Chapter 9 - UA

...

<Japan Musutafu UA 10:12>

"Woah!" I couldn't help but exclaim as I saw the gigantic building in front of me, it looked very elegant and modern but also had a touch of majesty as if it was an indescribable artistic sculpture.

The best Hero Academy in all of Japan, UA.

After a few minutes of admiring the majestic building, my surprise gradually died down and I headed inside the building to take the written exam.

Apparently they were dividing the students into different rooms due to the large number of people taking the exam, so it would take some time to know which way I would go.

Looking around me I could see many people with very crazy particularities, I felt excited and a little nervous knowing that these people would be my opponents for a place in the best academy in the country.

"Get out of the way stupid Deku!"

I heard a very loud voice in the direction of the school entrance, I turned my head to find a blond, red-eyed boy yelling at a dark green haired boy.

The blond haired one quickly went to form up in line as he looked around like a predator watching his prey.

"So these are the 'extras' I'm going to have to defeat...". Said the blond to himself with arrogance and aggression in his voice, this sentence earned him many death stares and hatred from the people around him but this simply made the blond smile sadistically.

'Disgusting.' I thought disapprovingly, I'm not sure that's the attitude a Heroes wannabe should have?.

"Miss, here's your homeroom number!". Said a beautiful lady directing people to their exams, apparently without realizing it I had come my turn, I thanked the lady and headed to my classroom to take my exam....

"That was exhausting..." I said with a tired sigh as I headed to the second part of the UA quota test, the heroism test.

The written test was divided into two parts, the first on general knowledge such as history, culture, math, among other things. These questions were difficult for most people but not for me, although there were questions that I had to think about for a while they were not particularly challenging.

The second part of the written exam was more... strange, it involved questions like:

*In a hostage situation, what would you do?*

*If you had to choose between saving people or saving your fellow hero, what would you choose?*

While most were easy, some left me hesitating and wandering about what I would do in that situation. In the end I realized that these questions were to get a better understanding of the aspirant himself, naturally I wrote down what I would do in that situation since it wasn't as if I could lie in these questions.

After walking along with the other aspirants, I arrived at a large room where many aspirants were seated, the place looked like some sort of giant stage, following the number I had been assigned I went to my seat and waited for the show to begin.

After a few minutes the lights went out and....

"HOW ARE YOU PARTICIPANTS!!!" I heard a voice very loudly from the middle of the stage.

The voice came from a tall man with golden hair, he had sunglasses and was wearing a mix between rock and metal, it was easy to identify him for many as Present Mic.

"""....."""

"IT LOOKS LIKE THESE PEOPLE ARE DISCOURAGED!! NEVER MIND!! LET'S GO FOR IT!! PLUS ULTRA!!" Mic shouted again as he waved his arms to lighten the mood.

"""..."""

At this point I was starting to feel a little sorry for the Hero...

Suddenly a large screen descended behind Mic and showed 4 large silhouettes on the screens.

"THE EXAM IS... A COMBAT EXAM!! YOU WILL HAVE TO DEFEAT THE ROBOTS TO GET POINTS!! AREN'T YOU EXCITED? GIVE ME THOSE SCREAMS!!" Mic shouted again as he nodded to himself, not caring how people looked at him.

"""...."""

"THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR!! ALRIGHT THEN..."

He then proceeded to explain the rules, what could and could not be done.

Basically we had a few minutes to destroy as many robots as we could, there were the 1 point robots which were small and weak but very fast because of the wheel they had on their one leg.

The 2 point robots which were basically scorpions, these were the most balanced.

The 3-point robots were large and strong but very slow.

Finally the 0-point robot, which... I don't know what it did, no, seriously, he didn't explain what it did, he just told us that it was a surprise and a waste of effort to defeat it since it gave no benefit whatsoever.

From the silhouette on the screen I guessed it was some kind of tank or something similar.

After the explanation we were divided into different groups, from group A to G in different Artificial Cities to give a little realism to the situation.

Now we were in a bus to the designated area, in my case it was Zone F.

The inside of the bus was quiet everyone had a predatory look on their face, and it was at this moment that I realized that the others would do anything to be victorious.

I unconsciously sharpened my gaze as I looked at the other hopefuls.

After getting off the bus we saw a large wall in front of us with a large letter F in the middle of the door.

After a few minutes the gate opened showing us a large, completely empty city.

Everyone got into position to get into the city as quickly as possible.

My heart was pounding as nerves coursed through my bones.

"Good luck, do your best dear daddy is rooting for you!"

A memory from this morning came to mind.

I took a deep breath to calm my inner nerves before I smiled excitedly as I got into position to shoot off into the city.

"ALRIGHT LET THE EXAM BEGIN!!!" Mic announced to the participants with a loud shout.

'Let's go!' I thought with an excited look on my face.

In less than a blink of an eye my world turned gray.

And in the next moment I appeared in front of a 2 point robot before giving it a high kick to the head which was easily destroyed.

'Metal isn't that tough!' I thought in surprise before smiling and running towards the next robot. 'Then I shouldn't waste my 'Acceleration' if all the robots are made of the same metal!'

The other hopefuls quickly realized that the Practical Exam had already started and began destroying robots rapidly.

As I ran I was surrounded by three 1 point robots, all of which were approaching at the same time in a combined attack.

I quickly ran towards one of the three robots, the robot quickly reacted by throwing a punch at me which I easily dodged by ducking to the left.

With a jump I managed to get on top of it, I looked sideways at the two robots that were almost behind me and quickly gave a strong punch to the robot's head.

I turned my head to see that the two robots were already pointing their fists in my direction, with an amused smile I dropped off the destroyed robot using it as a shield to stop the robots punches.

Taking a breath I used another 'Acceleration' and appeared on top of one of the two robots which I quickly destroyed with a low kick.

The other robot tried to move but its arm was stuck in the body of the first robot which gave me an easy opportunity to destroy it with a punch.

'Now I have a total of 5 points, that wasn't bad at all.' I thought taking a breath, feeling one of my 'Acceleration' recharge.

I ran off with a victorious smile looking for more metal to destroy.

"This is fun!"

After a few minutes Lena had already scored 20 points. There was half the exam time left, even though she felt she had already passed the exam she was still taking out as many robots as she could to secure her spot in UA.

Using 'Acceleration' to climb a building to get a better view of the terrain and look for places where there was a higher concentration of robots.

Looking around for a few seconds I could make out where a couple of 3 and 2 point robots were located. Although I was tempted to go for the 3-pointers, they required 3 strong hits to destroy one of them, which would take a lot of time and effort.

She was already starting to feel hungry and there was still half the time left, she had to ration her energy as best she could.

Suddenly I saw how a robot was about to run over a participant who had an injured leg.

Acting quickly I used 'Acceleration' twice to get to where the person was, I appeared at the robot's head and all I did was give it a hard blow on the head which destroyed it immediately.

"Are you okay, do you need me to take you to the entrance?". I said as I jumped off the robot and approached the participant.

"I- I don't need your help get lost!" shouted the participant as he tried to get up failing miserably.

I was about to argue when a medic suddenly appeared at my side and took the participant away despite his protests.

Sighing to myself I went back to looking for more robots....

<Japan Shizuoka 13:37>

In the end I had managed to collect 41 points, not bad I think... after that the medical team checked me for injuries but there was nothing serious, apart from a few small cuts.

I was currently sitting on the couch at home watching TV, it had been a week since the entrance exam, and although I felt confident that I had passed the exam I still felt the nerves coursing through my body every time I remembered the exam.

Winston walked into the living room with a letter in his hand and a smile on his face. "Hey! Guess what just came in the mail from the-, hey!" only to have Lena snatch it away from him in less than a second with an 'Acceleration'.

Sulking, he sat down next to Lena to see what the letter said.

Lena uncovered it and there was a small black circular device, Lena placed it on the living room table and a projection of All Might appeared.

...

..

.

ALL MIGHT?!

"HELLO I'M HERE AS A PROJECTION! BEFORE YOU ASK ME WHY I'M HERE, LET ME TELL YOU THAT YES, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE, I WILL BE TEACHING AT UA!" greeted All Might as he smiled brightly, although, well, he always had the same smile.

"WE ARE IMPRESSED BY YOUR TALENT, MISS OXTON! YOU HAVE PERFORMED EXEMPLARY ON THE EXAM!" All Might exclaimed cheerfully.

And she succeeded, Lena and her father fell into stony silence to clearly hear All Might's response.

"YOU PASSED! WITH A LOT OF POINTS TO BOOT!" All Might said as he clapped his hands and a large board with many names written on it was revealed.

......

-Scoreboard-

Bakugo Katsuki - 77 EP - 0 RP

Lena Oxton - 41 EP - 35 RP

Eijiro Kirishima - 39 PE - 35 RP

...

.......

"THIS IS THE SCORE TABLE FOR THE EXAM! CONGRATULATIONS YOU RANKED #2! YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT IS "EP" AND "RP" RIGHT? WELL "EP" MEANS ELIMINATION POINTS AND "RP" MEANS RESCUE POINTS" Explained All Might quickly or rather as if he was reading a paper on the other side of the camera. "WE NOT ONLY EVALUATE YOUR COMBAT SKILLS BUT ALSO YOUR ATTITUDES AS FUTURE HEROES!"

Lena was genuinely surprised, she had helped some participants who seemed to have trouble with robots or others who had gotten hurt but she hadn't expected to be rewarded for that.

"WELCOME TO YOUR SCHOOL OF HEROES! PLUS ULTRA!!!"
