Aden’s biggest dream is to join the big leagues, the FPV mecha drone racing league.
The evening sky blending with the ambers of the sun and sapphire glare. Soaring through the air with the feathered birds. Being able to fly made my heart beat with furious velocity and my body was one with the force of wind. It was like it could last forever and never end. Suddenly a high pitch sound beeping three times turning my interface red saying only ten percent battery left.
"Darn, that much time passed already" I said to myself with a cold feeling going down my chest.
I put the gps on auto home pilot and took off the black bulky head cover which had six small blunt rods. The screen glass inside was glaring as I noticed looking at my own face looking at me.
"ADEN!Aden! Come inside dinner is ready" My mom yelled so gracefully as the air outside filled with tangy lemon and cooked fish as she opened the door.
"Alright mom, give me a sec, I'm putting my things away" I said as I go to retrieve the four winged rotor connected to a hard gloss plastic chassis with a camera in the middle. I grabbed the bag that was next to me where I was sitting that had fixed compartments to put my equipment. As I put my equipment in, I zipped the bag, then wind picked up calmly and I was left drowning in the recent memories of the emerald plains and sapphire sky when I was free above reality.
"Hey mom, what's for dinner" I said as I passed the front door with the fresh aroma of lemon and fish hit me like the free winds of the sea.
"We're having seasoned salmon with lemon sweetie, also broccoli" she said having a light grin
"We hadn't had that in a while, must be a special occasion" I said wondering
"Well of course, you're about to finish your junior semester"she said
"Finals are next week"
"You better keep up with your studies or you're not gonna go to that event you been asking about all year"
"Don't worry mom, I'm going to ace them" I said with every ounce of ego I have in my bones.
"Why won't you get your dad from upstairs, dinner is ready" she said as she turns off the oven and stovetop.
Passing the fully prepped dinner table by the living room and kitchen. The creaking in the hard wooden steps smeared my ears with wariness and rushed up realizing how they crackle more as I go. I took a quick detour to my room on the right. The wooden surface of the desk with metal gizmos and tools were bright showing with the light reflecting off them. My workshop was cluttered with pieces of parts, and clothes were piled in one corner of the room. I quickly placed my bag on the chair by my desk that looked like a race car seat.
I swiftly made my exit from room and made my way across the hall. I glanced at my dads door and noticed it was slightly open and i wondered if he was ok.
"hey dad, dinner is ready" i said carefully through small veiw between the door.
"ill be on way son, let me finish putting these numbers and sketches together" he said in a slight panic. I saw sketches of buildings and equations in the distance from peaking. he was scuffeling the papers together and slowly closed his laptop. i backed away from the door and made my way down the stairs. I was hit with a soft steam of air rising and filling my lungs. It was an overwhelming feeling smelling my moms cooking which never got old. My dad just got out the door when i got down the stairs and still was in his work clothes from earlier.
After we ate dinner,I couldn't stop thinking about the big event this summer as I sat outside under fading black sky and sliver dots shining down. My dad was always busy and my mom has her own bakery in town. With school ending, it's the perfect time to go and see the thrill with my own eyes. The giant quad-copters go in tremendous high speed and in inconsistent terrain. It was held near the mountains every year. One day...maybe if I am good enough....I'll race
coming soon
