Was fate actually playing a role in bringing these two people with different stories and mysteries together? **** EXCERPT "It means you're not remorseful." Her mind started to work in strange angles as a smirk graced her face. "Olivia..." Reginald spoke in a tired voice. This was not what he wanted from the beginning. He wanted them to solve things and now they were heading back to square one. "Don't mention my name in that manner." She slammed her eyes shut for a second before opening them. This was because she started to feel confused. "Olivia!" Reginald called out again, this time with great force that said he wanted her to focus on what they were talking about. "Please don't —" "Tell me what I did." "You're in love with another woman! I caught you hugging her in that room, Reginald!"

Goodnight

Olivia did not know why she cried before him. It was an embarrassing moment for her, and besides he was right. She was going to spend her life alone. Reginald saying it only made her weak and coming to understand her marriage was a facade.

Shutting the door close and locking it, she headed straight to her canopy bed and dived into it. Anyone who saw that scene would probably have their mouth hanging open because they didn't think it was a lady-like action.

Olivia inhaled after shutting her eyes close as she tried her best to calm her raging nerves.

"Serves her right." Zain scoffed as he stared at the wooden mug filled with alcoholic wine. The blaring sounds coming from a carved horn served as a background music to lift up the mood in the tavern.

Influential sons of dukes and nobles were seen flirting with ladies who walked at the tavern. Some of them had the women sitting on their lap, making them feed them what they ordered.

Some meters away were a flock of women dressed in gowns that had corsets attached to showcase their endowment. They moved sensually while sending a gaze to Reginald and Zain's direction.

The men did not seem to be interested in them. They were focused on talking about Reginald's words to the Princess.

Reginald shot a warning look to Zain. It made the redhead swallow in some air, before lifting his mug of wine to his lips and downing it all at once.

"Don't give me that look. She kept attacking and accusing you of being with Madeline." Zain spoke, his expression turning sour at the mentioning of Madeline's name.

Reginald was silent. He thought of when and where his wife saw Madeline with him. Even Madeline, she wouldn't just disappear like that after causing a ruckus in the Hayes' mansion.

Reginald was sure she might likely return again, just to cause another scene. Madeline was a shameless woman without any conscience. She was dangerous.

'That scheming vixen...' he face-palmed inwardly. There was something Madeline said to Olivia, and he wanted to find out about it... quickly.

She felt a movement on her bed and her gray eyes gleamed in the dark. Her hands resting on her pillow crawled to bury itself in the covers. Olivia felt the cool handle of her dagger and her fingers tightened on it.

There was a dangerous blaze in her eyes as her body moved due to instinct. She pounced on the person and straddled his belly before raising her knife to the air.

"What the..." The man managed to speak up before he got stabbed on the spot.

Hearing his voice made her eyes darkened. She recalled the words he said to her during lunch and it left a bitter taste at the back of her mouth.

"Who gave you permission to come into my room?" Her voice sounded husky because her sleep got interrupted. Infact, she seemed grumpy as this was the first time she slept without having to cry in her sleep.

"First of all, do you want to make a baby so desperately?" Reginald answered her question with a question. His dark eyes glittered with playfulness as he watched the woman seated on him frown.

'Do I look like someone who wants a child? I could...' she stopped overthinking because she knew it might not end in a good line. But she also didn't understand why he said those words.

"I wouldn't like to make a baby with you." She snapped at him, her voice turning harsh at the end of her sentence.

Reginald chuckled in a carefree voice before his hands went to her other hand that laid by her side.

"Then get off me." His hand caressed her hand, but she slapped it away.

Olivia got off him and looked around in her dark room. There was nothing that illuminated it, and the darkness seemed to be a little comforting for her.

'Why did he come here? Perhaps he didn't get what he wanted from...' she trailed in her thoughts, before pushing it off her mind.

Questions started to pop in her head and she raised a brow. How did he get in? No matter how deep she was in her nightmarish sleep, she would hear when her door got opened.

How did he manage to come in without making a noise?

Reginald looked at the direction he thought she was in because that was where he felt her presence. He thought this might be his chance to apologize to her.

"I'm sorry." His deep voice mixed with the darkness made her eyes droop with sleepiness. But she stiffened her muscles, staring at where she thought was his eyes.

"You don't need to apologize. I just want you to get out of this room." Her voice was silent yet it depicted her uneasiness of him being there with her.

Reginald never listened to her words, instead he kept spouting out words that he held in his heart.

"I'm sorry for all the things I've done knowingly... and in oblivion. I don't want to ever misunderstand you. You don't seem like the kind of person that is so vile..." he slurred, making Olivia roll her eyes.

She was tired of hearing his voice because it gave her comfort with the darkness. Besides, she didn't think Reginald was in his right senses. Olivia sensed the faint smell of wine on him, and she assumed he was speaking due to intoxication.

What she never knew was words of a drunk man stems out from what he's been breeding from his heart.

'You must be saying this to have me like you had her. No way...' she convinced herself with those words in her head. Thereafter, she never replied to his words.

"Apologies accepted. Please leave my bed, right now." Her voice was stern and she wanted to make a move but her hand was grabbed.

She fell into his embrace, and her head fell on his hard, chiseled chest. The subtle pounding of his heart were like warm melodies that invited her to lalaland.

His scent wafted into her nostrils. The cool masculine smell he always had, mixed with the smell of wine. His signature cologne invaded her sense of smell and sight, making her feel so sleepy.

"Goodnight, My Princess..." She felt the vibration of his voice rise from the deepest part in his chest, and she couldn't think further. Sleep came to adopt her.
