On the base rooftop, Black Widow, now dressed in a sleek black combat suit, boarded the helicopter waiting there and began maneuvering it for a slow ascent. She had successfully obtained all the research data and was now seizing the opportunity to escape amidst the chaos, planning to deliver the files back to S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Hawkeye's team can handle the cleanup here," she muttered to herself.
The intelligence she had gathered today was substantial, not only revealing Reyes's mutant clone weapon project but also uncovering a rejuvenated Wolverine and a group of hidden mutant children in New York.
However, just as she lifted the helicopter off the rooftop, a figure with snow-white wings suddenly appeared right in front of it.
"Veravido!"
George cast a Transfiguration Charm directly at the rotor shaft of the helicopter.
Under the spell's effect, the mechanical shaft instantly transformed into a solid rock, causing the rotor to jam and cease spinning. The helicopter promptly crashed back onto the rooftop.
Although George's Transfiguration spell couldn't yet transform an entire helicopter, altering a single part of it was no problem at all. Complex machinery often needed just one component to be disabled to render it nonfunctional.
"You sure know how to make a quick getaway!"
Before the helicopter fully crashed, Black Widow sensed something was wrong and leaped nimbly onto the rooftop, then began escaping down the side with swift, agile movements.
But for George, this attempt to escape was futile. He quickly accelerated and flew in front of her, blocking her path on the rooftop.
"The renowned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Black Widow. I'll need you to hand over those cloned research files," he demanded.
"You're not with Reyes. Are you one of Wolverine's allies?"
Black Widow subtly raised her Widow's Bite, replying, "If you're with Wolverine, then we aren't enemies. Our goals align—we both want to dismantle Reyes's operation."
From the continuous explosions in the distance, it was clear the base invasion was still underway, leaving Reyes likely too occupied to have noticed she had duplicated his research files. Furthermore, the odds of him assigning someone to chase her down were slim.
The key was that, even if he did find out, he wouldn't have this level of detailed information on her.
So, the man with wings and powers capable of downing a helicopter was, in all likelihood, an ally of Wolverine.
"If our objectives are aligned, then please hand over the research data. This clone mutant technology must be destroyed; otherwise, even if we stop Reyes this time, someone else will pick up where he left off."
George extended his hand with a calm smile.
But Black Widow shook her head. "That's not my decision to make. My mission is to bring this data to the Director, who will decide whether to destroy it."
"But trust in S.H.I.E.L.D.—whatever decision is made, the ultimate goal is to protect this world."
She continued, "If you don't believe us, come with Wolverine to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. I'm sure the Director will give you both satisfactory answers."
"So, you're unwilling to hand it over? Then I'll have to take it myself!"
George had no intention of further discussion; he raised his hand and cast a Stupefy Charm.
"Stupefy!"
However, Black Widow wasn't like the average soldier—she was highly trained, her body augmented through Red Room enhancements, making her far superior to typical agents.
The moment she saw George raise his hand, she reacted tactically, dodging the magic beam aimed at her while releasing a high-voltage, 30,000-volt mini-electroshock from her Widow's Bite.
"Quick reflexes, but it's pointless."
As Black Widow deftly dodged his spell and launched a counterattack, George smirked, activating his powers to redirect her miniature electroshock device right back at her.
The device contained metal, meaning it was subject to his magnetic control.
Caught off guard, Black Widow's expression changed dramatically as her own weapon flew back at her. She bent her body with exceptional agility to avoid the returning electroshock, but it was futile. Under George's control, the device didn't simply ricochet back—it plummeted in a gravity-defying descent, adhering directly to her chest.
The 30,000-volt shock surged from the device, leaving Black Widow convulsing on the ground.
"See? If you'd just handed it over, you wouldn't be in this mess," George said, shaking his head with a wry smile as he approached the temporarily incapacitated Black Widow.
A quick search led him to a hidden pocket inside her tight suit, where he found a small USB drive.
"Nice figure, nice feel," he quipped, making a light-hearted remark before crushing the drive to pieces right before her eyes.
Then, he raised a finger toward the struggling Black Widow, who was still trying to regain control over her twitching muscles.
"Obliviate, Modify Memory!"
Just as he'd done with Coulson, George intended to erase and alter Black Widow's memories.
He knew, of course, that memory-erasing and modification spells weren't foolproof. For an ordinary person, they might work without issue, but agents were highly trained, meticulous individuals. Given time to reflect, she might notice inconsistencies and question her experiences.
But that didn't concern George. As long as there were no immediate issues, he didn't mind. Even if Coulson and Black Widow later used S.H.I.E.L.D.'s resources to restore their memories, it wouldn't affect him much.
After handling Reyes, he intended to enter a new period of seclusion to study and refine his magical prowess. He'd barely be stepping outside. S.H.I.E.L.D. would only have one lead to find him: Tony Stark.
Assuming Tony was inclined to cooperate with Nick Fury, he still wouldn't be of much help. Tony only knew they were hiding somewhere in New York—George had never told him about the mutant school.
"Stupefy!"
He cast a Stupefy charm to put Black Widow into a deeper sleep before lifting her up and flying quickly to the battlefield where Tony and the others were still engaged.
The mutant clones wouldn't cease fighting simply because Reyes was dead—just as in the movie, X-24 continued to pursue Old Man Logan even after Reyes's death.
Their bodies contained control devices, and although they could be managed remotely, they would continue fighting to the death if their controller died.
So Tony and Wolverine were still locked in combat against numerous mutant clones.
"George, get over here! We can't hold them off much longer!" Tony's voice rang out as George arrived at the battlefield.
George was surprised by the scene that greeted him.
"What's going on here?"
He had expected Tony and Wolverine, with their combined close- and long-range skills, to at least hold their ground against the clones. But Wolverine was being utterly suppressed, barely able to retaliate, while Tony's armor was torn apart, one arm suit completely shattered, and the rest of his suit in tatters—clearly, he'd taken a severe beating.
