Had they fought it out? Had they talked?
Images from her dreams replayed in her head. Naked bodies, pale and writhing against the other.
She looked away before acknowledging the question of whether or not they’d chosen other means to settle their differences.
They weren’t with Detective Cruz as long as she had been, returning quickly to the parking lot with the tiny cop at their side. Darby tried to look suitably concerned but casual when they approached, but it was hard not to keep sneaking glances at Edmund to try and figure out what he’d done.
“It’s going to take my investigators some time to go through the crime scene,” Cruz said. “I probably won’t be able to release it for at least a day, so you have to stay closed until I do.”
She’d expected as much and nodded. “Do you know anything at all about who might have done this?”
