Don’t worry too much

"Jeremiah, let me in!"

Jeremiah just looked at her coldly. The old butler then let out a tired sigh. "You can't just walk in, Lady Gilmore. Duchess Dulcia isn't where she is right now."

Evanthe grew even more irritated at the word "duchess". "I don't care about that! Selah has put my father and mother in prison!"

"Lower your voice, Lady Gilmore. You should be grateful because until now, Duchess Dulcia didn't want to know who her half-sister was. What might happen if Her Grace finds out who you are?" Jeremiah warned.

"No, quite the opposite… quite the opposite she should know." Evanthe pointed at herself angrily. "I am the one who should be entitled to this title and land!"

"How can you proudly say that?"

"Of course-"

The sound of the galloping carriage interrupted Evanthe's words. The horse carriage then stopped, and Selah got out of it.

With those dignified eyes, Selah looked at Evanthe appraisingly.

Selah turned her gaze to Jeremiah. "What is this?"

"Welcome back, Your Grace," greeted Jeremiah. "You must be tired after work. I've asked Janette to prepare your tea."

"Okay. I'll go straight to the study and check the remaining work–"

"Wait, Lady Selah!" Evanthe cut in desperately. She grabbed Selah's hand. "We need to talk."

Selah shook off Evanthe's hand roughly. "I am busy, Lady Evanthe. If you want to talk to me, please send an official notification," she said firmly.

"What?!" Evanthe asked in disbelief. "You are not like this to me! You… you imprisoned my mother!"

"I don't remember imprisoning Viscountess Gilmore. It's her fault because her name is recorded in Father's crime record."

"You… how can you say that. After using your own father and having other people imprisoned… what do you think their family will be like? Those people you imprisoned still have families to support, and you are only making things worse!"

"Oh." Selah snorted mockingly. "So you're here to ask for money? The Gilmores don't seem to see you as part of Gilmore anymore."

Those words made Evanthe angry instantly. Her hand was already flying to slap Selah, but Zen immediately stopped her.

"Don't underestimate me! I can get a higher position than you!" Evanthe shouted angrily.

"Prove it, Lady Evanthe." Selah looked at him with disdain. He then whispered. "But unfortunately, Crown Prince Blair doesn't like stupid women."

"You-!"

"Take Lady Evanthe away, Sir Zen. Don't let me punish him because he has disturbed the order in this residence," Selah ordered her knight.

"Yes, Your Grace."

Evanthe was dragged out by two of Dulcia's knights.

"Lady Selah! You bastard woman! You see, I will repay you! You will regret ever doing this to me!"

***

Evanthe wanted so badly to rip Selah's self-righteous face to shreds. The way she looked and that sharp look made it seem like Selah was just a queen. Even though she is nobody. For God's sake, Selah was only the fiancee of a second prince!

But she seems so powerful! Evanthe thought, annoyed.

"Evanthe? I must have kept you waiting long enough."

"Blair…" Evanthe stood up from her seat and immediately hugged Blair. "Sorry for running into you without notice. Right now… you're the only one I have."

"Must have been really hard on you lately," Blair said. "And I can't be of much help."

Evanthe tightened her grip. She shook her head. "I understand you're busy. As long as I can still see you, it's fine."

"Sit down." Blair let go of Evanthe's embrace. "You look tired. I hope tea and sweets can lift your mood."

Evanthe tried to smile, although she secretly sensed something was off about Blair. "Thank You."

Blair then asked someone to prepare tea and sweet treats for them. While waiting, they talked about the usual little things. Blair with his work and Evanthe's day. She deliberately hid the fact that she had just met Selah. Somehow, she had a feeling that something bad would happen if Evanthe brought Selah's name to the table right now.

Why? Why did the bad feeling arise?

Blair looked angry and disgusted with Evanthe the last time they talked about Selah and Archibald. Blair seemed tired of Evanthe's attitude and wanted to break it off.

Or because of Selah's words?

[But sadly, Crown Prince Blair doesn't like stupid women.]

What does it mean? thought Evanthe frantically. Selah's words were as if she knew that Evanthe and Blair were having a relationship behind her back.

"You don't look good. Something happens?" Blair asked, interrupting Evanthe's reverie.

Evanthe blinked a few times. "That… No, nothing," s he muttered doubtfully.

"From now on, the flow of money in and out of the Palace will be tightened. And not only money but luxury gifts are also strictly considered. So I can't help you much," Blair explained suddenly.

Evanthe wasn't here to ask for money. No, she was already too embarrassed because of Selah's words.

Damn, it.

But what hurt even more was that Blair thought Evanthe had come here to beg. Does Evanthe look that pitiful right now?

"Blair, why did you ask me to be your lover?"

Blair furrowed his brows. "It was a sudden question," he admits. "Why do you want to know?"

"No, it's just that I…."

Feeling not loved anymore. Feeling already started to be regarded as a nuisance…

"Are you worried because I haven't announced our relationship yet?" Blair sighed. "Evanthe, I just broke up about a month ago. I can't just announce that I have a relationship with you."

"I told you not that!" Evanthe argued. She didn't realize she had raised her voice. "I-I'm sorry…"

Blair's hand in her and his grip made Evanthe's eyes water instantly. Her lover then stood up from her seat and hugged Evanthe.

"Don't worry too much, Evanthe. I know it hasn't been easy for you lately, but please calm down and have a little patience," Blair said, trying to calm her down. He kissed Evanthe's forehead then. "My fault, too, for being unable to help much."

Those words, as well as the hug, brought Evanthe to tears. However, she seemed to regain her faith in Blair's love. If treated like this, it means Blair still loves her, right? Evanthe needn't have worried, right?

I'm fine. I still have Blair, Evanthe thought.

While Evanthe continued crying and hugging Blair, Blair had other thoughts.

Evanthe is a weak woman and cannot hide her feelings. Something must have just happened to her. But what?

Blair will find out.
