Lorene wanted to run, escape from the place before anything bad could happen but the side alley had just one way out and for that she had to climb a small stairs. She gulped knowing that going even two steps up would make her presence evident to the others. She stood there frozen, not even breathing hard and thanking heaven for carrying a cloth bag that wouldn't make any noise.
The footsteps only got louder and faster, and soon the sound of something crashing against the rough brick wall. She leaned against the other side of the same wall, covering her mouth as tight as possible, knowing the others were just around the corner breathing the same air. Lorene wanted to call the police but taking her phone out didn't seem to be a nice idea.
Her train of thought was cut into two when a loud scream blasted into the empty alley, even shaking the building. Lorene sucked in her cries, and her eyes widened as the scream continued but this time more painful. She slowly hugged the cover closer to her body and tip-toed to the end of the wall. The cold wind was making her teeth clatter but even that sound can gain attention.
"How many times did I warn you? I even showed you a warning by gifting you, your brother's finger. Was that not enough?" A man spoke, his voice loud and clear for her to understand.
Lorene's eyes widened more and her head spun at his words. Was she going to witness something terrible that night because of noodles? She practically stuck herself to the wall while trying to listen more knowing that would only invite her trouble. The conversation was basically one-sided as the other man could barely form words between his cries. She peeked to the side, after tucking her hair back just enough to get a glimpse of the scene.
"Stop crying, you are definitely not scared of me. You described me so well in the paper just like you have seen me. I really appreciate your fantasy but something in it was offensive."
Lorene could now see a silhouette standing right in front of her, a little far, and the back side of a man who was crawling away from the scary figure approaching him. She squinted her eyes to see his face clearer but the light from behind was almost blinding her. Lorene crouched down, making sure she would not be caught at all.
"P-please, le-leave me. I made a mistake."
"No no no, don't start with an apology. You know it doesn't work with someone like me, aigh? Anyways not after you drilled this iron rod into my heart." He sighed, a sadness lingering in his voice but she could clearly understand the sarcasm behind it.
Lorene kept her glare on him as he took another step, moving a little off from the light to get on his knees before the man. She could now clearly see the blood-dripping iron rod on his chest, his face covered with a mask. Lorene pulled away and gulped down, not knowing how long she could stay without screaming.
"Wait..what?" she asked to herself in mind, not understanding how someone can be alive after a stab like that.
"Was he a ghost? Someone with superpowers? Did anyone here die from a stab like this recently?" a lot of questions flooded her mind.
"See, how m-much blood I l-lost." the said man groaned and a screeching voice was heard when the iron rod was pulled out of his chest.
"I am s-so sorry. I d-didn't know it was y-you." the man cried, probably scared for his life because the rod could now penetrate back into his chest.
"Doing this to anyone is unacceptable until it is me. You know that too, don't you? I do not like when people make mistakes." He chuckled, the same as that of evil and nothing less.
"P-please, I b-beg to do anything for you. I w-will really d-do anything you ask me." He begged desperately, kicking his legs to move away.
"Again, you are making a mistake. A person like me....oops- a creature like me would never ask for anything that a human can do. What can a weakling like you do for me?"
"I w-will tell y-you who sen-sent me."
"I can smell him from you. His favorite cologne is lingering on you, boy. Don't be so silly."
With that, he pushed the iron rod into the other man's chest and he fell back on the ground in an instant without even making a slight noise. The stab would have been perfect that he died so quickly or the creature just wanted to end the suffering quickly. Lorene almost blasted seeing the incident but chose to maintain her composure as wanting to be the next victim wasn't in her plan at all. She had to reach back to Sienna.
The creature stood up, his eyes still on the lifeless body in front of him with a satisfied grin that she couldn't see but easily guess. Lorene had to wait till he leaves but hoped he would walk back instead of choosing the way, where she is hiding.
"I know someone is out there waiting for me to leave."
The deep voice spoke once more making her eyes widen and she accidentally dropped the cloth bag which she was hugging. Does that mean she was caught and he would kill her too? For her silly thought of taking an easy way to return? Lorene wanted to cry and her tears automatically ran down to her red cheeks.
"I am not in the mood for another kill so I had better want you gone before I reach there." He spoke again making her knees hit against each other.
"RUN. NOW." He growled and it was like a kick start for her because she hurriedly grabbed the bag and ran out, letting out silent sobs which she held in.
Lorene didn't care if anyone sees her or thinks she had done some crime because her only aim was reaching her house and locking the door behind her. She just witnessed a murder, that too by an unknown man who possess some supernatural power. Is anyone going to believe her? Even she wouldn't believe it if she tells it to herself.
