Chapter 39

Adam pushed his silver-rimmed glasses and then lit a cigarette. "You can go now."

"Is this your attitude toward your buddy? I'm helping you. You don't even give me a glass of water and want to drive me away." Arty sat on the sofa and said, "I'll stay here."

Adam said, "Marie, get Mr. Bloom a glass of water."

"Mr. Bloom, do you really want to drink water? I don't think you are thirsty," Marie said in an unfriendly tone.

Arty said, "Marie, you also bully me."

Marie was more than 50 years old now. Adam was brought up by her. Adam and Adam's friends had never treated her as a servant. She was more like an elder of these young people and was respected.

Marie brought Arty a bottle of water and said, "Mr. Hills is doing something stupid. You shouldn't help him. He can't get divorced, or old Mrs. Hills will punish you when she comes back."
