An Obedient Son

"Have you been resting well?" Supreme Princess Selova Vamieres asked Princess Rizelle when she noticed the surprisement on the latter's face. "As I said before, I come because we have many things to discuss." Her gaze briefly swept her son and she added, "Nicien just return from the camp and I told him to come along."

With someone like the Supreme Princess explaining things to her, Rizelle Verona suddenly felt uncomfortable and she promptly lowered her head. "Thanks to your concern, I have a good rest, Your Highness."

"No need to be too courteous, Princess," Selova Vamieres responded with a calm smile on her face. "We all are family and after the wedding, you will be my daughter-in-law. I prefer to have a close relationship with you rather than a formal one."

Unexpecting to hear such words, Rizelle's eyes slightly went wide but she maintained her composure again very soon. And before she even got the chance to respond, the Supreme Princess spoke up again.

"Why don't we take a seat? As I said, there are many things to discuss."

Selova Vamieres instantly made her way to the couches and took a seat on the single one in the head. Rizelle sat down on the long couch on her left and with one glance from his mother, Nicien Vamieres walked forward and sat beside Rizelle, taking the latter by surprise once again.

"The wedding is in three days but it was hard for us to start the preparation," Supreme Princess Selova spoke up. "But now that you're here, we can finally push forward everything." She looked at her son and added, "Nicien also decide not to busy himself with other matters until the wedding, for better cooperation."

Hearing this, Rizelle briefly glanced at her fiance who was sitting beside her but with a little gap between them.

Did he really decide that on his own? She doubted that.

Judging from how well he listened to his mother, maybe the Supreme Princess told him to do.

"There is not much time for you to learn everything. So, before the wedding, you can only learn about the wedding rituals and prepare yourself for the big day," Selova Vamieres informed Rizelle, patiently. "Then after the wedding, you can take your time to learn our history, culture, and customs here. Are you okay with that?"

Among all the things that the Supreme Princess said, there wasn't anything that Rizelle didn't expect. As a royal herself, she knew how things were usually done. She was taught since birth after all.

"I'm fine with it," she replied with a nod and the Supreme Princess showed her a pleasant smile.

"I'm glad," she remarked and it was followed by a few seconds of silence. "It will be hard for you as you won't be familiar with things here; but... I hope you don't worry too much, Princess. Nicien and I will be here to help you with any problem that you might have. And I'm sure that one day, you will really belong here. You only have to hold on for a while."

The voice of the Supreme Princess was so warm and at one point, it even made Rizelle wonder what it would be like to have her as a mother.

Her mother passed away when she was just 1 and her father never remarried. She had no memories of her mother; so she never knew what it was like to have one.

Will the feeling be heartwarming like she felt now?

She hated how thinking of these made her miss her homeland even more. She thought that she would be fine and that she was good at holding back but... the heartwarming feeling made her shed a tear that rolled down her face.

Rizelle Verona was very quick at wiping away the lone tear and she instantly wondered if the Supreme Princess and her fiance caught a glimpse of it. When she looked at them again, she had a feeling that they did.

She thought that she was making things awkward but...

"It's okay," the Supreme Princess quickly assured her. "You are still young but you left your homeland and came to such a faraway place. It will be hard and you don't have to hold back."

Rizelle recalled her brother's advice before she left Linolia. Renaut told her to keep her guard on and not to trust anyone blindly once she reached here. However, the warm voice and words of the Supreme Princess made her believe that it's okay to trust her.

"I don't usually cry," she confessed and she missed the slight change in her fiance's expression when she said that as her gaze was on the Supreme Princess. "I don't even shed a tear when I bid goodbye to my father and brother and when I left my Linolia. I don't know what's suddenly gotten into me."

Hearing her honest confession, Supreme Princess Selova's smile grew a bit wider. "Shedding a tear doesn't make you weak, Princess," she said in her usual gentle voice. "It's okay to shed tears from time to time so that we can refresh ourselves and have the energy to go on."

Her gaze was briefly on her son who didn't miss whatever gesture she gave him. Then she rose from her seat with Rizelle and Nicien promptly following suit. "It will soon be time for dinner and you know that we will all be eating here in the main palace tonight, right? You can come together with Nicien later."

With that said, she walked out of the chamber, giving them no time to say anything like before.

The door was shut and like several hours ago, Rizelle was alone in the chamber with her fiance who seemed to be feeling equally lost as her. Though it was quite awkward, she sat down when Nicien Vamieres did.

Almost a minute passed yet silence still occupied the chamber and once again, Rizelle wondered why he didn't just leave if he wasn't saying anything.

Was it because the Supreme Princess said to come together to the dining hall later?

Why was he such an obedient son? It didn't suit him at all!
