Chapter 37

Nell was currently sitting at his desk, working on his plans to comprehend the idea that not only was Ruby maybe still alive in this verse, but that this could perhaps fix this verse. And he pledged he'd do whatever it took to make sure that, while he'd most likely be locking Nichole up for Rehabilitation for the rest of her life, he'd get Ruby back to help Microsoft X. He knew Nichole was beyond redemption at this point, but if he could save Ruby, he might be able to convince Jacob to go home and let him undertake the job instead of a second-rate special force. But, in any case, he was determined to finish this task.

He was distracted from his thoughts, though, when he heard the elevator open and saw Caleb enter her office.

"Do you want to tell me how you went through security?" Nell inquired.

"It turns out that displaying a Vulture's badge makes getting past security simpler." Caleb spoke up, and Nell sighed.

Caleb being a commander in this planet rather than the Celestial Wielder Guardian makes things quite weird for Nell.

"What brought you here?" Nell inquired.

"Jacob has almost walled himself in his office and has entrusted the Vulture's day-to-day operations to me. When I try to question him about it, he just claims it's a personal concern, which I appreciate. However, if I believe that whatever is going on is going to distract him from his duties and unwittingly put my fellow Vulture's and my lives in danger, I'm going to need some answers." Caleb spoke out, and Nell nodded.

"We recently found that the bone fragments we assumed were from Ruby and Microsoft X's son were actually from a dog." Nell stated.

"No surprise he's so distracted." Caleb stated.

"But that isn't the end of it." Nell stated. "All right, what exactly is it?" Caleb inquired. "The Medical Office mistook animal bones as human bones because they were paid to do so. Catherine wrote this." Caleb did a double take when Nell said it.

"Wait, Catherine bribed the doctors, the cops, and everyone else to make us believe Ruby and her child were dead?" Caleb inquired.

"Yeah," Nell agreed.

"You are aware that Catherine violated the law, correct? I mean, she's been involved in both corruption and conspiracy." Caleb stated.

"Because of the GMHC's high level of corruption (GLOBAL MICROSOFT HEIRACHY CORPORATION). She's already exploited it to her advantage, so who's to say she won't do it again?" Caleb nodded as Nell spoke.

"I'll talk to Jacob and ask if the Vultures can check into it. I'm very convinced the corruption in the GMHC was half the reason King Owl existed." Caleb stated.

"Probably." Even if Nell knew the true reason King Owl became who he was, she didn't think she could tell Caleb.

"So, now that you're back, what exactly do you want to do here? I know your master, King Owl, passed away, and Microsoft X left you in control of his holdings here in Maryland after he went; do you have any clue why he chose you for that?" " Caleb inquired, and Nell sighed.

"I suppose he thought I was the best candidate for the position. And I'm going to show him wrong." Nell stated.

"What do you mean?" Caleb inquired.

"This bond meant everything to them both. So I'm going to repair it and reassemble everything." Nell stated.

"What, how, sorry, but you don't have the background to rebuild something like this." Caleb stated.

"More than you might expect. I spent a lot of time here before going to Digital Training, and I even interned here directly under Microsoft X in primary school. To be honest, I think he was training me to be a hero like my master, since while I may not have worked here, I know enough about this organization to get it back on track. Maybe I'll get into real estate." Nell stated.

"How come real estate?" Caleb inquired.

"To assist in the rehabilitation of run-down structures outside of the Vulture's districts and to give cheap housing to Maryland's working class." Nell stated.

"Wow, you've really changed." Caleb stated.

"You've got no idea," Nell replied as Robert walked into the office.

"I apologize for interrupting, but there has been a break-in at an M.R.C. Vault location." Robert stated.

"Duty calls," Nell explained.

"Thank you for your time, Nell." Caleb stated.

"At any time. Simply call the next time." Caleb smiled as Nell spoke.

"You've got it. I'll prove myself." Caleb said as he approached the elevator.
