The young villain took a calming breath. If this was any other time, any other place, any other situation, Deku would be over the moon with utter joy and excitement.

Sitting at a table, face to face with All Might, the world-renowned superhero that cemented hero society itself, eating a serving of deep-fried squid balls while at the exhilarating UA sports festival.

Which had been known to be more exciting and influential than the Olympic Games.

Now, however...all he could feel was dread.

Deku had silently hoped that All Might would be anywhere but the festival, possibly halfway across the city helping those who needed it.

Guess no villains wanted to risk having the symbol of peace after them after the USJ incident.

But that just put his whole plan in danger. All Might could ruin everything he was aiming for with little to no effort.

However, the young villain had a theory about what had happened to All Might after his gruesome fight with the Nomu.

When the number one hero succeeded in sending that monster flying, he was looking worse for wear.

Being one of the only few who knew of his declining strength, it wouldn't be wrong to figure that he was exhausted after that battle.

Meaning, that there was a chance that his well of power might be running dry.

If Deku had to guess, he was probably holding back from transforming into his 'hero form' so he could make an appearance at the reward ceremony at the end of the festival.

It was a high gamble, hoping that the symbol of peace was running low on his god-like strength...but it was a gamble Deku was willing to take.

He'd come so far now, and there was no way he was going to let anyone, not even All Might, scare him away.

"So, Young Usagi, are you here with anyone?" Toshinori asked kindly.

"O-oh, yeah! My aunt and uncle!" Deku answered as normally as he could manage, trying to keep the quiver out of his voice. "

They got me tickets to go see the festival for my birthday. I always wanted to go see it in real life, ever since I was a kid."

That wasn't a lie. Izuku always loved watching the sports festival on TV, snuggled up in his All Might blanket, with a bowl of his favourite cereal, All Might-O's, and seeing all the amazing up-and-coming heroes take the stage and show the world what they were made of.

He always dreamed of taking part in the games themselves one day as well.

The withered number one hero smiled at the boy's words. "Well, I'm glad your dream came true, Young Usagi."

Deku kept himself from visibly flinching at the careless comment from his former idol. If he only knew...well, he would soon...as would everyone else...

A large explosion caught the two of them by surprise, the nervous boy nearly jumping out of his seat.

Deku looked out to the field and saw the students, all grouped up and in their horse formations, charging at one another as if they were in a real battle to the death.

"Well, looks like the cavalry battle's started." All Might commented as he watched the carnage take place.

All of the students were putting their quirks to the test to gain the upper hand, whether it was to grab as many headbands as possible, slow down the opposing teams, or completely hinder them.

The grounds had become an utter warzone, and the crowd was loving it.

"A pretty good metaphor if you ask me…"

Toshinori looked to the masked boy before him, curious at his odd choice of words.

"Those with quirks more functional and flashy, making others hold them up as they show off and fight others just as talented to be the best." The green hooded boy described the chaotic clash on the grounds.

"It pretty much sums up what hero society has become in this day and age."

The withered One for All user was astounded by the boy's deduction of the battle taking place, but couldn't help but show a melancholy grin. "You're right. There's no difference between this and the contest of oneupmanship that the hero profession has become today. You're quite perceptive for a young man."

Deku hid a knowing grin underneath his mask. "I get that a lot…"

Another blast caught the two's attention. Deku predicted that it was Bakugo once again, but was surprised to see that the familiar explosion came from someone else this time.

A boy with combed down blonde hair, and a rather bitter smile on his face, was taking on Bakugo, with the same quirk as the bomb boy.

Deku deduced that either the boy must have had the same kind of quirk as Bakugo, or possibly had a quirk that allowed him to copy the quirks of others.

Either way, the grinning boy seemed to be enjoying making Bakugo look like a fool with his own power.

And Deku was enjoying every minute of it.

Toshinori watched the clashing children at the bottom of the stadium and felt his heart grow heavy.

Nezu had suggested to him that he attempt to find a worthy successor to his power at the games, but none of the children here had that same fire...that same light as the boy who showed the true spirit of a hero he met last year.

The one who got away...

When young Bakugo was attacked by the Sludge Villain last year, the same boy who Toshinori had cruelly shut down for hoping to be a hero without a quirk, showed the true spirit of a hero he thought was long gone from the world.

By rushing in and trying to save his friend at the risk of his own life.

When he finally stepped in and saved the two boys, All Might was immediately swamped by the press.

He did everything he could to get away from them and searched everywhere for the boy who showed more heroism than he had in years.

Unfortunately, since that day, he never saw him again.

When he received word of the brave young man's disappearance, he went on the hunt. He searched high and low for Izuku Midorya, praying that he was all right.

He swore that if he ever found him, he would amend for his mistakes and turn that boy into the hero was always meant to be.

That was one year ago, now...And there had been no sign of the heroic Quirkless boy ever since.

The withered number one hero turned his attention back to the boy still watching the battle. He noticed the small smile underneath his mask, figuring he was in awe of the displays of power down below.

Toshinori decided to ask the boy an innocent question "So, Usagi, have you ever thought about becoming a hero?"

Deku froze at the difficult answer, hoping that his former idol didn't notice him flinch. "I-I did...once...But then...I decided that it wasn't for me..."

Toshinori quirked an eyebrow at the boy's passive answer, taking note of his change in body language. "How come? If you don't mind me asking."
