Sophia ducked behind the boulders, pressing her back against the cool, rough surface. She gasped for breath, her hands instinctively cradling her swollen belly. Matthew crouched beside her a moment later, his eyes wild and his teeth bared.
"Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice rough with concern and anger.
Sophia shook her head. "No, I'm okay. The baby's okay."
Another arrow struck the boulder, sending bits of rock flying. Matthew cursed under his breath and risked a glance around their makeshift shelter.
"I can't see the shooter. They're well hidden," he growled in frustration.
Sophia's mind raced. Who would attack them like this, and why? The pack had enemies, sure, but to strike so boldly, so close to the heart of their territory…
