“I watch a lot of soap operas,” I admitted. Which, given my recent mental state, suddenly made some sense. Maybe they were trying to tell me something. “In any case, I forgot about all that stuff.” I pointed at my head. “In here.” I pointed to my heart. “And in here.” I left my dick out of it. It had done well over the years. Talk about your saving graces.

He sighed. “Pretty deep shit for a guy lying in the grass of a deserted high school.” He turned his head my way. “But okay, I’m with you on a lot of that stuff. I mean, if you didn’t notice it, I do go solo in that cabin of mine.”

I turned my head his way. Our eyes locked, those tummy butterflies on the wing again. “I noticed.”

“So you came looking for me to relive your past?” he asked. “Is that even possible? I’m not the me in that past, Jack. You’re not the you. For all intents and purposes, we’re strangers.”

“More deep shit,” I said. “Which soaps do you watch?”

He grinned again. “No cable.”
