The Table Had Been Flipped

Chapter 2 - The Table Had Been Flipped

"..!"

White-grey eyes opened wide, trembling, as it looked left and right.

Flickering memories and thoughts passed by in great number flooded the woman's head. To the point of physically hurting her.

"Huh? What's this?"

A memory not of her own even went into her head only to be remembered in disgust.

"What the f-!"

She stopped herself. It was a memory where she, no, someone's else... someone else had received the hand extended to them by a familiar man.

The man had black hair and green eyes.

'It was so familiar but I can't quite place it...'

As the lady grumbled in thought, her head unconsciously turned towards one of the walls of the room as if on instinct. Seeing the painting of a man on the wall, a name flew in her memories.

"Ah, right. That man was the emperor, Kidian Murdine..."

The woman with white-grey eyes chuckled as if she was in a quiz game and won.

But only when she became silent for a moment did she realize the second sense of incongruity she felt. "This.. why is Kidian Murdine's painting in my room...?"

She flipped her head almost maniacally and observed the room she was in.

Not familiar.

Not familiar at all.

 And-

An ominous strand of white hair fell on her face as she whipped her head back to the painting.

The lady paused as another surge of memory passed by.

It was more like someone's words.

<Thanks to you, I can now control the last realm of magic.>

<As my soul is enhanced as the Great Witch, I won't let you kill him. have a contract to uphold after all...>

<But I won't forfeit you, Sequentia. Let's live normally from now on, okay?>

The lady with white hair and eyes ran towards a nearby closet, she knew or rather had remembered from someone else's memory that there was a mirror there.

Once she flipped the door, a mirror came into view. And not just that, but also her face and body.

<White hair>

<White eyes>

<Taller and sexier body>

<I'm pretty but I want an even prettier face! HAHAHAHA!>

She could almost hear her past self roaring with laughter as she created an ideal homunculi that embodies her hopes and dreams.

Sequentia looked at the eyes that was almost like hers, younger, but definitely Constance.

"You fucking wench...!"

She clenched her fists and punched the mirror. Breaking it into tiny fragments, her hand wasn't even cut at the emotional strike she dealt to the mirror.

"Oh my! Our lady!"

A flock of maids ran inside and pulled Sequentia- no, Constance out of harm from the fragments of glass. "Miss, are you alright? What happened? Did a rodent pass by and scare you? Hey you! Check the room!"

The maids immediately led Constance outside the room and took care of her.

Before Sequentia could react, she had already been dragged with caring hands into a lounge. A maid was massaging her hands as white as porcelain as if trying to calm her nerves. She was even served lavender tea and a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.

Sequentia watched as the people around her took care of her body, of Constance, and nodded inwardly.

'This feels nice I could get used to this.'

As if nothing bothered her, Sequentia reached out for the cookies and ate three in a minute.

'The tea doesn't go well with it much but it's still good...'

The Great Witch in the body of Constance pointed to the person who massaged her left hand, "Hey. Next time, you should pair cookies with milk or hot chocolate."

"Yes, miss!" That maid immediately left with the empty plate of cookies and another maid continued to massage her hand, with the right hand free from not eating nor drinking tea, another maid also swooped in and massaged it.

Sequentia unconsciously smiled.

The ache from her head disappeared, replaced by a calm lull.

It was so calming that she could let her memories merge and destroy her past Great Witch memories...

"..!"

Sequentia took her hands back from the maid and stood up in surprise.

'Why does it feel like something's actively shoving me into this life?'

As she become suspicious of her own mind, she snapped her finger. "Someone answer me. What's the date today? I-I need to know for... finance.. things?"

And as if her reason was valid enough, or they just didn't care no matter the reason she'll say, the maid who initially dragged her to this room finally came back with a smile and an answer. "It is the Year 2019 the 2nd of April, my lady."

"Ah, you're Lydia.." Sequentia nodded and trusted her words.

Lydia tilted her head in slight confusion at those words. But she did not get a reply to her questioning gaze as Sequentia thought in silence.

The headmaid, Lydia, in the memories she received from the body of Constance was someone trustworthy and ultimately a neutral person. Unbiased in the matters of the royal family.

Even when Kidian Murdine, the second son of the past emperor, surpassed and ruled against his older brother and former crown prince as well as the child she took care of since birth, Lydia remained unbiased.

It was only when Constance captured the heart of Kidian Murdine and raised her as his empress did Lydia become swayed into a side.

When Constance and Kidian had an argument regarding politics, Lydia would side with the lady of the household.

Even in 2022 there was a rumor that Lydia just didn't like taking care of boys and preferred to take care of girls, usually flaunting and exhibiting how amazing of a noble lady Constance was in the palace.

'This woman also...'

She was executed in the winter of 2022. The knights made a sudden inspection of everyone's quarters and they found a band of letters detailing how Lydia and anonymous persons wanted to throw Kidian off of his power.

Weirdly so the memory regarding this was not from Constance.

But from Sequentia herself.

She still clearly remembers when Constance went into the Eldritch Woods despite running away from home on her own two feet, only to come back and beg Sequentia to save Lydia even if she had to drag her off the gallows forcefully.

Of course Sequentia did not help her.

<Why should I do you a favor when your life is already itself?>

<You won't come back to me even if I save the maid, right?>

<Ah, I should give my blessing to you after running away from home.>

<I hope you never come home and not regret your decisions.>

Sequentia swallowed bitterly in the body of Constance.

'My, my how she flipped the table indeed. To think I'm now in the body of the runaway...'

But even if she could go back to that life she wouldn't save this maid!

Ever-!

"Ah, Lydia! You're too good for me! You're an angel, I swear! If you need any help, just say the word and I'll flip the world for you!" Sequentia chuckled in Constance's body while eating the blackout cake Lydia handmade for her. It was oozing in chocolate. Just how Sequentia loves it.

'Alright, I guess this maid is worth saving in this life. Yes, yes.'

"I heard the lady wanted milk for cookies, so for a chocolate cake and because you love chocolate, then bring out the chocolate milk!" Lydia chuckled softly as the butler came in with a pitcher of chocolate milk.

And the day ended with everyone sharing the cake and chocolate milk as Sequentia offered it.

-----

"Wow, that was good. This life is too good." Sequentia smirked as she watched the moon outside the window, "If I knew life would be too good as an empress I would've taken Constance place myself."

As she was about to laugh at that thought, she paused.

Her face turned serious in the drop of a hat.

"Right. Someone also wanted to take that child's place and was murdered by the people she loved." Sequentia clicked her tongue.

However there was one thing bothering her.

If her own memory serves right, this place was not the palace of the royal family.

"The servants also call me 'Miss' and 'Lady'. Lady can be anyone in the noble household but why? Constance was an orphan and found by Kidian after discovering her fake healing magic. As for miss, it's for single ladies..."

The family painting of the royal family Murdine on the door was definitely weird.

If this body or life of Constance had not yet been married, then why would she be hung up on the royal family to the point of hanging up their family painting?

Also if her memory serves right...

"Didn't Kidian make Constance an empress as soon as he found her?"

Creepily so there was no memory of Constance ever becoming a noble lady first.
