Misery Zombies

It was an average day before it all began. Then the night came. It was unlike any other night that ever happened and humanity never realized what had come to pass until it was too late. Zombies? Who on earth bothered themselves with such rubbish when the important matter was how to ensure you and possibly your family had enough money to buy food, pay bills, and other expenses? Then he called them. His servants immediately came, rushing to obey his commands. They left the dirt, following his command to destroy every living human being on the planet.

It was an average day before it all began. Normal warm morning, with sunshine waking up humanity. Children went to school. Adults went about their own business. It was a normal lunchtime with normal tired people returning home in the evening. Not one event during the entire day looked any different than it would on any other. Mothers lovingly hugged their children as they tucked them into beds. Fathers accompanied them or waited for children to fall asleep as they dealt with the last business of the day. Animals went to sleep.

Then the night came.

And stayed.

It was unlike any other night that ever happened and humanity never realized what had come to pass until it was too late. None of the human race in this modern-day and age expected anything fantastic would happen. After all, who would even believe in such nonsense that used to scare our ancestors, as supernatural beings roaming free at night? Not modern people for sure. After all, for a lot of people - religion was invented. Along with religion, any beliefs in supernatural, night beings, gods, devils, and such was utter gibberish that only small children believed. The new religion for modern people was money. Power. Business prowess. Not reminiscence about old legends and stories, because there was no gain in it - no money, power, or prowess came from knowledge about such ridiculous things, so none bothered with it.

Zombies? Who on earth bothered themselves with such rubbish when the important matter was how to ensure you and possibly your family had enough money to buy food, pay bills, and other expenses?

The modern era had a thousand problems, but supernatural beings most definitely were NOT one of them.

Except.

They were.

They just did not know it yet. But do not fear. They are about to experience how wrong they were.

Amongst humans getting ready for sleep, u could see a pretty sunset. It was displayed in amazing ways, red dominating above the setting sun on the horizon, as the clouds were colored in different shades of dark purple and pink. A bit away, the rest of the sky consisted of even deeper purple, dark blue color, even completely black in places far away, and of course, one would expect to see numerous stars.

Except there have not been any stars. Even though the clouds were not in tick layers and one should be able to see them, stars were missing from the night sky.

Suddenly, in the distance, one could see a falling star. It flew over the horizon, passing over the deep forests and grass clearings, lighting them momentarily as it went by. It went closer to the clouds and Earth until it disappeared in the distance. Its impact caused a global shock that touched and went through everything on the planet. It pierced the Earth to its core.

At that moment, everything went dark.

Simultaneously, it was as if every light in existence collapsed. Electricity died. Fires died. Candles got extinguished. Every single source of light disappeared. Still, that was not the worst. All the energy from the light and electricity went into the ground, finding and enveloping every single corpse buried in it. And out of the soil came hundreds and thousands of zombies.

Their cold, muddy bodies crawled out from the ground, breaking the barrier with their limbs. Their features were in different stages of decomposition, as they all died in the various timeframe from this particular night. Some of them were pretty fresh, with all the structure of a human body still intact. Others were deceased for longer periods of time, so their bodies were rotten to various degrees, and with their flesh, their features were misshaped and disfigured.

In some cases, where all the flesh has disappeared from the bones, due to the deceased being on the ground for a long time, what rose from the ground has lost all the shape and form of their previous selves - except the skelet.

Nobody and nothing was spared. Human remains were reanimated as well as animals, and fields, forests, towns and cities alike were slowly witnessing the rise of their dead ancestors.

One peculiar thing happened due to the events - every electric device was destroyed, changing the existence of the world as was known. If one was about to condense the emotional state of the entire planet it could have been done in one word - panic.
