Chapter two hundred and thirty
Davis left Kathryn's place to his house to take care of some things. Kathryn was alone at home. She had been pondering on what she would do. She resolved to choose meeting Davis' family over having a reunion with her classmates. While one was very necessary the other was something she could dispense with. Since she had their numbers, it wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't around for the reunion. Besides, she wasn't close with all of them. She could fix meetings with those she would still love to reconnect with. The family was first. Her uncle made her understand that. She wouldn't be like her parents. Her uncle was more of a role model to her than her parents.
Kathryn heard the sound of the doorbell and wondered if Davis was back.
Davis? So soon? Kathryn thought, moving toward the door. Davis had only left a couple of minutes ago, she wondered why he would come back so early.
Kathryn was surprised to see an unfamiliar yet familiar face in front of her the moment she opened the door.
"Are you Kathryn Williams?" Kathryn's heart raced a little when she heard his deep voice.
"Who are you?" Kathryn asked, looking at the tall man before her. He had a scar on his face which was quite conspicuous. Kathryn wondered how he got the scar. Could it be from an accident? She looked warily at him. His face looked somewhat familiar but she was sure that they had never met. There was no way she wouldn't remember a face like his if they had met before now. He had a hawkish nose, full eyebrows, a little freckles here and there on his face, his lips were full, and his face was somewhat long. He had brown hair and eyes.
"I don't think that is important for now," he said and Kathryn couldn't help feeling a little nervous. Her hands felt clammy and her face glistened with sweat. She hoped that Davis was around. Somehow, she felt unsafe, despite the large number of maids that she had in her house.
"Aren't you going to let me in?" He asked and Kathryn's heart raced all the more. Somehow, she felt it to her bones that this man was a dangerous one. She felt like he could cause harm to her now and here if he wanted to. Kathryn didn't know why, but she invited him into her house. She knew that this was probably the most ridiculous thing that she had ever done, but she found herself doing it. Was it because she was scared of him? Was it because she felt like he could harm her if he wanted to, even if she decides not to let him in?
"You're quite hospitable, Miss Williams." He said. Kathryn also noticed something else about him. He carried a stick around for support. It left her wondering if he had a bad leg. He was probably involved in an accident. That explains his stick and the large scar on his face.
"Where is your brother or should I say, cousin?" Kathryn froze. He knew that she had a cousin? Who was this man?
"Alexander Williams," he said again, confirming her fears.
Anyone can know Alexander and her. They were very popular, weren't they? But why did she feel like this man knew them well? She was getting the chills just from looking at him.
"I just thought of saying hi to you, Kathryn," he said, smiling at her. Kathryn forced a smile and it was so obvious that she was trying so hard to look comfortable in front of him.
"I would see you some other time," he said rising. He was a few metres away from her when he stopped in his tracks again.
"Right, Kathryn. I heard what happened to your ex-boyfriend, Jaden Park. That was such an unfortunate incident. He had to die protecting you. He must have really loved you so much." He said, smiling again.
Kathryn's eyes bobbed in fear, her throat went dry, and her heart caught in her throat. She gulped down saliva.
"Who are you? And how do you know so many things about me?" This time, Kathryn did not hide the fear she was feeling. He could hear it in her voice. He knew that she was scared to the bones.
"As I said earlier, that is not so important. What is important is what I know, not who I am," he grinned at her again. His smile was sardonic this time.
"I'll be seeing you again, Miss Williams," those were the last words he said before leaving her house.
