"You," the word rolled out his tongue, bounced through the walls of the room and landed in everyone's ears
Rowan's gaze remained fixated on a particular place, with his index finger pointing in that same direction. He had a smirk on his face as everyone turned in the direction he was pointing, and he knew just how much she did not like attention.
Amy just like everyone around with her head slightly raised, but when she found no one stepping up, she raised her head. Her hers widened in shock. He was pointing at her. Amy had not noticed the gap that was before her after Sophia walked away from the group and went towards him.
The other girls, for some reason, did not deem it fit to cover up the space, much to her disapproval now. She sighed.
Now, why was he calling her? She thought. She hopes he would rather not disgrace her in front of everyone. She apologized, did she not?
Rowan's wicked smile remained on his face as his index finger moved while he spoke again, "Come here" before placing his hand in his pockets
Amy at that moment felt the action called walking difficult. Everyone's eyes were now on her, even though most of the stares were from the girls and looked like glares, she did not like the attention anyhow. With hesitance, she moved towards him and stopped an arm's length away from him, but suddenly, he grabbed her by the shoulders and began spinning her around, checking her sides.
"What's your name?" he asked once he was done checking her out
"A-amelia" she stuttered
"So Amelia, you were the one that spilt water on me isn't it?" he asked
She nodded with her gaze dropped as a gasp went around the room. "It was a mist-"
Before she could speak more, he cut in. "William" he called out.
The girls in the room stiffened, a peal of laughter at Rowan's action as the male interviewer beside him came forward and gave a slight bow. "Yes sir" he added.
With a strange glint in his eyes, Rowan spoke while staring coyly at Amy, who had her eyes on the ground. "Get her something else to wear. She looks like a pauper." Amy raised her head in surprise "No assistant of mine would look like they are being forced" he added before turning around and leaving the room.
Amy and everyone in the room except William stared at his back as he walked away and only stopped once he was out of sight. The other girls turned to Amy, who was still staring at the path he just walked away from, with her eyes still wide in shock.
With the number of glares she was receiving, if stares could kill, then Amy would have been long dead, buried and even rotten in the grave. "So does that mean she gets the job?" one of the girls said with resentment in the word 'she'.
"I think so" William replied with a smile, "That would be all girls. Miss Amelia, please follow me" he said walking out the door not minding whether she heard him or not.
Amy stood still, dumbfounded. What just happened? She finally got the job! She screamed in her head with excitement, but he chose her!
That mean man picked her! She thought with annoyance.
Why did he pick her? To torture her for ruining his suit. But she apologized and wanted to help.
Her legs, which had followed William's instruction without minding if she was in or not, stepped into a room after William. He spoke again, snapping her out of her mental shock while gesturing around. "Well Miss Amelia, this is the dressing room"
Amy's eyes went around the room. It was a walk-in closet. It was painted white with shoe racks and four wardrobes on different sides of the room with a hanger at the side. A dressing table relaxed on a wall with a mirror hanging above it. On the dressing table lay different accessories that Amy was sure to cost so much. She was not a makeup person but Sonia, her friend was, and she had all the information on them.
"Pick any clothes from the wardrobes and matching shoes," William said, walking to the door, but before he left he added, "You have thirty minutes, you have a meeting with Mr Rowan in an hour"
Once the door was shut, leaving her alone in the room, Amy finally let her child loose. Her mouth was almost on the floor. She walked to the dressing table and opened each of the makeup gadgets to have a closer look at them.
She went over to the wardrobes and was stunned. They were all branded clothes. In her dreams, she never thought she would be able to wear any of those. She had clothes, but it was mostly pass-me-down clothes from either her mother, her aunties, her grandmother, or her cousins.
Ring! Ring!
A buzzing sound resonated through the room and Amy quickly took out her phone from her bag, answering it without having to look at the caller ID twice as the customized ringtone already gave it out. "Amy, what's up? Did you get the job, or should I come over?" Sonia's voice came through the phone.
"I got the job," Amy said flatly
"That's good news" Sonia screamed over the phone "You don't seem excited" she added, sensing the distress
Amy briefly explained what occurred before her present position and for a moment Sonia was also gloomy, then when she heard the name Rowan Ace, she lost it. "Rowan Ace? Oh my God!" she screamed, "That's a big superstar in the movie world"
"So?"
"So it is a good thing. Even if he was mean, it's not that bad because it's Rowan Ace baby. You know what, get dressed and go meet him. Act all good alright because I'm getting an autograph"
"Are you even listening? He is a meanie" Just after the words rolled out of her mouth, she heard a husky voice behind her.
"I'm waiting for you and trash-talking me"
