15 The Elixir

Before she was tricked by Silas into believing that he loved her, Qetsiyah was a strong and nerdy witch who was only ever interested in magic and research.

After all, she was a prodigy. A genius who wasn't only the strongest witch in her coven, but the world.

It was proven many times in the show that even after two thousand years, a few drops of her blood contained enough power to rival the energy a witch could draw from a celestial event.

And she was intelligent enough to create the spells like 'immortality spell', 'the cure', and even a whole new dimension of torment that served as afterlife for supernatural beings.

Such a person could never have a submissive or meek personality. In fact, Qetsiyah was prideful, and had a strong character with high intelligence.

But all told, she was still human. And all humans, no matter what kind, can fall in love.

Qetsiyah just happened to fall in love with someone who never loved her back.

Silas only convinced Qetsiyah that he loved her so she would make the 'immortality spell'.

Usually she would've been able to see that coming, but a woman in love is indeed blind.

Qetsiyah and Silas were the two most powerful members of the 'Travelers'. Within their entire coven, only he was strong enough to come even remotely close to her powers.

So her infatuation with him was born from her curiousity towards him, and his charming personality.

He fooled her well, making her fall head over heels for him. So much so that eventually, what Qetsiyah felt for Silas developed into true love.

For someone with a strong character and such high intelligence, it's hard to actually fall in love.

Because they tend to see the world from a realistic point of view, and preferred a rational and logical approach towards everything.

Most of the time, 'love' is nothing but a concept to them.

But all told, they are still only humans.

And in case if they do fall in love, their love in also so unnaturally strong, almost obsessively possessive.

On her wedding day, Qetsiyah was just like any other women in love. She blushed and smiled the same way, and dreamt and desired the same thing.

Like a lovesick idiot, she created an entire garden for their wedding.

And at his request, she created a spell that would keep them alive forever. The 'immortality spell', so they would never have to part, even in death.

Silas and Qetsiyah were going to drink the 'immortality spell' as a part of their wedding ceremony.

However, she was left waiting at the alter.

Then everything suddenly started to die, the wedding flowers, the garden trellis, and their harvest.

Nature itself began to retaliate, trying to find balance for the 'immortality spell'.

This wasn't supposed to happen until they actually consumed the 'immortality spell'.

So Qetsiyah realised why.

Silas had already taken the 'immortality spell' without her. He was already drinking it somewhere else.

He took what he wanted, and then he just abandoned her.

This one fantasy was most likely the one and only fantasy she ever HOPED to be real instead of making it real through her magic like the realist in her would usually do before she fell in love.

She wanted it to be real so badly that she even bent the rules of what was possible by creating the 'immortality spell', at his one request.

Yet all of a sudden, all her hopes and dreams were completely shattered.

So ofcourse, Qetsiyah being a woman with strong character and bold personality, reacted violently to it.

She started searching for him. To make him understand how much he hurt her.

And finally found him in the wilderness, cheating on her with her handmaiden and friend, Amara.

Silas had stolen and given the 'immortality spell' to Amara, who had apparently also chosen to betray her.

Betrayed by her two most trusted people, this moment was a great turning point for Qetsiyah.

It could either make her stronger, or break her.

But because of the life she had lived until now, she suffered very little emotional challenge, so she had very little experience in dealing with such emotional pain. Let alone this heartbreak that all of a sudden shattered her heart into a million pieces.

At one moment she was still daydreaming about her life after marriage, and the next moment she opened the curtain and discovered the cold hard truth.

Qetsiyah could not cope well with these many spontaneously changing highs and lows in her life, and finally broke down.

Perhaps things could be different had she received proper council, or a friend to rely on, but her only friend, Amara, had also betrayed her.

As a result, she was haunted by sheer grief and anger, seeking for an answer to her predicament, but found none.

Which led her to do all that she did.

She dumped Silas in a tomb with 'the cure' to his immortality, hoping he would take it and die, because she had created a supernatural limbo in the afterlife to trap his soul.

A supernatural limbo that she anchored to Amara's immortal body, thus making her experience the death of countless supernatural beings throughout her eternal existence.

But this was an act of passion, done only on impulses.

However, afterwards even her coven betrayed her for creating 'the immortality spell', and cold-bloodedly murdered her in her sleep.

Unable to pass on and find peace, she spent a thousand years in the 'Other Side'. A cold dark place. ALONE. Without any form of human interaction whatsoever.

Her only source of entertainment was watching the lives of future doppelgängers of Silas and Amara.

Century after century she would watch version of them find each other. Like magnets. Always living the same story. Conquering all, and falling in love.

This only reminded her of her trauma, over and over again, in every generation.

It was like Hell for her.

Anyone would go crazy in this situation, but due to her high intelligence, Qetsiyah held on, and even somewhat recovered with time.

Though she started to become obsessive over the tragedies of her past, and became vindictive.

Unable to let go of her past, unable to look ahead at the future, unable to live in the moment, and unable to get a new start.

All told, it could be so much worse.

If there was some normal person in her place who had to withstand a thousand years of such torment, then they would completely loose even a modicum of sanity, and their mental state would be too far gone for any hope for recovery.

In the show, even after two thousand years, she had not lost her mental faculties. Which only proved her mental fortitude.

As time passed, Qetsiyah began to loose all hopes of passing on and finding peace, until she discovered Kol's existence.

At first she found nothing special, but as she kept watching his life play out, she discovered the difference between him and the other doppelgängers.

Tatia, the doppelgänger of Amara also lived in the same village as him, yet Kol chose some other unremarkable village girl over her.

Qetsiyah became more and more curious about Kol.

She observed him all his life. She saw him at his best, and at his worse. All his defeats, his wins, and losses. His lies and deceptions. She had seen him become an immortal, unkillable monster, and all his desperate and embarrassing moments.

Even so, when she discovered the witch spirits from the 'Ancestral plane' colluding against him in his moment of weakness, she chose to help him.

And so they finally met.

It was in Kol's personality to always return the act of malevolence towards him with malevolence, and an act of benevolence with benevolence.

So during their first meeting, when he discovered that Qetsiyah tried to save him from a fate worse than death, he decided to help her get her life back together.

In the beginning it was only just that, trying to help her, but Kol, due to his profession in his past life had a habit of always reading people. To try to learn about their true nature.

His death, along with a lot of time may had passed, but this part of his personality always stayed with him.

So Kol unconsciously kept trying to learn more and more about Qetsiyah's character as he sought to find a way to help her out.

Eventually, he discovered her true self. The woman she was behind that vail of craziness and vindictiveness born of tragedy.

As time passed, he visited her more and more often, trying to find ways to convince her to leave with him to the world of living.

As Kol got to know her better and better, Qetsiyah being a paranoid witch with trust issues, tried to resist. She tried to ignore him, block him from coming to 'the other side', lashed out on several occasions, and even acted violently.

But Kol only saw this as a good sign. It meant that he was finally getting to her, and she was only resisting change. She was scared at the possibilities that the outside world could bring.

Kol knew that at this point, she only needed some time, and some space.

So he took it easy and stopped trying to convince her to live once again, and just visited her normally. Even reducing the number of visits.

They talked about their daily lives, her life before meeting Silas, changes in culture with the passage of time, difference in lifestyles, development through the times and some insignificant little things in life.

As they both met each other less and less, they started to value their meetings more. Especially Qetsiyah, who had to wait for a long time to finally experience some real human interaction.

As time passed, she became less violent and her mental health started to improve.

She started to slowly revert back to the woman she was before she met Silas.

Then they started to genuinely appreciate each other's company.

And eventually, they started to develop romantic feeling for each other.

Ofcourse, it was only Kol at first, who was slowly falling for her.

And it was hard not to.

After all, the pre-Silas, pre-crazy Qetsiyah was a pretty incredible woman. And Kol spent so much time with her.

It wasn't like he had closed off his heart just because he was already in a relationship with Astrid.

Because if he did, then he wouldn't be Kol. The same Kol who wanted to explore the multiverse in search for an adventure.

Such an adventurous person could never close off his heart for anything, no matter the reason.

Only, he just didn't realise it at first, until Astrid pointed it out to him.

She knew him very well, and he never hid anything from her from the beginning, so it was quite easy for her to realise how he subconsciously changed his tone while talking about Qetsiyah.

After that, it took some time for Kol to acknowledge his feelings, but when he did, he revealed his intentions for Qetsiyah to Astrid.

And she answered with violence, like the true Viking warrior she was.

They had a fight. Destroying their castle in the process, along with most of the surrounding areas.

But as the saying goes, time heals all wounds.

Eventually, Astrid met Qetsiyah and the three became closer and closer to each other, like a real family.

However, that's the story to be told for another day.

As time passed, Qetsiyah became best friends with Astrid, and started to really fall in love with Kol.

And this new-found love acted as a backbone for her to finally face her issues that she had been avoiding all along. About her past, her behaviour, her actions and reactions, and the possibilities for her future in the world of living.

Overall, this relationship of theirs only served to hasten her recovery process.

.

Unlike Kol, his day-walkers could not use magic, because creating day-walkers basically meant changing the race of someone from one to another.

So when Qetsiyah finally decided to join the world of living, her and Kol created an Elixir together, as a sign of their love.

After all, Kol and Astrid were both Immortals, and Qetsiyah never wanted to part from those she now called family.

All told, she didn't want to become like Astrid either. Forever cursed to unable to use Magic.

So they came up with this new Elixir that would make her immortal while still allowing her to use Magic.

It would not change one species into another, like her 'immortality spell' and all its variations did, and most importantly it would not defy the laws of nature in any way.

This new Elixir could potentially be used by any living species in existence and had the following features.

1. Anyone who took the elixir would be rejuvenated, and their body would revert back to their best age of physical fitness.

They would also acquire the best physical fitness of that age, like Captain America, but only immortal.

Even if someone old enough to be on their death bed took the elixir, they would immediately become young and healthy by taking it.

2. If it was to be taken by someone who had not yet reached their best age of physical fitness, then the elixir would lay dormant within their system until they grew up enough.

Until then, it would constantly make changes in their body to adjust the best physical fitness of any age they reach.

3. Anyone who took the elixir at or after the age of their best physical fitness, would never age again. They would have infinite lifespan.

4. Since it did not change the race of those who took the elixir, they would retain all their previous abilities that they had before taking the elixir, including the ability to use Magic.

5. Whoever took the elixir was not impervious to any harm and only had a minor regeneration ability even weaker than wolverine. So it was balanced in itself.

6. Since the person who took the elixir could be killed by external means, nature did not try to find balance by creating doppelgangers.

7. The elixir was balanced in itself and did not affect the nature, and in return, nature did not affect the elixir or the one who took it.

That meant that the elixir was not influenced by the laws of the world. It would work even if they were to travel to a different multiverse altogether.

Well, this chapter focuses on Qetsiyah's character, and why the relationship of Kol, Astrid and Qetsiyah makes sense.

But mostly, this whole chapter is just a info. dump, without even one dialogue spoken by any character.

Which is why I didn't cover everything in it. So as not to bore everyone to death.

Anyway, their relationship and their characters will be explored slowly in the future as the story progresses.

Also - I added some material at the end of the chapter, "Birth Of The Original Family", to clear up any doubts. - Do check it out.

If you like this story, then add it to library, and fuel it with Power Stones.
