Chapter 13

I honestly thought that Jayden had lost Brooklyn’s mom, that she had died in some sort of attack or something. I would never have imagined that she would have just walked away from him and their daughter. I don't understand why she would do something like that. Looking at Jayden while he told that story, the pain was so evident on his face. I wish I could take all of his pain away. The waitress came back with our order, and we started to eat. I took a minute to excuse myself to the restroom.

Heading back from the restroom, I see the waitress back at our table. I don’t understand why seeing as how we already had our food. I move close enough to hear what's going on but not be seen. I see her hand running up and down Jayden’s arm. He takes a minute to push her hand away. That just seems to embolden her, and she reaches for the back of his neck.

“I need you to stop touching me,” Jayden says while attempting to remove her hand again.

“Oh, come on. You're an attractive man…..and I don’t see a mark on you. Let’s get together and get to know each other better.” The waitress continues to run her fingers through his hair, and he gets increasingly frustrated.

Jayden grabs her wrists, and you can see his knuckles start to get white; he is gripping her so hard. “I told you to stop touching me,” Jayden says through clenched teeth. “I'm not at all interested in you or interested in knowing you. Whether I am marked or not is irrelevant. You are interrupting my outing, and you are really starting to piss me off.”

“Ooooooo…….I like when you get rough.” You can see the sparkle in the waitress’ eye and start to smell her arousal. I'm not sure if I should intervene or if I should see how this plays out.

That bitch is touching our mate.

I can see that, Kai.

What are you going to do about it? Let me out so I can rip her head off!

We are not doing that, Kai. It is not the time or place for that.

Grrrrr. Kai retreats to the back of my mind, upset that I will not do more about this situation.

“ENOUGH!” Jayden roars, and the waitress stumbles back a step or two. Jayden stands up and turns to the waitress. She was clearly surprised that he took that tone with her. I have had enough, and I don't want to see Jayden ruin this woman in front of these people. I saunter up to Jayden and place my right hand on his chest. I stroke his chest a few times, feeling the tension leave his muscles. I heard him let out a breath I don’t think anyone could guess he was holding.

“I would thank you for keeping an eye on my date,” I say to the waitress without looking at her, “but since I didn’t ask for your help, the thanks is not needed. I think it would be best if you step away and do not return. You can send someone else with the check.”

“Look, I don’t know who you think you are, but you don’t run me. I'm free to do whatever I like, and without a mark, he is….”

Before she can finish her sentence, I remove my hand from his chest, and it's quickly wrapped around her neck. I tighten my grip a bit, just enough for her to understand how serious I am. I slowly start to pull her body to mine while staring into her eyes. "You have done enough for today. The only reason your head is still attached to your body is because I don't want anyone to have to clean up your blood. He is MY mate…..mark or no mark, and I'm sick of you touching what is mine. If you want to live, you will keep your hands and eyes off my mate…..period!" The fear is evident in her eyes, and she has started to tremble.

"Alright now. I think she gets it, Lani. Let her down." Frank's booming voice killed the silent buzz that filled the air. I slowly loosened my fingers and lowered my arm. When I let her go, she quickly grabbed her neck and ran towards Frank. "You're just going to let her go?! She almost killed me!"

Frank turned to walk away. "You know, almost doesn't count." He snickered as he went on to the kitchen. Tears formed in the waitress' eyes, and she ran to the back. Jayden turned to me and caressed my cheek. All the tension left my body, and I sighed.

"Well, that was an eventful breakfast date," he chuckled. "I wonder what you have planned next."

A smile started to form on my lips. I took his hand, and we headed towards the door. "Why don't we find out."

None of the rogues returned from the two attacks, but I figured that would be the end result. They were easily expendable, and it was helpful to me to treat them as such. I know the note was dropped off, and Kehlani had no idea who sent it. It wasn’t that long ago that the rejection took place, but she was so arrogant that she couldn’t imagine there would have been repercussions; so stupid. The door of my office opened, and Rosie walked in. She was a she-wolf from the Summit Mountain pack. She foolishly believed that she meant something to me. Well, she did….she was a decent source of information.

“Ah my pet. I take it you have some news for daddy?”

Rosie gives me a shy look and lowers her gaze. “I think I may have something helpful.” She spoke in almost a whisper. I wouldn’t have heard her if I weren't a wolf. I get up from my desk and walk over to her. I lift her chin with my finger so that her eyes are on mine.

“Hmmm…..maybe I can get it out of you.” I let my finger trail down her neck and down between her breasts. She wasn’t bad looking, with nice tits and ass and full lips. She had green eyes and short blonde hair. If I were looking for someone, she could fit the bill though the issue would be that she is only an Omega. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that rank, but I would require a few levels higher. I could feel her breath getting heavier, and I took my finger and circled her nipples, first one, then the other. She let out a small moan, and I lowered my mouth to her neck. I started to kiss her lightly down to her marking spot. I then sucked that spot hard, which resulted in a sharp gasp. That made Rosie so wet; I could smell it in the air. I trailed my fingers down her body, grasping her ass. I trailed my fingers down the outside of her thigh, stopping at her knee. Once there, I trailed the inside of her thigh with my finger up to her core. She was wearing a short skirt, and I could feel her skin getting hot under my touch. I lifted her leg and pushed her panties to the side. Rosie grabbed onto my shoulders for balance.

I leaned down and got into her ear, “Tell me, little pet. Tell daddy what you have learned. Once you tell me, you can have your reward.” I run my finger across her nub and feel how wet she is. I draw small circles around her nub and hear her breathing get faster. I slowly push my index finger inside of her, and she moans loudly. Through breaths, she says, “A man….came to…..see her.” Rosie continues to moan and bounce on my fingers.

I whisper in her ear, “Who is this man? Tell me, pet...tell me who he is.” I start to lick her ear and move my tongue down to her neck.

“They….they say…...he is…..mmmmm…..he is….Jayden Winters…..mmmm….yes…..her...her……her mate…..” I immediately tense up and remove my fingers. Her mate?!

Malachi, where are you?

In my office, why?

I have news that I need to share. I'm on my way.

I ignore the whimpering of Rosie being left without a release and head down the hall to Malachi’s office. I knock on the door and walk in when told to. Malachi is in his office with her, the Luna.

“What is this news you have? It can’t be that the Alpha is running scared.”

“No. Not yet anyway,” I state. “It seems that she has a second chance mate. Someone by the name of Jayden Winters.”

“Hmmm…..that name does not ring a bell for me. Maybe I can look into it and see where he is from. I will let you know what I find Dominic.”

I bow to Malachi and walk out of his office. As I walk further away, I feel a hand on my shoulder. It’s her, the Luna.

“Yes, Luna, what can I do for you?” I ask through gritted teeth. She's not my favorite person, to say the least.

“It’s not what you can do for me, but what I may be able to do for you.”

I look at her, confusion written all over my face. What in the world could she possibly mean?

“I don't know what you and Malachi are up to, but I do know I can keep Jayden Winters out of your hair,” she purrs at me.

“Oh really? And just how would you be able to manage that?” I cock my head looking at her. There is something in her eyes that I can’t quite place, but she does look determined.

“Don’t you worry about that. Just leave him to me. I will definitely take care of it.” The Luna starts walking back to Malachi’s office. “Oh and Dominic, we can just keep this between us.”

I look at her and nod, staring as she walks back into the office. What the hell was that? Maybe she isn’t as useless as I initially thought. I head down the stairs to go outside. I'm angry that Kehlani has a second chance mate. If she thinks she will ride off in the sunset with this man while he is head of my pack, she is crazy. I will have my pack, and Kehlani will pay. With that, I shift into my wolf, running into the forest.
