Chapter 180: Asgard Brings Good News
Thor activated the communicator to get details about the Dark Elf invasion from Asgard.
"Your Highness, while there has been no significant loss, the people are outraged and demand retaliation against the Dark Elves," Sif reported seriously.
Thor considered this for a moment before asking, "What does Father think?"
"Your Majesty… he said the decision is yours."
Thor couldn't help but laugh. It seemed Odin was as furious about the Dark Elves' invasion as everyone else but was reluctant to ruin his long-standing image of benevolence. So, he passed the responsibility to Thor.
What would Thor do? The answer was obvious.
Thor thought for a while and then asked, "How long until the Nine realm Convergence is over?"
"Three days."
"Alright, then I'll return in three days and wipe out this race completely!"
With that, he ended the call.
Thor's plan was straightforward: the Dark Elves needed to be eradicated. Once the Nine Stars converged, the Dark Elves would be unable to travel across the Nine Realms. Trapped in Svartálfheim, they would have no chance of escape...
Another reason for Thor's urgency was that the system had issued new tasks with higher priorities.
"Drip! Congratulations to the host for triggering the mission—Galaxy Overlord: Eliminate the two bosses of the Guardians of the Galaxy series!"
"Current progress: Ronan 0/1, Ego 0/1"
"Mission reward: a fortress-level interstellar battle fortress!"
"Time limit: Before Ronan or Ego is eliminated by someone else."
This reward seemed fitting. Although Thor wasn't sure what the specific battle fortress was like, the fact that it was a fortress meant it couldn't be far off from Thanos' Sanctuary II. Such a vessel would undoubtedly be the most formidable in the universe!
Meanwhile, Star-Lord and the others had finished their negotiation. Drax had temporarily abandoned his plan to kill Gamora and agreed to join them in dealing with Ronan.
"Trust me, little squirrel, Yondu's 40,000 bounty is nothing compared to what we have. We have a better deal."
Star-Lord approached Gamora, speaking in hushed tones, "I know you must have found a buyer for the Power Orb. How much will they pay?"
Gamora glanced at him coolly, "Four billion."
"What?!"
Rocket's ears perked up with excitement. He no longer cared about the nickname Star-Lord had given him.
"Listen, once we get the money, the three of us will split it equally..."
"I'm Groot!"
Groot protested; Ents deserved a share too!
"Okay, four of us. Really, you all only care about money. So, the four of us will split it equally..."
As they happily discussed their future share, Thor interjected.
"Don't get your hopes up. You won't get any money because the orb is empty."
"Empty?"
Star-Lord was stunned, and before he could react, Gamora's face went pale. She knew the secret of the Power Orb.
She snatched it from Star-Lord's hand and inspected it closely.
"How can this be...?"
Looking at the empty Power Orb, Gamora muttered in disbelief before turning to Star-Lord.
"Don't look at me, I haven't even opened it!"
Star-Lord was momentarily overwhelmed by a flood of frustration. After all the effort he put in, was this all he had—a worthless metal ball worth barely anything?
Gamora didn't doubt Star-Lord's honesty but rather his strength.
The Power Gem was certainly not something just anyone could take.
She looked at Thor with horror, "Have you already obtained the Power Gem, or did Thanos get it?"
Except for Star-Lord, who remained clueless, everyone else was aware of Morag's situation.
Drax wasn't initially interested in the Power Gem, but the mention of "Thanos" and "Ronan" caught his attention.
Thor shook his head, "No, we fought and destroyed the Power Gem."
Destroyed?
While others might not grasp the significance, Gamora did.
The Power Gem was gone? Was Thanos' plan already thwarted before it even began?
Gamora felt a sense of bitter irony. Was this some form of retribution?
Thor, noting her reaction, explained, "It's not that simple. The Infinity Gems aren't permanently destroyed; they're merely turned into an atomic state. They remain in the universe and will regenerate when conditions allow."
In the original timeline, didn't Thanos use the Time Gem to restore the Mind Gem destroyed by Wanda, only to face two more deaths in the dark fantasy world?
Farewell to life and death twice!
In contrast, Thor, the noble Asgardian, felt the need to prevent such tragedies and save those in distress.
