Serenity Woods

I took a bus to reach the ends of the city. From there, my next destination is the neighboring city, Rockfall City. Many opt to go and ride vehicles to travel but my parents told me it is better to temper myself through traveling by foot. Since I might meet a random encounter that I may miss while traveling fast.

Between the Rockfall City and Whitesnow city was a forest called Serenity Woods. This forest had a road that connects the two cities. It was advisable for beginners like me to walk along this road since only low rank summons dwell around here. If one goes deeper in the woods the will likely encounter those high rank summons.

There were quite a number of new summoners like me taking this route. The others formed groups while there were also some travelling by themselves like me. Not long as I passed the entrance, I saw two summoners having a battle.

"Fist Ape block his attack then counter him with an uppercut!" The summoner commanded his summon. This summoner was the first one to get his summon during baptism.

His ape hurriedly blocked its opponent's attack. It ducked in order to gather force into its fists and released a powerful uppercut. However, its enemy maintained its composure and hurriedly stepped back.

The enemy summon was a bear-like summon that was standing on its two hind legs. I took out a glasses scanner that was given to me by my father yesterday.

Rabid Ursa ★★

"Go finish this little monkey. Body Charge!" The other summoner instructed the bear to end this battle.

The bear jumped with a huge explosion of force. Its body charged towards the little monkey and smashed it into the ground. Flattening it.

Lucky for the pact summons, they are immediately returned to their cards when its life is in danger. They then recuperate inside their own cards. A faster method is going to the guild and have them heal there. There are also healing crystals available in case a guild is not in reach.

The Fist Ape returned to its card. The owner shook the winner's hands.

"Thanks for the battle."

"It was a good match." The winner returned his greeting.

Seeing that the battle was done, I went on my way. I took my phone from my pocket and looked at the map. It was already time for the sun to set so I was finding a good spot to sleep. After taking a good look, I saw a place that had a small lake, so I decided to set my camp there.

The place was quite far from the road. But I thought that it was safe since there was no one there. Setting the camp was relatively easy since all I need to do is activate the tent crystal that was given to me by my dearest mother. This made my camping life easier. The disadvantage of this camp is that I need to set this in an open space like this.

I released Kuro from his card so that he can breathe some fresh air and comfortably take a nap while cooking dinner. The food I'm cooking is just simple grilled meat that I got from mom. The aroma wafted around the air as it went to the nose of the sleeping Kuro. His nose moved and sniffed the delicious scent. He immediately ran towards me.

"Nyaa!" Kuro cried as he placed his paws on my leg saying that he wants to eat.

"This is almost finish. Just wait here." I told him as I placed the remaining seasoning into the meat.

I was placing the meat on the plates when the nearby leaves shook. I turned around to look for the place that shook while Kuro raised his ears and listened carefully. A summon must have been attracted by the smell. I should place this into my head not to cook aromatic food in the wild.

The sound of shaking grass can be heard again and when I looked around the second time I noticed a sharp beak poking out from a shrub. The summon was struggling to get out of the shrub until it finally freed itself.

Gale Eagle ★★

The summon was a small bird. Its body was white, but its wings was in a shade of green. Its yellow eyes were brimming with brightness as it saw the food that was on the plate I was holding.

"Chirp! Chirp!" It flapped it wings and flew towards the plate. But since it was still a hatchling it could not control its flight and crashed towards Kuro who was at my feet.

"Nyaa!" Kuro cried as he soothed his head using his little paw. He furiously looked at the bird and growled.

The bird was still recovering from the impact from the crash when Kuro attacked it.

"Chirp?" It had a face full of questions and was not able to react in time.

"Chiiirp!" The bird cried as Kuro scratched the Gale Eagle with his claws.

"Wait Kuro stop it." I stopped the rampaging Kuro from hurting the poor bird.

"Nyaa!" The cat did not want to stop. He wants to punish the pesky bird for hitting him.

"Chirp! Chirp!" The little bird was now tearing up. It was scared and tried to fly away but crashed again.

Isn't this a good time to get this bird? An idea struck into my head.

"Change of plans Kuro. I will make sure that I'll make a pact with that bird. Stop him from escaping." I commanded my summon.

Kuro affirmed with a meow and ran towards the escaping bird. I immediately opened my bestiary and took an empty card from it.

"Here it goes!" I threw the card towards the bird and a bright light absorbed it.

To make a pact with a wild summon one must use an empty card either from the Bestiary or from the guild. The Bestiary has 5 empty cards and will increase as its rank goes up. When a summoner uses up all his cards he can buy from the guild. These cards are like the basic empty cards that are obtained from the Bestiary.

However, there are also different kinds of cards. Some cards can increase the chances of creating a pact with different kinds of summons. For example, a water card can increase the likelihood of making a pact with a summon that has the inclination of the water element.

The most basic Bestiary has the upper limit of 10 summons. Same as the empty cards, the limit will increase as the rank of the Bestiary rises.

When the card flew and returned back to my hand, I knew that I successfully got the Gale Eagle. I read the Gale Eagle's Card

Gale Eagle ★★

Skills:

Gale Wing

Air Blast

Ability:

Eagle Eye: Increases skill accuracy by 10%

I immediately summoned my new friend.

"I summon thee, Gale Eagle!" I threw the card in front of me and the little bird came out.

"Chirp! Chirp! Chirp!" It happily flapped its wings and landed on my shoulder. Its eyes however, was still on the food.

"You two should not fight okay? We are now buddies." My two summons nodded. Kuro wanted to tell me something but immediately changed his mind seeing that I did not want them to have any conflicts.

I placed the plate that I was holding on the ground and gave it to the two summons. "This is your food. Remember to share it with each other okay?" I told my summons as I went back to cook again since the food was not enough because of the new member of our team.

I was eating my dinner when I realized I need to make a nickname for the little bird. I had a hard time thinking so I slept for the night. Beside me were the two summons sleeping comfortably inside the tent. It was a good thing that none of the two were snoring. I had a pretty peaceful night.

The sun had already risen when I woke up. But the two were still sleeping peacefully. "Hey, you two wake up! Time to pack the things up and resume our journey." I woke the sleepy heads up.

It did not take me long to keep the tent. I ate my breakfast which was a sandwich along the road to Rockfall City. It was around noon when I exited the forest and it did not take me an hour to reach the entrance of the city.

Enjoy. If you have any suggestions in making a new kind of summon please don't hesitate to leave a comment/review.
