The sun had barely risen over the horizon when Alex found himself pacing the length of his quarters. Sleep had been elusive, evading him like a ghost in the night. His mind was a whirlpool of thoughts, each one pulling him deeper into the churning waters of uncertainty. Today, they would meet with the other alphas to discuss the alliance against The Shadow, and the weight of the world seemed to rest on his shoulders.
"You're going to wear a hole in the floor," Sara said from the doorway, her voice light but her eyes serious.
Alex stopped and looked at her, his heart calming slightly at the sight of her. "I can't help it. This meeting... it's everything. If we can't get them to agree, we're done."
Sara walked over to him and placed a hand on his arm. "We've faced worse. And we have something they don't—us, together."
He nodded, drawing strength from her words. "You're right. Let's go show them what we've got."
