Amelia sucked in a breath of cold air. She had tried her best to keep her voice down and leave the room, yet Horace had still heard her. With how things were, there was no choice but to fess up. Matteo and Ronan were going to be back any minute anyway.
She smiled and discreetly cut the call, praying that Matteo would understand. Saying a proper goodbye was the least of her worries right now.
"You don't have to hide anything just because of my health, my dear," Horace said understandingly. "If Emmeline has done something and you need my help against her, I can help you."
Amelia shook her head. "She's still your granddaughter," she said. "I don't want you to have to make that choice between us, Grandpa. I know you're looking out for me, but I can handle her."
"So she has done something," Horace pointed out, and Amelia could only smile sheepishly. "What is it this time?"
