Best Kept Secret, Ya Hear? [Ch. 15]

Alone and scared they were. Eve, Steve and Alex had managed to escape EnderBrine's trickery. The Jungle was not meant for outsiders like Steve and Alex. Luckily though, they had Eve to guide them. There was no turning back now. They've already come this far. Why give up now?

Black panthers and tigers were very active, hunting down their evening meal. Chimpanzee's swung from tree to tree. Big and strong Gorilla's sat in their freshly-made nests. Sloths hung upside down from their branches. Bats squeaked as they flew around in the air.

Who knew the Jungle was so active at night. For being scary and treacherous, it wasn't all that bad. As long as you didn't bother the animals, they wouldn't bother you. Just make sure that you don't get in their way, especially when in close proximity to the black panthers.

The moon's bright light was blocked out by the trees' canopy roof of leaves. But just because Steve, Alex and Eve couldn't see the moon, doesn't mean they couldn't see the twinkling stars up in the night sky.

Every step they took, the dried, dead leaves on the ground crunched. The sticks and twigs that rested on the ground, snapped in half. The last thing Steve, Alex, and Eve needed was to attract unwanted attention.

"We're almost there," Eve mentioned as she quickly glanced down at the map. She wanted to make sure they were still going in the right direction. The Jungle was a disorientating mess. Rumor has it that if you enter the Jungle, you'll never be able to escape. No matter how hard you tried. This place was not friendly at all. White the opposite honestly.

"Where does Scott live again?" Alex asked Eve.

"From what I've heard, he lives on a beach," Eve answered as she glanced down at the map again, "his home should be right up ahead."

"I didn't think this journey would be any longer than a day," Steve mentioned, "it's a tiring journey."

"It is, but if you want answers, you'll just have to persevere," Eve said, "the sooner we get there, the sooner we'll be able to leave."

Steve and Alex were beginning to get more anxious. They were constantly trying to look over Eve's shoulder and down at the map. But before they knew it, they had made it to the end of the Jungle. A small beach with clean, white sand was visible now, as was the clear blue ocean.

"There," Eve said as she pointed in the direction of the small house. "Scott's house."

Eve put the map away into her inventory. She then began making her way over to the small house. Steve and Alex followed close behind her. As Eve got closer to the house, she noticed something was odd.

The front door was wide open, the torches were extinguished. Scott's home was completely dark. Steve and Alex were also wondering why the house was dark. If someone was home, the torches would surely be lit, and the door closed shut. That was not the case though in this situation.

"Why is the house so dark?" Steve questioned as he couldn't see into the house. "Is this abandoned? Where's Scott?"

"Whatever happened here, must've been serious. Scott, I assume, must've vacated in a hurry," Eve said. "By the looks of it, the house doesn't look that old."

Sure, there was some mossy cobblestone at the houses' base, but other than that it looked fine. Cautiously, Eve walked into the house. Steve and Alex remained outside. They were standing in front of the doorway. Alex had the right idea by taking her sword out of her inventory.

Nightfall was almost over. The moon was reaching the end of its run in the sky. Soon it'd be the sun's turn. As the moon continued its descent, the black starry sky began to transition into day.

In the near distance, Steve and Alex could see the giant sea turtles slowly making their way back towards the ocean. Leaving behind only their newly laid eggs. Dozens of small eggs were left exposed on the beach.

Steve then glanced over to his right at the jungle's edge. Faint glowing lights could be seen eliminating from amongst the trees. Steve tapped Alex's arm. She turned her head to look at Steve.

"What?" She said.

"Look," Steve responded as he pointed in the direction of the Jungle's tree line. "Who are they?"

The torches' light was bright enough to where the light cast shadows of the blockheads who were holding them. The entirety of the tree line was lit up. There were dozens of them if not more. This couldn't be good. For all Steve and Alex knew, these mysterious blockheads could be dangerous and hostile. Are they?

Alex glared over to where Steve was pointing at. She could see the torches burning, and shadows of the blockheads. It was kind of scary. How did this many blockheads suddenly appear out of nowhere. It's only been a few minutes since Steve, Alex and Eve arrived at the abandoned house.

While Steve and Alex remained outside of the house, Eve was occupied inside the house. To see in the dark, Eve had a torch in her hand. Her main objective was to find out what happened to Scott. Searching for clues in the dark was more complicated than it had sounded.

As Eve walked around carefully, she came upon a bookshelf. To get a better view of the books' titles, she held the torch closer to the bookshelf. Scanning each shelf carefully, only three stories stood out to her.

Minecraft Comes To Life

Minecraft Adventures: The Savage Lands of the OverWorld

Mineaggedon & The End of the OverWorld

Those were just a few books that stood out to Eve. She then quickly snatched the books off of the shelf and put them into her inventory. Maybe there were answers to Steve and Alex's questions. The only way to find out was to read the books from cover-to-cover. That is going to be an exhausting task to accomplish. But it must be done.

"Hey Eve?" Steve said, "you might want to come out here. We have company."

Eve immediately stopped what she was doing. She walked over to the doorway and then stepped outside. Before Steve and Alex could say something, Eve turned her head to her right. Should they be concerned? Scared? Nervous?

"They're just standing there," Steve mentioned, "they haven't even moved once. It looks like they're waiting for something...or someone."

Eve didn't take her eyes off of the mysterious blockheads. Steve and Alex were standing right behind her. Eve squinted her eyes so she could get a better look at the blockheads.

"Have they said anything to you two?" Eve questioned. Steve and Alex glanced at one another.

"No," Steve said, "they haven't."

"Then why not communicate with them?" Eve questioned, " I doubt they're hostile."

"How can you be so sure?" Alex questioned, "do you not see how many of them there are?"

Eve scoffed and rolled her eyes. She shook her head. Eve turned around and handed Alex her torch. Alex it took it from her. After she did that, Eve turned around to look at the jungle's tree line.

"Hello?" Eve said loudly, "is anyone there? Show yourselves!"

Sounds of leaves rustling and crunching could be heard, followed by footsteps. One of the blockheads came walking out of the Jungle and onto the beach. Steve, Alex, and Eve all stared over at the female blockhead.

"Who are you guys?" The female blockhead questioned, "and what are you doing in that house? Name yourselves this instant!"

Steve and gulped loudly. They both suddenly got a feeling that these blockheads weren't very friendly. In fact, they sounded very demanding.

"This is Steve and Alex," Eve said, "and I'm Eve. We mean absolutely no harm."

"Tell me Eve," the female blockhead said, "what are you three doing at Scott's house anyways?"

"We're looking for Scott. My map indicated he'd be at this exact location. But when we got here, he was nowhere to be found," Eve explained, "and what's your name? Who are your friends?"

The female blockhead chuckled.

"Full of questions," the female blockhead said, "aren't you? Anyways, I'm Wendy. My friends hiding away in the trees are my fellow resistance members."

Steve, Alex and Eve didn't quite catch the last part of Wenday's sentence. In fact, they were all bewildered. How come none of them heard about this so-called resistance before? How long has the resistance been around for? What's their main objective? Where's their hideout located? Just too many questions and not enough answers.

"Say that last part again," Eve asked politely.

"My friends hiding away in the trees are my fellow resistance members," Wendy repeated once more. "That part right?"

Eve nodded her head. Now that Steve, Alex and Eve heard what Wendy had said, they now knew what she was talking about.

"You're the resistance?" Eve questioned, "what's your guys' overall goal?"

"To dethrone Nora and restore peace to our World," Wendy had answered, "but it's been harder than it sounds. Nora doesn't seem to want to surrender that easily. And that's where we come in."
