EXCERPT. "What do you mean?" "What I mean Ethan is that i can't live with a man who i am not married to." Maria snapped at me, her face flushed with emotion. This was the first time she had ever raised her voice at me. I could tell she was hurting. "So what do you want me to do?" Though i asked, a part of me already had a clue as to what she might say. "A divorce. I want you to divorce her so-." "I can't" I quickly cut her off. "Why not? Is there some law which says you can't?!" Maria paused. Her body trembling with rage," For God sake you were drunk Ethan! So was she! You have enough reason to get.-" "That's not what I meant." "Then what do you mean?" I didn't understand it myself. I had no idea what had come over me, but the flame. It burned deep inside my chest. I had to understand what it meant. "I want to feel it." "Feel what Ethan? You're not making any sense!" "I'm not stupid. Even though I was drunk i still had some Sense. There's no way i could have married her if i didn't have a reason. If i didn't feel something." "What are you trying to say to me Ethan." Maria slowly approached me, tears dripping down her face. I looked away from her, i didn't want my gaze to meet hers. I knew what i was doing wasn't right, i just couldn't stop myself. I had to find out what happened that night. "What I'm trying to say is that. I need to feel it. I need to understand what i felt for her that made me marry her. I need to understand that feeling and until i get that... I can't divorce her." "What?" "I'm sorry Maria." I knew i had hurt her, i knew what i was doing was wrong. But there was nothing more i could do. My mind was made up.

The best wife.

"Why did everyone react like that?" Roxanne, who watched the whole episode unfold, asked innocently.

When she arrived at the mansion, she felt uncomfortable as most of Ethan's domestic staff were older than him.

Some, by an insignificant number of years and other by an unmistakable gap. Now however, after watching the whole drama she realized the reason for such.

Most of Ethan's older employees were the ones who actually raised him. Or, so she thought.

"I never drive myself." Ethan shrugged. His eyes firmly fixed on the road. It had been six years since he last went behind the wheel. His body was saturated with nerves.

"Why don't you drive?" Roxanne inquired further. Again, she could not identify when she was going to far with her questions.

Ethan tensed up.

His hand gripped the steering wheel tightly. His leg unconsciously pressing on the accelerator.

"Enough with the questions, Okay?" Ethan replied sternly.

The drive to the shopping mall was quiet. The car felt like an ice box to Roxanne. Each time she stole a glance of Ethan's side view she'd feel Ethan tense up, almost as if he knew when she glanced at him.

"How am I supposed to get to know you if we never talk?" Roxanne finally spoke up. The icebox had become to chill for her liking. "I know this is just a trial marriage, but i should at least get to know you. All you ever do is give orders." She huffed.

"We're here." Ethan ignored her.

*RING**RING* His phone vibrated. Before Ethan picked it up, Roxanne already got a glance of who the call was from. Maria.

"Excuse me." Ethan said before he stepped out of the car. Though he looked apprehensive when the call came in, Ethan still took it. Leaving Roxanne alone without much concern as to her wellbeing.

One minute he was being all sweet offering to take her shopping. The next, he was getting worked up over a question. Now, he's zooming off to answer another woman's call. Roxanne folded her arms. Her first impression of Ethan wasn't a good one. She sighed then turned to fave the window.

'It doesn't matter. After all, she's his wife. I shouldn't care when a man gets a call from his love. I'm just a test run. He said it himself. She though to herself.'

Roxanne sat in the air-conditioned car, staring at the car's roof, slowly embracing the calm. Her mind was going round a lot of things.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the window.

It was Andrew.

Immediately, Roxanne opened the door, "Andrew i never thought I'd see you again." She embraced him. Her smiled widening. Even though Andrew was Ethan's PA, Roxanne hadn't seen him around the mansion since she arrived. She had so many questions.

"What are you doing here?"

"Um, I go where my boss goes?" Andrew joked it off. "Anyway something immediate came up so he signaled for me to be your escort." He smiled.

Roxanne face crinkled sightly, "You mean Maria?"

"Um. Why don't we go inside."

"It's alright she's his real wife after all. I still don't understand why he insisted on marrying me if he still had unfinished business. He won't even talk to me." Roxanne lamented. This wasn't what she expected from a marriage.

She and Andrew went into the mall. Their first stop was a boutique call 'Amore'. The inside of this fabulous boutique was glamorous and the cloths expensive! The attendants were nice and the collections exquisite. But with all this, Roxanne still carried a long face. Andrew couldn't stand it anymore. He was trying his best to distract her from reality but she wasn't complacent.

Maybe a dose of the truth will do the trick.

"She doesn't know." Andrew said, breaking the silence between them.

"Who?"

"Maria. She doesn't know Ethan is with you. Or that he lives with you. To her, you're far away in Korea. That's why my boss is doing everything Possible to hide the truth from her. But it's getting difficult."

Andrew's words spicked Roxanne's curiosity. Why was Ethan going through so much to keep the truth from Maria if he wouldn't even talk to her? Something didn't add up.

"Why though?"

"Listen Roxanne. I want you to understand something." Andrew held Roxanne's shoulders as he stared into her eyes. He had been wanting to say this for some time but didn't know how to. He cared about Roxanne and his boss as well. At the same time though, he couldn't deny his feelings for Maria. He was in a pinch. Stuck between three decisions. In the end, Andrew decided to do what's best for the people he knew most.

"I know my boss. He's a man who doesn't do things without a purpose. He's a man who's very intellectual and.-"

"What are you trying to say?" Roxanne asked as she knew Andrew was fond of derailing. It was difficult for him to express himself, especially when it came to something serious.

"Oh right. Um. What i mean is." He paused then took a deep breath. Unconsciously, he tightened his grip on her shoulders. Roxanne adjusted herself, "I need you to do your best in this marriage."

"Huh?"

"My boss doesn't usually do things like this. Not for anyone ever. For him to take this so seriously, it must be for a reason."

"He doesn't even talk to me." Roxanne said in a sad tone.

"I know. He has a problem with communicating with people. He isolated himself for a long time. I'm sure he's doing his best but he has a lot of things that he's hiding. He had a rough past."

"That's why he doesn't answer me?"

"I know it's hard and difficult, but It'll get better. Once you get to know him. Please just give it your best." Andrew urged her on.

"And Maria?" No matter what anyone said, Roxanne couldn't shake the feeling that she was doing something wrong to Maria. How could she try her best to get closer to someone else's husband?

Andrew sighed, "We'll handle that. For now you have to concentrate on being the best wife Ethan Alexander could ever have."

"The best wife?"
