Unsatisfactory Answers

Author: As I write this story, I'm starting to see some slight similarities and parallels between my story to the Warhammer 40k universe. My MC similar to the Big E (The Emperor) has tremendous knowledge and power but instead of personal development, he seeks the improvement of humanity.

I think I will lean a bit more toward those parallels. Tell me what you think.

Reed sighed, "Progress should be gradual. Look at what happened when we discovered nuclear power. We first thought of making bombs and almost destroyed the world with them countless times. It took us a decade to use nuclear power as an energy source after already having used it as a bomb.

Think about it, if someone came up with a medicine that cures all diseases, the first thought for anyone is, that'd be great. But if you think deeper you'll see how devastating it would be for the economy. Everyone in healthcare-related jobs would suddenly become jobless and the whole economy would crash."

"I get that. But what if we could guarantee a minimum living standard for everyone first? There are enough resources to go around to achieve that result. And if there is a guarantee like that, we could naturally mitigate all the negatives that could come from rapid scientific progress.

I believe that given a choice, people would choose a healthier and longer life with basic living standards, which will also be higher as we progress, rather than the life they are living right now."

Reed shook his head, "Your ideals are nice but the thing is, by even attempting this you are stepping on the interests of some very powerful people. I don't think they will let you take away their money and influence even if your intentions are noble."

I chuckled. It was funny to me that this guy sitting in front of me, who is known to be the smartest of the humans, someone who found and explored an antimatter universe and even fought crazy monsters, is avoiding confrontations with some old capitalist men holding on to power for dear life.

This is where most 'heroes' fail for me. They are so very afraid of change. They keep fighting to keep the status quo when they could go for something better. These powerful beings follow orders from some old people just because they are heroes and heroes live by principles.

They would rather avoid interactions with the government if they feel that their powers would cause any problems. Adam Brashear, also known as the Blue Marvel, is a superhero from the 50s and is a prime example of this.

He was a veteran who served the country even before he got his powers, and when he got his powers, which were admittedly very strong, he continued helping people and saving them from threats. But he still followed the government's orders.

But one day when his mask was torn off during a battle, he was revealed to be a black man. How could America in the 50s accept a black man who can tank a hydrogen bomb as a superhero? They didn't want the black community to find strong backing in the face of Blue Marvel. It would only make their voices louder.

So, the then president of the US J. F. Kennedy personally asked Adam Brashear to retire and hide away. They even made him fall in love with a secret agent just so they could monitor him if he would do anything. And he did nothing as people of his color fought for their rights.

He chose to follow ridiculous orders and stay away from the so-called 'stability' of the country when he could have used some of that fear those in the government already had toward him and helped gain the rights of his people.

Sure, intimidation using their power is not something a 'hero' would do. But your people are facing racism and don't even have the same rights as the white people, do you want to be a 'hero' or be a cause for a positive change?

Instead, it is villains like Lex Luthor who enforce change by getting into the ruling positions. Even if their intentions are not good, the villains understand that if they want things to go the way they want, they have to have some say in the government. Kingpin campaigned for New York's mayor to rule over it.

"Sorry, I just thought it was funny that Mr. Fantastic would avoid politicians. Why don't you just endorse a better politician though? An endorsement from a superhero would get anyone elected right?" I knew it was rude of me but thankfully Reed didn't seem to care.

"I don't want to involve myself in the murky waters of politics. It's just not for me. My place is inside a laboratory. Let's end this topic here for now." I expected the answer from Reed.

I nodded and then looked at Franklin, "You should find something to restrain that power inside him. It might cause problems as he grows up."

The one or two-year-old Franklin Richards looked up at me as if noticing my gaze. I could swear I felt two pairs of eyes staring at me at that moment. It was probably adult Franklin looking back at the past or something.

Sue was instantly worried and asked, "What do you mean? What's wrong with Franklin?"

"I know someone who can see through the DNA and your son is confirmed to be a mutant and he is already showing signs of increased psionic activity as his age which shows his potential as your kid but also poses a danger to himself and those around him if not controlled."

I explained the situation plausibly. In my mind I was thinking, if little Franklin had some nightmare that triggered his powers, he might erase the earth in his fear. You can't expect a kid to be conscious about his power use.

Reed had a serious face as he looked at his son. "Thank you for telling us. We will run some tests and see if we can make some power dampeners for him."

I reminded them of it so now what they did with it was their own responsibility. I asked another important question, "Now that you know your son is a mutant, does that mean you will show some public support to the mutants? I know you non-mutant heroes are on the fence on this issue."

I could see that Sue wanted to agree but Reed spoke first, "Yes, the situation is very delicate. We have always supported the mutants but we can't claim that in public as that might bring about many implications. Social unrest would be the least of our concerns at that time."

Yup, they don't want social unrest and turmoil so they will not stand up publicly for a subset of humans who are facing constant persecution. They will just stand by and watch, hoping that the X-men are enough to save their kind.

I left the Baxter Building with a better understanding of what position the Fantastic Four would take in the coming days of great change. I knew X-men's position already. Now I only needed to know what the Avengers had to say.

Although, from what I have seen of Captain America in the interviews and press, he probably has the mentality of never giving up and saving as many as he can.

"I studied those magic symbols and runes from that sorcerer you brought here last time and now I have a new inspiration." Cypher, Doug Ramsey, was very excited and dragged me to his lab to show me something cool.

I had introduced him to Dr. Strange who was intrigued by Cypher's powers so Cypher got to learn some magic languages. And today he was unveiling his new creation based on that.

Cypher then pulled me to his workstation and showed me some constantly changing symbols. He then proudly declared, "This is a language that continues to change at all times. It is similar to evolution but the language is just changing without going to a higher state.

I got the idea from those magic symbols that keep changing. I thought if the language of the program itself is in flux, who else but I would be able to decode it? Well, some people with weird powers might be able to do it but we couldn't stop them anyway."

I nodded. It was a novel idea. If a program changes its language like those magic symbols, it would be almost impossible to decipher for most.

"But how would that work when the amount of processing required on the language itself would be so huge? Plus there is the question of how will the machine itself interpret the language since it's so complicated."

Cypher had a face that said, I was expecting that question. He answered, "It's simple, we only use this language for our core programs and make a supercomputer that has not yet existed in this world. A magic supercomputer. I talked with Dr. Strange and he thinks it might be possible.

We can create a much faster and scaled-down supercomputer that would be able to act as a dumbed-down digital clone of ours when we digitize your consciousness into an AI. It will be the most powerful and secure computer on this planet running the most powerful AI."

The thought of a magic computer was really tempting to me. How can the magic be leveraged in computing? Maybe we can create a new and improved data storage system that can store a lot of data. Or we could move past the silicon-based or even the theoretical carbon transistors and build a better CPU? The possibilities with magic are endless.
