Avery looked at Kai and sipped her bottle of water again. ''Prosecutor Oak, what can I do for you?'' Avery asked.
''I am the Prosecutor in charge of the club assault case.'' Kai said as he looked at Avery. She was just the type of woman he hated the most. Women who were corrupt, and would do anything for money. It was a shame such kind of person was gifted with a pretty and innocent face. She could fool anyone with such eyes.
''I know!'' Avery interrupted him and sat up. 'Prosecutor Oak, what do you want from me?'' Avery could see the disgust in his eyes. She could tell the man in front of her hated her so she didn't want to waste time exchanging pleasantries with such kind of person.
''I was informed of your visit to the victim which caused her to get a relapse. As the lead Prosecutor in charge, I am here to tell you not to visit the patient anymore since it will interrupt with her treatment and case. The court hearing is just around the corner, whatever the defendant wants to relay to the victim can be done at the court of law.'' Kai spoke as he opened his bag to remove some papers. He placed them in front of Avery.
''This is a restraining order I obtained. Unless under serious situation, you are supposed to stay away from the victim and have no contact with her until the hearing.'' Kai looked up to meet with Avery's gaze after speaking.
Avery smirked and looked at the papers. She placed them back and said to Oak. 'Prosecutor Oak, since when did the prosecutors' office interfere in the work of the police service? We are each doing our individual work, so what right do you have to bring me a restraining order? You want me to stay away from the victim? I think that Prosecutor Oak has such an ideal perspective of the law, so you feel that everything can be achieved by presenting a stack of papers but…''
''But?'' Kai looked at Avery keenly.
''But, you know what Prosecutor Oak? Life isn't lived by such ideals. At the end of the day, reality would prove to you that living with such ideals are just useless. You must see me as someone who is doing this for her own good but let me tell you this. I am a woman and I understand how Miss Lizzy is feeling. At the end of the day, the offender is just going to spend a few months to a year in prison and the victim will go home with nothing.''
''I am going to make sure that the man who harmed her gets the deserved punishment.''
''Really? Then, what will happen next? Nothing!'' Avery said indifferently.
''Are you saying this base on experience or just because you want a promotion and a heavy cheque at the end of the day?'' Kai asked and Avery smirked.
''If I can get those things then, that will be absolutely great. After all, I will be getting rewards for my work. Prosecutor Oak, by tomorrow morning, the victim will call to dismiss the case.'' Avery looked at her time and added, 'that should be around 20:00 by tomorrow.'' Avery said confidently.
''What?''
''This case… will not go anywhere so I suggest you put it to rest already. I still have something to do, so excuse me…'' Avery stood up and Kai held her hand.
''Stop!'' He said and stood up, towering over Avery.
''What is it, Prosecutor Oak? Do you still have something to say?'' Avery turned to look at him.
''30 Hours… that will be the 30th hour.'' Kai said with an interesting smirk.
''I know, so Prosecutor Oak. You have exactly 30 hours until you say goodbye to this case.''
''What if she doesn't drop the charges by then?'' Kai asked.
''She will.'' Avery said with a determined gaze. 'Excuse me!''
''Wait!''
''What is it, Prosecutor Oak? Don't tell me you've fallen for me and can't bear to let me go?'' Avery said sarcastically.
''You flatter yourself, Detective Sandas. There is something else we need to talk about…'' Kai removed his phone and played the video for Avery.
Avery cussed. ''Darn it! Who the hell is this bitch trying to ruin my life?'' She asked, looking at Kai.
''I thought you know her?''
''I know her? I don't know such a crazy person. What? Are you going to say that I connived with her to rob the higher-ups and then blackmail them? What about you? What kind of relationship do you have with her?''
''I have no relationship with her, but I did meet her this morning.'' Kai said firmly.
''That makes the two of us then, because I definitely have nothing doing with her and…'' Avery paused. She suddenly remembered bumping into her in the morning. ''I… I bumped into her this morning too.'' Avery drunk the rest of the water in the bottle and sighed.
''You don't know her, but she gave us 30 hours. You seem to be familiar with the number 30 very well. Do you expect me to believe that you have nothing doing with her?''
''Prosecutor Oak, were you lied to all your life? Think whatever you want, I don't care. This lady has nothing to do with me.'' Avery said and walked away.
Kai sat back and watched Avery as she walked out of the joint café that belonged to both offices. Avery got into her car and drove away.
….
''Crazy bastard. That lunatic... That son of a dog. How dare he threaten me? Do I look helpless to him?'' Avery kept cussing out as she drove the car.
….
Kai's villa.
Kai arrived at his villa and saw his mother waiting anxiously at the entrance. He closed his car door and walked towards her.
''Mum, what are you doing outside?''
''Kai, you are finally here. Wait, I have something to do.'' Mrs. Oak said and removed a yellow paper from her pocket. She fanned it over Kai's face and used it to touch his face a couple times.
''Mother, what are you doing?'' Kai stepped back and stopped his mother.
''The shaman said I should do this before you enter the house today. Tell me, how many women you encountered today?'' Mrs. Oak looked serious and determined as she asked. She wanted to know everything since the shaman told her that her son must have already encountered that woman with two souls.
''Mum, what are you getting at?'' Kai went inside and Mrs. Oak followed suit.
