Chapter 29. The Brotherhood of Assassins.

"The Brotherhood of Assassins?"

Jessica looked confused.

Of course, she couldn't have heard of the name because before Ryan spoke, there was no such thing as the Brotherhood of Assassins.

That's right, the Brotherhood, in Ryan's words, was actually the same as the previous Peng Lai he mentioned.

As for the time this Brotherhood was established, well, just now.

And for why he didn't continue to use Peng Lai's name, it was because he focused on what [Wesley Gibson] could do, whether it was [Curved Ballistics] or [Adrenaline Acceleration], it didn't match the legends of Peng Lai Island, an obviously eastern faction. If he insisted on putting them together, it would be easy for people to spot the flaws.

So, Ryan thought that instead of linking [Wesley Gibson] with Peng Lai island, it would be better to create a new organisation. As the saying goes, if there were one, there would be two, if there were two, there would be three, and if there were three, well ... okay, that's a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, Jessica was at a loss when she heard 'The Brotherhood of Assassin from Ryan's lips.

It was a normal reaction, and Ryan wasn't surprised; it was the next time for him to show his true acting skills.

In the antique shop, Ryan deliberately moved his face about 15 degrees downwards, shrouded in shadow, and then lowered his voice to a low, mysterious tone, "The Brotherhood is a very old organisation, dating back to the ancient days of Rome. It's an organised group of assassins that has always been able to rise from the flames despite numerous attempts at annihilation."

"Then why haven't I heard of it?" Jessica raised a slender eyebrow. She was no fool; in fact, as a private detective, even if she hadn't done well in Hell's Kitchen, she still had the proper keenness and skepticism. This could be seen in the amount of reputation points Ryan got.

"That's because the Brotherhood's tenets binding them."

"Tenets?"

"The Brotherhood's three tenets are, first: Keep your blade away from the flesh of an innocent. Second: Hide in plain sight. Third: Never compromise the Brotherhood. These principles inform every aspect of the daily lives of the Brotherhood members, as does their struggle to achieve harmony in all things. Through political and strategic assassinations, the Brotherhood fulfilled its duties, hoping to save thousands of people by killing one person. They believe it was a fight for the benefit of those who do not have the ability, resources, or knowledge to speak out against those who abuse their power."

"It sounds like a superhero organisation." Jessica grimaced. She wasn't a big fan of superheroes these days.

"What about you? Are you also part of this so-called Brotherhood?"

Although Jessica was surprised by the mysterious Brotherhood, she didn't forget her initial doubts.

"I ..." In the face of Jessica's question, Ryan shook his head and then bowed his head with an obviously bitter smile, "I'm very eager to join the Brotherhood, but unfortunately, the Brotherhood's internal rules are very strict, and I'm not good enough to be an assassin for the Brotherhood. So, for now, I'm just the point of contact for the Brotherhood here, helping the Brotherhood gather information and contact members."

"After all that, how can you prove that the Brotherhood, as you call it, is real? Perhaps it's all just a lie that you came up with to fool me? "

Jessica propped herself up against the counter, leaning slightly forward to look at Ryan straight in the eyes.

Killgrave's appearance made Jessica suspicious of what was in front of her. After all, the other man was a demon who could manipulate people's minds and bodies.

In the face of Jessica's aggressive questioning, Ryan didn't reply with further words but simply raised his gun to her face and pulled the trigger.

What was in front of her was so sudden that even Jessica, with her extraordinary powers, couldn't dodge the bullet coming straight at her in a split second.

All she could do was watch as the discharged bullet flew toward her.

In her mind, the idea that Ryan had indeed been controlled by Purple Man flashed in an instant.

But the expected death didn't come. The bullet that came straight at her magically changed direction. In the next second, before it hit Jessica, it cut through the tip of her hair and smashed the ceramic behind her.

Accompanied by the sound of shattering ceramics.

Only then did Ryan's voice slowly echo in Jessica's ears, "[Curved Ballistics], one of the miraculous gun arts mastered by the members of the Brotherhood. Unfortunately, I'm not competent enough to do more than slightly swerving the bullets. There's no way to manipulate the bullet's trajectory at will, like the members of the Brotherhood."

Bang --

Ryan bowed his head, looked at the counter that was smashed in half, and then at Jessica, who was shaking her fist, "I was just demonstrating. After all, you said you didn't believe me."

"Me too." Retracting her fist, Jessica calmed her still pounding heart. For a moment there, she almost thought she was about to say goodbye to the world.

After calming down, Jessica looked up and looked at Ryan again.

However, at this moment, Jessica's gaze at him was clearly a little different.

Fisk Towers, Manhattan.

The broken glass on the top floor had long since been repaired.

Kingpin stood at the edge of the window, leaning on his own cane, looking down at everything under the building.

"Recently, my business in Manhattan has taken a serious hit. It's not good," Kingpin turned around and looked at the shivering man kneeling behind him, "It's bad, Anthony, it wasn't like this when I handed things over to you."

"There's a reason for all this, Kingpin; there's been a madman on the territory recently. He keeps attacking our business, and we've lost a number of our men." In the face of Kingpin's questions, the man couldn't help but loudly defend himself.

"I don't want to hear your excuses," Kingpin coldly said as he picked up the man with one hand. He ignored the struggles of the man in his hand, "To me, you're just covering up your incompetence with excuses. All I need is results, results that will satisfy me. Do you understand?"

"I... Un.... Understand ..."

The man Kingpin lifted by the neck replied with difficulty.

Casually, throwing the blue-faced man back to the ground, Kingpin took out his handkerchief and wiped his palm, "Then I'll give you another chance. But remember, Anthony, this is the last time. If you can't satisfy me, then maybe we aren't going to meet up in an office next time."

On the floor, the man nodded with a difficult expression as he gasped for air and covered his neck.
