Chapter 5: Escape

When the first gunshot was heard, chaos then ensued. Different sounds of different caliber of guns could be distinctly heard despite the heavy pouring of the rain.

"Roger, why did you come with us? Why did you not rescue the madam?" asked the maid while panting hard due to running.

"Yes! We can do this. The madam needs you more" said the driver.

"No. I must protect her wishes together with the two of you" Roger replied.

BANG!

They looked at the direction of the sound reflexly. "We must go. Hurry" Roger urged his companions.

They were lucky that there was a narrow path beside the alley that was connected to the underground sewage. The sewage was abandoned, they thought, because it is dry and full of cobwebs.

The driver ran ahead to clear the path for the maid and the baby in her hands. While Roger stayed behind to protect them in case there were pursuers. They continued on their run for escape until they reached the end of the sewage tunnel. The driver was shocked because it was raining cats and dogs. When he emerged from the sewage tunnel, he immediately thought why is the end of the sewage tunnel is in the middle of the forest? But it was not the time for him to look for answers. While randomly selecting a direction, the trio ran deeper in the thick forest.

"Can…can…can we stop for a moment? I can't run anymore" the maid asked weakly as she stopped to catch her breath. "I am not trained like the two of you. I am just a maid not a bodyguard" she continued.

"Ok. We can stop here for a moment. How is the baby?" Roger inquired while surveying the surroundings for potential threat.

"She's still sleeping. I can't believe that she is still asleep after all the running that we did." the maid replied. "And not wet. Luck you" the maid joked while poking the sleeping baby.

"We need a concrete plan. Do you have any idea where we are?" the driver directed the question to Roger.

"I believe this is the forest depicted on the map. In the initial plan, we should go around this forest before we reach the safe house" he replied while squatting down. He pulled up some weeds and tried to draw the map in the dirt using his forefinger.

"This forest is humungous and we could easily get lost if we go deeper. As far as I can remember, there should be a small village in the north west of this forest. I just can't remember how far it is. If only we have a map and a compass this should be easy." he continued.

"I have a compass" said the driver.
