*NOT A CHAPTER* just random thoughts
What if you were tossed into your favorite game but tens of thousands of years before the events of the game even happened something happened to Humanity. This is my take on mass effect. Imagine if instead of the asari being the first to reach the stars humans were but with knowledge left behind by the prothean and guided by one of the last protheans(Leader/scientist. Moral). Advance Humanity, male lead, dominate humanity, non-empire.
49,000 years ago humanity was given a chance to become something more. Luckily for me they took that chance. My name Is Jordan Smith and I'm in the mass effect universe.
49,000 years ago one of the last living Prometheans awoke from cryostasis on the planet Mars (How it's still called Mars is a mystery to me, just like a lot of things). He woke up and kick started humanity's progress, for the first 2,000 years he guided us from the shadow's. Then in 2237 G.A. he finally appeared to all of humanity. He told us his story, showed us how he's been helping to form our society and technology. Some people thought of him as a god, others felt ill at the thought that their actions weren't their own. However calmer minds thankfully prevailed and we trusted the one called Uplifter.
(Uplifters real name wasn't discovered as no mention of such a position existed in the Promethean Empire.)
By year 2289 G.A. humanity had finally come up with multiple avenues on FTL travel. Uplifter had shared immense amounts of information with Humanity during their stay on Earth. One such piece was of the reapers. Giant synthetic machines that wipe out all space traveling life in a constant cycle of 50,000 years.
So Uplifter advised them to come up with other ways of traveling alongside EeZo technology. I'm proud to say that humanity came up with multiple applicable technology trees. Fast forward about 47,000 years later and Humanity owns the Galaxy. A.I.'s were created and became citizens of the United Galactic Federation during the 3,000s. Nazara was found during the 19,000 and destroyed, the collectors were then dealt with 20 years later, using information recovered from Nazara. 2,000 years after that an identical Citadel was made over earth. A Dyson sphere was also put into construction around Sol.
Human development was rapidly evolving. Every human born after the 22,000's had natural biotics, stood on average at 6'5 had immense strength and can easily live for 400 years naturally. Digitization became a popular choice of death after multiple Dyson spheres were constructed leading to interconnected afterlives. The catalyst was found and promptly shut off during the mid 30,000. Humanity built life ships and sent them to other galaxies for fun. Alien life in the universe isn't disturbed until said species are space worthy.
Year 45,738 Asari are the first species to exit their own system. Upon first contact with the Asari they are lead to the citadel so that they may gain a better scope on the Galaxy. Over the next 1,500 years Asari are incorporated into the U.G.F. 200 years later salarians exit there star system. The Krogan are soon met and are guided down a more honorable path. Instead of fighting just to fight, humanity instills the honor code.

Long before the time of humanity, there was another race that ruled the Galaxy, The Protheans. However their pride was their downfall, and before their end a child was born to the last great house. This child would go on to do many great things. Win the Protheans many a battle and advance what remained of their technology far past it's resting point.
However when Harbinger takes a personal interest in him things start spiraling out of control. A devastating battle ensues and the Prothean loses. As his ship is exploding around him he rams himself into Harbinger for a final hurrah. Damaging the Billion old life form and having it run away. As the Protheans last breath ebb's away one of the ship he sent away returns and picks him up. With a heavily damaged body that is impossible to save, the Prothean Empire does something which they believe is the only way to save him. Months pass and The Prothean is reborn in a body of reaper metal with a mind of a synthetic.
The reborn Prothean fights for years more. However they see the inevitable, they understand that the war is almost lost. And so they look to the future on how to save the remaining people's lives. They start hiding away technology and Data wherever they can, but their main focus is on the world from whence he was once born, Earth. Thinking about the Humans that belong to this universe, he starts making plans upon plans. He starts hiding the Protheans that follow him, putting them in stasis. Scientists, Civilians, Warriors, Engineers and Children. He hides them deep underneath the red soil of the planet he knows as Mars, but the Protheans know as Savar. Saving as many of his people that he can.
Then he waits. 1000 years later he feels the last of the remaining becons go silent. The Reapers have left. And now he can inbrace the role of the Uplifter.
(This is something I would love to see played out. I just couldn't find anything like it while surfing the web, so I created something in my head and wrote down what I could. If anyone would like to make such a story, please by all means do so. I would more than likely, like to read it.)
