Melting Her Cold Heart

Cheated on by her fiancé weeks before their wedding, Sara, vowed to never love again. Men could not be trusted, especially with a woman's heart. She had made the mistake once, and that was more than enough for her. Never again would she make the same mistake to give her heart to another. But her resolve began to waver when she came across her new boss, Alexander Legend, a man whose reputation in his expertise and ruthlessness in business preceded him. Respected and feared by many, but to Sara, he was an annoying pest she wished she never met. Too persisted for her liking yet, she finds herself falling, slowly melting in his presence. Getting used to his stolen kisses and hugs and sometimes anticipating them. °°°°° Excerpts “You will fall for me, Sara. One day, I'll have your heart too,” Alex drawled. His voice had a seductive allure that had her heart racing. The fact that his hand was leisurely resting around her waist didn't help her either. “Try as much as you want to,” despite her body begging for his touch, Sara was determined to reject him today and any other day. She couldn't make the same mistake again. “You won't succeed in your seduction. NOT NOW. NOT EVER.” Alex smirked, kissed behind her ear and her body trembled, much to his satisfaction. That was all he needed to keep purising the stubborn woman in his arms right now. “We shall see, Miss Ambrose,” he cooed and then released her. He returned to his seat and asked in a professional tone. “What is my schedule for today?”

What if I do?

Alexander Legend, the business tycoon. A man with few words, limited expression, and one who is said to be cold, distant, and indifferent, especially to those of the opposite sex. Just uttered such foolishly cheesy words.

Sara couldn't believe it. Or maybe it was the words of her coworkers that raised her expectations?

"Hahahaha," Sara laughed out loud.

What the hell was he trying to do? Make her believe that he actually had feelings for her just to solidify her belief that he was scum. Who flirts with their female secretary on the very first day?

"You got me. Mr. Legend," she wiped off the invisible tear at the corner of her eye.

"I did, didn't I?" He asked as the corner of his lips curved up. "Now, would you accept the position? Be my secretary, Miss Ambrose. I promise I will treat you right."

Sara locked eyes with him. She couldn't vague him. Was he serious earlier or disappointed, did he said those words to make her relax? And why was he so different from the rumors? This man was not at all cold or indifferent. He had spoken a lot more than she had, and yet he was supposed to be the silent one.

"I am sorry, Sir. But, I know you have a secretary, so what is all of this about?" Sara asked. She wanted to find a reason to turn down this appointment. Whatever the reason was, or however small it may be, she will take advantage of it.

"I do," he replied with a nod. He sounded like there was nothing wrong with the fact he had a secretary, yet he was looking for another. From what she knew, that man, his secretary, came with him and then had been together for a long time. He couldn't just fire him after taking over Legend Corp and take another secretary, right?

"Then why am I here? Are you saying he is incompetent?" She asked, and he chuckled.

"My dear Sara, it is far from that," he said with a smile. He leaned forward, placed his elbows on the desk, and placed his chin on his knuckles while she raised a brow on askance. "He the most competent man I have ever worked with, and he had always been more than enough. He didn't need assistants and still doesn't."

"So…?" She pressed.

"Now that I know that you work here, I want to keep you close," he replied as his gaze became even more tender.

'WHAT?!' Sara blinked when she heard that. Was this man playing games with her or what?

"I wasn't joking when I said I chose you because you are you," he said as if he was able to hear her thoughts.

Sara smiled, pushed the seat back, and stood up. "It was meeting you, Mr Legend. But our interaction ends here. Oleaee be kind enough to accept my resignation," she turned around, ready to leave when he spoke, and she stopped.

"I do not accept it, Sara," he stood up, walked around his desk and came to stand behind her. Sara's instincts told her to run out of there, but she couldn't. She didn't want to appear weak and intimidated. "One of the clauses to your contract is that you can't work anywhere else while your contract with us still exists, and I have not accepted your resignation. What will you do?"

Alex had to fight to urge to touch her and keep his hands by his side. It was much too early, at least for her. He couldn't touch her, not yet. He was certain she had already branded him as a playboy, a womanizer to the core, but he didn't care. That belief will change sooner than later.

"You will interfere with my life?" She asked. He held her and clenched her fist and knew another misconception had been formed in her head.

But…

"What if I do?" He asked rather than clearing it up.

At his question, Sara turned around, furious that he even had the guts to say such words. But her expression paused after meeting his playful smirk and gentle gaze. 'The hell?!' she exclaimed but only in her mind.

"Sara," he called, his tone as gentle as his gaze. "I want you by my side. Please be my secretary. You can make demands, anything."

How is this man said to be a Successfull business man again? Sara asked inside her head. He was begging an employee to stay and be his secretary despite his defiance and outright rejection.

"Why do you want me by your side?" She asked. Mr. Legend, you and I have never met before and we owe each other nothing so why?"

'If only you knew' Alex thought but he smiled at her. He couldn't tell her the truth yet but he could tell her something much more believeable. "I am not familiar with everything here and neither is Kai. I need someone who is by my side. I prefer having you here than anyone else," he told a half lie.

"You and I know that's a lie," Sara uttered but he tilted his head innocently to the side and she sighed. "Six months."

"Huh?" Alex was confused. "Six months…what?"

"I will be your secretary for six month. That should be enough to get familiar with environment. After that…" He spoke interrupting her.

"then you'll go back to a much lower rank as PR employee. Wouldn't that be degrading?" He asked and she frowned. "Stay as my secretary, permanently," Alex was in no way giving her the idea that she would walk away after a little while. She was his reason to return to this city's Business and taking over the company was nothing but an excuse.

"What I do after that is none of your business," Sara said although she agreed that it would be degrading. Jocelyn will definitely gloat over her at that time.

"So do you accept?" He asked as she wanted to smack his head.

Did he hear a thing she said or not?
