Martha Jordan

‘‘What in God’s name is happening’’ Martha asked as she properly wore Marcus’ jacket and rolled the sleeve till it was her arm’s length. ‘The thing I have been shielding everyone from’ I answered running a hand through my hair. ‘’And what is that?’’ she asked pulling off her shoes. ‘Nothing you need to know about Milky way’ I said to her. ‘’You did not just mean that! I almost just got hit right now Sir and you are still telling me I need not know?’’ she asked in a slightly elevated hushed tone. ‘I’ll explain it all to you but do you see that car over there’ I asked pointing towards my car and she nodded. ‘I am going to cover you and I want you to run as hard as you can. Do you hear me?’ I asked looking at her directly. ‘’You might not know this but I am a level four combatant now but my dad put a pause to my trainings because of my studies so the least I can do is run’’ she said with a shrug of her shoulders. ‘I know everything about you L4 combatant. On my count of three, you run’ I said as I pulled out an Akdal Ghost TR01 pistol from the back of my pants. ‘One Two…’ I started but she cut me off, ‘’don’t get hit Milky Way’’ she said and I chortled lightly, surprised that she was still worrying about me even though I put her in harm’s way only a couple of seconds ago and at the nickname she just reciprocated in calling me. ‘I’ll try. Three!’ I said and she started running while I side ran with her shooting at the direction the bullet came from the other time. Because I was running, the bullets fired back did not touch me at first but before I got to my car, I was shot in my arm. I opened the door of the car to get in and was expecting Martha to do same but that was when I turned back and saw it. Martha did not make it to the car, she was sprawled on the floor, in her red dress, with her blood flowing from her side.

ON THE WAY

MARTHA'S POV

I walked in between my brothers and faced Ferran. Despite his save, my family came first and I won't trade them over anything or anyone.

"Why are you here Ferran?" I asked calmly.

"I came to take you for training love! You have been cooped up in your aquarium for too long" said Ferran.

Oh, such a darling! Like he knew I was in need of some guidance.

"Alright, let me get dressed and I'll join you in a bit" I said as I turned to go back upstairs. I turned back to face Ferran when I was three steps ahead . "I think it would be best if you like…cool off in your car" I said with a false forced smile. He was still very much exuding an aura of anger, even after Daddy Two had come in and I could still feel the tension in the air.

"Training? What training is she going for?" asked Marcus suddenly.

I stopped to hear the excuse whoever was smart was going to give him because it was like I experienced a brain glitch at that moment and no form of excuse could abruptly stem up in my brain.

"Ummm, it is not really training. It is more of a physiotherapy session for the absolute healing of her legs" said my dad. I fist pumped the air as I moved myself to my room. Way to go, Jordan the First!

I dressed in a pair of comfortable grey joggers and hoodie. Beneath the hoodie, I wore a black bralette, just in case I got into the training session so much and sweated a river. I definitely packed my hair atop my head in a ponytail - I always feel it is better to spar with your hair high up as a lady. I wore a pair of white sneakers and strapped a black back pack that contained some things I deemed highly necessary into it.

When I got back downstairs, everyone was seated in the living room and Seth announced that wanted to see a movie.

A movie? With the oldies? It did not sound like just a movie to me?

"What is the name of the movie?" I asked inquisitively. "Dad recommended The Two Faced Man!" said Michael as he tried to put things in place for them to watch the movie.

The Two Faced Man? I know that movie! It is about a man who was living double lives. To his family, he was the perfect husband and perfect father but in the night, he was the man whose deeds hunted the very minds of those within the city which he operated, including his family. His wife often uses the stories of how the man killed his victims, to scare her children into being obedient - the man was a serial killer. My dad had personally chosen the movie for a reason and I mentally rolled my eyes at him.

"But, don't you think it is too early to watch movies? It's barely mid day and you guys are comfortably positioned for a movie. I mean, you all are grown ups and it is still very very early in the day!"

"Are you trying to say grown ups should not watch such movies? That is quite discriminatory Martha. I do not think you would ever be that kind of person. I wanted to go with you for this therapeutic session but I am really curious about this movie that your dads have chosen. I'll pass instead, do well and come back early!" said Lily.

From her answer, I felt like she had been suspecting their acts - their actions were becoming quite blaring and clearer now.

Michael turned off the super bright lights in the room, giving the living room a dark theme setting. My dad sat very relaxed on a one seater chair with his arms folded across his chest.

"Where is Ferran?" I asked

"The chic is in his car, waiting for you!" said Seth

"You are late when you come to this house by 8 pm" said Michael.

"Are you putting me on a curfew right now little brother?"

"You can take it as whatever but if you do, expect to sleep outside!" completed Seth.

"Nice one! It just seems like you guys are forgetting your place. I'll be back! I'm going now dad!" I said the last sentence to attract my dad's attention to my face.

My face read, 'don't try anything funny'. He only nodded with a smile and fixed his eyes back on the television. My eyes wandered to the centre table, where I saw a chess board. These people were up to no good and even want to go as far as testing Lily's Intellectual Quotient.

A person's intellect can be tested by playing the game chess and not just that, the way the game is played also matters and is unique and peculiar to different individuals who are good in this field. A person is not just rated based on whether he or she wins or loses. The major rating for the true lovers of chess are the techniques used by an individual. Their knowledge on when to defend and when to attack. What should be protected and what should not. What can be sacrificed for the greater good and when sacrificing is not even an option.

"Bye everyone!"

"Bye Martha!" they chanted and Marcus' voice was the loudest.

"So, I know that the place we are headed is Wild Read but I have no idea what building in Wild Read we are to have this meeting!" I said to Ferran as he drove.

"It is an old building and not many persons know about it. All you needed to know in the information that was sent, is the city. We were supposed to search on our own for the exact house" said Ferran.

"Wow! I sure have missed out on a lot of things." I said and Ferran laughed.

"Yes you have. So, how is your leg?"

"Better! Stronger! I can even land a spinning kick properly." I said, mirth outstanding in my voice.

"I bet you can. Now let's get into discovering what building The Heart Holders would have decided for Level Four Combatants to have their meeting today. Okay?!

"Okay!" I said as I brought out a book and pen to draft out a pattern from our thoughts and ideas.

"So what, is your first…Christ!" I screamed as I looked up from my book to face a car running into us. We were on a bridge and not many persons were driving at that hour.

"What the heck? Are you alright?" asked Ferran as he looked at me to check if I sustained any injury.

"The air bag saved us!" I said amidst coughs.

We heard the screeching from the tyres of the car that just rode into us. The car moved back and right before our eyes, drove into our unmoving car with a greater force…again! The person driving was wearing a black baseball hat and a false mask and I could not make out any leading detail on who the person that was so intent on killing us was. His life was also at stake but it seemed like he did not mind and all his focus was on having us dead. Before he could hit our unmoving car the second time, Ferran used his body as a shield and protected me.

As we heard the car move back the third time, Ferran tried to start his car. I held my bag tighter as I wondered who this hardened fool was. His eyes held no fear. Just when his car was about to slam into us again, Ferran's car picked and Ferran was able to reverse as the assassin's car charged at us.

Before he could steer to the right to drive off, the assassin's car hit ours and drove us back. Our car broke through the boundary of the bridge and almost went into the body of water below us.

I looked at Ferran and saw him unmoving as blood oozed out from the side of his head - he was unconscious and it was up to me to make a decision for the both of us.

I tried to move to his side so I could see if I could drive us back but the car tilted to the side of the water. I sat down back gently immediately. I took in a sharp breath and when I exhaled, I was ready to put into practice what I had learnt in a situation like this one.

I heard footsteps coming towards the car and I looked. Behold, it was the mysterious man with the baseball hat - the one responsible for our predicament. I stayed still and thought of closing my eyes to pretend I was unconscious also but on second thought, I opened my eyes to him. He came to my side of the window and with one strong punch, he had my window crash. I yelled at his action but I did not know I was screaming for the wrong thing…yet.

The car vibrated by his punch and tilted further.

"Who sent you?* I asked in the most venom filmed way. He looked at me for a second, removed his cap and ran his fingers through his brown hair. He peeled off the mask from his face and looked down at me

"I love blessing whoever is to die by me, the pleasure of seeing my face. Now you've seen it, now you die!" said the assailant and he dropped something on me that rolled to my feet.

He dropped a bomb on me.
