“If I tell you, you promise not to run away again?”

He grinned. “Sort of hard to run from this position, Jack.”

I nodded. I swallowed hard. “Your dad, Bing. Your mom died. Your dad disappeared.” He continued staring. Time seemed to stand still. The room was noisily silent. “Do you know where your dad is, Bing?”

“That’s an odd question, Jack,” he said. “You never even met my dad.”

I pushed myself up onto my elbows. “That’s true, and I never gave it much thought until recently. Why is that I never met him, Bing? We dated all that time and I never once met either of your parents.”

He sat up in the bed, legs hanging over the side. His were covered with freckles. Opie had just fucked me. “You seem to have found out a lot in your quest, Jack,” he said. “You tell me.”
