At night in Rio de Janeiro, occasional barking could be heard. Bruce, who was sleeping lightly, suddenly woke up. The familiar barking gradually faded away, and Bruce, who had been hunted for years, immediately realized that he had been exposed.
Quickly getting up, he arranged a dummy on the bed, took out a rope, and prepared to escape. Several soldiers stood at the door, using mini cameras to observe the movements inside. Seeing the figure lying on the bed, they breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as they were about to examine it carefully, a black dog entered the door and bumped its head against the unfamiliar object. The dog quickly retreated, growling defensively.
Emil Blonsky walked quickly to the front door, kicked it open, and held a submachine gun, firing a burst of shots towards the bed. Realizing something was wrong, he lifted the sheets and indeed found a dummy. Bruce, who was halfway through climbing out, trembled at the sound of gunshots upstairs.
Martina, who was taking a shower, came to the window and saw a shadow outside. Instinctively, she screamed, but Bruce urgently gestured for her to be quiet.
After realizing that it was Bruce, Martina stopped her subsequent screams, reached out to support him, and led him into the room. Blonsky, who came to check by the window, looked at the swinging rope and the densely packed alleys, feeling very displeased. He casually shot the black dog, tranquillizing it.
Fearful of General Ross searching the entire building, Bruce hurriedly bid farewell to Martina. Just as he ran out of the alley, Blonsky, who led the search team, spotted him. Relying on his familiarity with the terrain, Bruce managed to shake off the pursuers.
General Ross ordered his men to slowly tighten the encirclement, ensuring that even if Bruce was familiar with the terrain, he would be trapped in a specific location and unable to move.
Bruce happened to encounter a group of hooligans bullying Martina, and in his desperation, he ran into the soda factory he was most familiar with. With their knowledge of the factory, the hooligans quickly found Bruce's hiding spot.
At that moment, the military personnel also arrived. Bruce, in a state of anxiety, lost control of his emotions. His body suddenly grew in size, and he broke the heart rate monitor on his wrist. Blonsky, looking through the night vision goggles, exclaimed.
After a fierce battle, Bruce smashed through the wall of the factory and ran towards the distant forest. Except for Blonsky, the entire team of operatives was killed.
"This is his computer. General, shouldn't you tell me what it is? If he hadn't suddenly appeared, we would have caught Bruce!" Blonsky threw the computer on the table and stared intently at General Ross. The female assistant next to him turned on the computer and picked up a cut-out newspaper, her expression slightly changing. Blonsky quickly took the newspaper, his voice low.
"Is this his girlfriend? Is she helping Bruce?"
General Ross reached out and took the newspaper, looking at the photo of his daughter. He carefully folded it and put it in his pocket, speaking calmly, "She has nothing to do with this. They broke up a long time ago. That monster is Bruce. What I'm about to tell you is classified. Are you sure you want to hear it, soldier?"
"Yes, General! I have participated in countless battles, big and small, and have never failed. I want to understand my opponent!" Blonsky affirmed, and Ross nodded, ordering the team to return. Blonsky didn't continue to inquire, as it was obviously not the place to discuss military secrets
. After returning to the base, Ross led Branski to a factory.
"You must have heard of the country's infantry weapons development program."
"Super soldiers?" Branski murmured softly, with the image of Steve Rogers coming to mind. He was the first known successful supersoldier.
"Exactly," General Ross nodded, confirming Branski's guess. He spoke in a calm tone, "I ordered them to restart the experiment. Banner didn't know what they were researching. He only thought it was radiation resistance. In the end, he relied too much on his judgment and his body mutated. Our development of the super serum also came to a standstill."
Blonsky nodded slightly, his interest in the so-called serum growing stronger. General Ross looked at his expression, and a slight smile formed at the corner of his mouth. In a low voice, he continued,
"I have a way to make you stronger..."
Blonsky eyes lit up, and the image of Banner's transformation appeared in his mind. That kind of power was what he had always dreamed of. After signing a series of confidentiality agreements, Blonsky finally got his wish and injected the serum. Although the dosage was small, the level of enhancement was still considerable.
After a long journey, Banner returned to Virginia and looked at the familiar campus, memories of the past flashing through his mind. Besides obtaining research data, he also wanted to see how Betty was doing.
He strolled to the entrance of the Biological Research Institute, looking at the familiar building. Banner felt a faint sense of anticipation. Over the years, he had used Betty's photo as motivation to prevent himself from being controlled by the Hulk. He had fantasized countless times about their reunion, but now that he was faced with the real person, he felt somewhat awkward. He didn't know how he should approach her.
Just then, Betty appeared in his direction with a surprised smile on her face. Banner lowered his head and hid behind a big tree, feeling pleasantly surprised. He hadn't expected that even after all these years, she could still recognize him.
Just as he gathered the courage to reveal himself and acknowledge Betty, another figure walked slowly toward her. Watching the two of them embrace, Banner felt a pang of pain in his heart.
Banner gazed at the direction they left with a complex expression, sighed, and then went to the laboratory building where he used to work. He stood outside, observing the security guards checking identification badges, immediately abandoning the idea of sneaking in.
After wandering around for a while, he arrived at a pizza shop near the school. The owner excitedly embraced Banner, babbling about what had happened after he left. When Betty was mentioned, the owner instinctively covered his mouth.
"She has a boyfriend now, right?" Banner said with a complicated expression. "I saw them today..."
"Well... I heard he's one of the top neurosurgeons, and he's a decent guy..."
"Alright," Banner shook his head, not wanting to discuss this topic any further. He hesitated for a moment and said, "I need a place to stay for a few nights..."
"No problem, you can use the empty room upstairs," the owner generously pointed to the second floor. The next morning, disguised as a pizza delivery person, Banner carried a pizza and arrived at the entrance of the laboratory building. He walked slowly to the security room and said softly, "Hey, buddy. Delivery for the fifth floor!"
"Everyone on the fifth floor has left!" the security guard closed the newspaper and spoke with a hint of doubt. Banner took off his hat and said dejectedly, "Oh my, I'll be in trouble if I don't get paid... Please, let me go up and take a look..."
Seeing the security guard's official demeanor, Banner whispered, "I happen to have an extra pizza. It's on me!"
After a fruitless search, Banner didn't find the research data he was looking for. He notified Mr. Blue of the news and then returned to the pizza shop to pack his things.
