' I think

Alex's P.O.V Earlier

I see Rose engage in the fight with the others and already killed Raven.

"You know I just love seeing people in pain" Poppy says cheerfully

"Um, okay I guess" I say a little uncomfortable

"But what's best is seeing the horror on someones face when they see a friend in pain" she giggles manically

"Wait" i mumble thinking

'Is that why I had had a bad feel-' My thoughts were cut off when I see Poppy throw something

*splat*

I whip my head around fast and what I see is horrible

"ROSE!" I shout but she doesn't answer and falls to the ground

"hahahaHAHAHAHAHA!" Poppy laughs crazily

I glare at her and grab her neck and snap it. I drop her and she falls to the ground in a heap.

I rush over to Rose and check her pulse and feel a low beat before it becomes still.

"Nononononono'' I ramble, "You can't die! This is a fictional world your supposed to magically survive" I cry hysterically shaking her back and forth but she remains still

I cry silently and cradle her in my arms rocking back and forth

"Please come back, please." I whisper

I hear a sound and see Ben and Rider making their way to Poppy's dead body. I stare blankly at them and stand up. I walk to them and disappear from their sight. I reappear grabbing their throats, they struggle in my grip and try to kick me, but I remain still. After a while they stop their actions and their arms drop. I keep my grip on them a minute more before dropping them. I don't even glance at them and make my way back towards Rose's body.

I drop on my knees and bring her on my lap while holding her head against my chest.

"I did this" I say to myself

'I believed that she could make it out at least alive just because this world has magic! I'm so fucking stupid! This is reality now!' I thought dead
