Convincing

*Riinnngggg*

"Okay class," said Miss Bustier as the bell rang. "Please read the sequel of our last book tonight, from chapter one to three. And for those of you who have yet to hand in their rewriting of Snow White, remember that the deadline is tomorrow!"

"Yin," Marinette whispered. "Can you please spy on Lila with me?"

I gave her a what-the-hell look that was previously reserved for Chat, don't know why I haven't used it in a while...

"Oh Yin, please!" Marinette begged, making baby doll eyes.

"It's pretty much pointless, you know I'm not effected by anything you're going to do, Marinette," I said, looking straight at her to prove my point. Though I don't want to stalk anybody, I do need to go with Marinette to make sure she doesn't lash out at Lie-la, so I'll be accompanying her anyways.

"Tikki, help me?" Whispered Marinette into her purse.

"Yin, please help Marinette, that book is important. And you're probably the only one that can convince Adrien to hand it over when Lila gives him his book back!" Said Tikki, also giving me baby doll eyes.

"So...you're trying to use me to get something you want?" I asked, laughing on the inside. "I'm hurt."

I turn away and cross my arms in front of my chest.

"Uh sorry...but please!" Said Marinette, hugging my neck.

I pretended to sigh and said, "Okay, fine."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"But, I don't think that Lila will give Adrien his book back yet, she want to impress Adrien, so letting him know she's a thief isn't really a path she's going to take," I told Marinette.

Marinette frowned. "True...then how do we get it from her Tikki?"

"I...don't know yet...we'll figure it out soon!" Said Tikki.

I was trying to recall how Marinette and Tikki got the book back last night, but I couldn't. I didn't really re-watch the episodes so my brain may have cleaned up that knowledge to make space for piano lessons my mother had me take last week or however brain cells work.

"Hey, girls!" Said Alya, walking over to our isle. Tikki hurriedly ducked back into Marinette's purse as she approached. "What are ya'll planning?"

"N-nothing!" Stuttered Marinette, failing her arms around.

She looked to me. "Nothing to do with following Lila or Adrien right?"

I shook my head, wearing a poker face. "Nope, Marinette wants me to help her with her with the Snow White rewriting."

"Didn't she already hand it in yesterday?" Asked Alya.

"She did?" . I looked to Marinette. "Then why did you ask me?"

"Uh...Miss Bustier told me to have Yin give me some writing tips to improve. She said mine needs some polishing?" Said Marinette. I thought, laughing to myself. Seems like her skills do need some polishing, and not just the writing one.

"I'll leave you two to it then, I still have a lot to write before finishing Silver Moonrise's page on my blog! See you girls later."

Alya walked out of the classroom after we said goodbye.

"So, did you think of a plan to get the book?" I asked Marinette, turning back to her.

Her face had a gloomy expression. "Mari?" I asked. "What's wrong."

"What's wrong?" She asked. "The new hero, that's what!"

And I thought we were over this, but I guess not. I'm really hurt to be honest. Marinette is a bit distrusting, I've realized. However, this characteristic doesn't apply when she meets Alya, me nor Chat. The writers need to keep track of these things.

"Marinette, I really don't understand why you don't like her," I said, giving another shot at trying to convince my friend that I'm trustworthy. That's gong to confuse a few people if taken out of context.

"She- well, I still don't trust her yet and...she keeps taking my place..." Said Marinette, mumbling the last part.

I took a minute to digest what she just said. One minute later, I came to a conclusion.

"So...you're jealous?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"What?" She asked, very much offended by my suggestion. "No! Of course not..."

Marinette's eyes widen and I left her to her own thoughts as I thought of a plan.

So, l remember Lie-la threw the book away before her meeting with Adrien, could Marinette and Tikki gotten it after that?

But I'm pretty sure they saw the Adrien and Lie-la's entire conversation, and if that was actually the case, they would've missed some of the talk bc they went back to get the book...

Suddenly, I remembered an important point. Lie-la was trying her necklace on in the park and was reading while doing so, which means that Lie-la would still be in possession of the book even at the park! She probably threw it into a nearby trashcan when Adrien came.

"Okay," I said, turning to Marinette with a grin. "I have a plan!"

Marinette was still in her own world. She only answered after I pinched her cheeks.

"Hey! What was that for?" She asked, pouting.

I ignored her. "I know how we're going to get the book from Lie-la!"

********

"There she is!" Says Tikki, whizzing around Marinette and me.

Marinette and I watched as Lie-la left a nearby pawnshop. Well, I watched while Marinette glared.

"She's already heading to the park!" Whisper-shouted Marinette. She's really good at this following thing, is it a skill she was born with?

"Let's go!"

We hid behind a few trees and cars whenever Lie-la turns around. When we got to the park, Marinette was crouched behind a bench while I leaned behind a tree.

Lie-la was sitting on a park bench next to Marinette's, with just a trashcan and a few trees separating them. As I remembered, she had Adrien's book in her lap as she tied her 'miraculous' around her neck.

"You know," said Hedwig, popping out of my bottle bag all of a sudden. "This is wrong. You shouldn't be doing this."

I sucked in a guilt breath. "I know...but Tikki says that it's really important, so I assume Master Fu will be pleased if we got it?"

"Yes...but you could get it some other way that didn't involve stalking."

I was about to respond, but then I saw Adrien coming.

And as soon as Adrien arrived, Lie-la threw the book in the trashcan, as expected.

I looked over to Marinette to see if she and Tikki were in place. Sure enough, Marinette had her phone out and I could see a little read blob flying over to the trashcan Lie-la had dumped the book in.

"So, you know Ladybug? For real?" Adrien asked Lie-la as he sat down beside her. This, for some reason that is not because I have a crush on him, makes my chest hurt. I'm going to have to ask my mother to send me to a clinic when this fiasco is over.

"Not only did Ladybug save me life, but we've become very close friends, because we have something very special in common. It's something I wanted to tell you about..." Lie-la stopped for moment, as if she needed more courage to confess. In other words, she's doing this for dramatic effect.

I look away from the Bruinette's lies for a bit to see if Tikki had successfully brought the book to Marinette. Thankfully, she had.

I directed my attention back to Lie-la as she started talking again.

"You see Adrien...I'm a descendent of a superheroine myself, Volpina," Lied Lie-la, an innocent smile on her face.

Adrien's eyes widen. "Volpina? I think I read about her in my book!"

As Adrien brought up his bag to check his book, Lie-la aggressively slaps it down, saying, "Of course she's in your book!" Coming on a little to strong there girl. "She's one of the most important superheroes! More powerful and celebrated than Ladybug!"

I gave a little chuckle. Lie-la was probably trying to downgrade Ladybug because she thinks Adrien has a crush on her. Hah! Little does she know, Adrien has a crush on m- on...

"Between you and me," continued Lie-la, giving a much needed distraction of something we're not going to be talking about again. "Ladybug doesn't even make the top ten!"

I look over to Marinette again to see how she was handling the slander, and to say she wasn't too accepting would be an understatement.

Marinette had her teeth chomped on the book, looking furious. But before I could think of comforting words to say to her, my mind was filled with disgust. I think Marinette needs to see a doctor more than I do, because that book was just in a trashcan a minute ago. A trashcan that had probably been raided by pigeons and rats before.

"My grandmother gave me this necklace, it's my miraculous," said Lie-la holding up the necklace that she had bought from the pawnshop.

"Wow. She's good, good," said Hedwig who was watching from my bottle bag. "Hey, Yin..." said Hedwig suddenly. "Where are they going?"

"Who is going where-?" Oh no. I thought the pep talk I gave Marinette just now would help, but I guess she's still unforgiving.

When I caught up with Marinette behind the fence, she had already transformed into Ladybug.

"Marinette, what are you doing?" I asked, knowing exactly what she was going to do.

"I'm not going to let her get away with her lies, Yin. Surely, you don't want that either?"

"No, I don't. But I don't think just outright exposing her would do any good! She's just doing this impress Adrien."

"I know, which is why I'm going to let Adrien know the truth," said Ladybug.

"Don't do it, please!" I cried. But Ladybug had already zipped away with her yoyo.
