Chapter 31: House hunt

Virin and Sriya were being guided by a young and beautiful female employee from the City Administration department.

At first, Sriya feared that Virin might be smitten by her young beauty but when she saw his nonchalant expression, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Then after walking for a while the trio stood before a small three-room house and the young woman started saying, "This house fits best under your budget of 2 gold per month."

"There are two bedrooms, one hall, a kitchen, and a bathroom with an attached toilet as well."

Virin was about to enter the house in order to inspect it but Sriya pulled his arm.

"Hell no!" she yelled.

"Eh? What happened?" He was confused.

"We can't live here, I won't allow it," she declared.

He shook his head and asked, "At least tell me, what's wrong with this place?"

"The place is cheap and from the outside, the condition of the house isn't that bad either."

She quivered with her gaze crestfallen and said, "This is a red light area, I don't want to live here."

"Who knows, in the future, you might drown yourself in these dirty women," she yelled.

He sighed and said, "Just being a prostitute doesn't make them bad, does it?"

"And you already know, that I will find more women anyway."

She shook her head and said, "I don't care how many women you find, I won't allow leeches who are just after you for your money."

"I know you might think I'm being a hypocrite but I won't allow such women near you and that's final."

He sighed in defeat and pulled her into an embrace and said, "Shh! Calm down, will ya!"

The young woman's eyes started darting here and there after seeing their public display of affection.

"Nope!" yelled Virin this time.

"What is it this time?" questioned the woman with a slightly annoyed expression.

Sriya also looked at Virin with a frown.

"Are you kidding me, Girl?" he questioned her as if she was asking the most stupidest question.

Seeing that the expression of the woman didn't faze while pointing at Sriya, he said, "Can't you see how beautiful my woman is?"

"There are so many bars and taverns around here. God knows how many drunkards would try to assault and harass her."

"Do you want me to turn into a psychopathic murderer?" he questioned their guide.

Now Sriya was also sweating. Unlike their guide who was most probably thinking that Virin was joking, she knew very well, how serious he was.

The guide was now looking and examining Sriya from top to bottom.

'Well that does make sense, drunk adventurers are the worst existence,' she thought to herself.

She herself has to deal with drunk adventure due to her occupation and she really started to despise them recently.

When the trio arrived at the third property, the guide was already tired.

But looking at her clients with a sigh she asked, "Now what?"

Just by looking at their expressions, she could easily arrive at the conclusion that this property was also going to be rejected.

With a deadpan expression, Virin said, "We tend to be, what should I say.....slightly loud in the night!"

"Huh?" the guide was beyond confused but then her gaze landed on Sriya.

Sriya was blushing while trying to hide her face behind her long hair.

Then the guide's eyes opened wide after realizing what he meant by, 'Being loud at night.'

She then looked around and could clearly see why he was against this property as well.

The houses around were attached. The thin walls and narrow alley won't give them privacy and most probably they would end up being the most hated person on this street.

The main reason the duo wanted to rent accommodation was because they didn't want to suffer a gaze filled with accusations and contempt from others.

They wanted an isolated property so that they could frolic without disturbing others and live peacefully.

"Follow me!" said their guide while blushing.

With her guidance, they reached their final destination.

This house or a small mansion was surrounded by boundary fences and a series of trees.

In the middle was a small two-floor mansion and there was a huge tree right next to the house. The tree's huge canopy overshadowed the whole house.

Sriya and Virin glared at their guide with contempt.

From just looks they could guess it was going to be more than a couple of golds.

The guide felt annoyed by their accusatory look and a 5said, " Don't look at me like that."

"Although this looks quite lavish, it's quite cheap. Only three gold per month and this belongs to you."

"It's furbished as well, you would just have to buy new sheets and mattresses. Well only if you don't have a problem sleeping over old ones," she said with a shrug.

Virin looked at her with curiosity and asked, "So, what's the catch?"

"What do you mean?" she questioned him in her reply.

He shrugged and said, "I'm pretty sure this property's worth is more than 20 gold coins leave alone three."

"So there have to be some issues. Come on spit it out already, will ya?" he said nonchalantly.

"Sigh! Well, people believe it to be haunted," she said after feeling her defeat in front of him.

They both frowned but before they could say anything she started speaking again, "Wait! It's not like that, we have asked priests to perform blessings in this house."

She further told them that the owner of the mansion died heirless, a few years ago.

The people who bought this property after that used to complain that there was always some buzzing noise inside the house.

"I can guarantee you there is nothing haunted about this home. All it lacks, is a small family which could fill it with warmth," said the guide.

Virin nodded and while looking at Sriya an idea popped into his head.

After that, they entered the house. It had two stories and was not half bad from the inside.

Two rooms on each floor with a hall, kitchen, and bathroom wasn't a bad deal. Additionally, furniture conditions weren't even that bad.

Sturdy old heavy furniture, especially the huge king-size bed. After seeing that bed, Virin couldn't hide his grin while looking at Sriya.

Sriya immediately started blushing while seeing his grin and she was also excited.

"Fine we'll rent it out!" he said.

Sriya didn't say anything but gave him a questioning gaze in response to which he held her hand in his palm and winked.

The guide nodded with a smile. She couldn't even remember how many times she had tried to let off this property.

But paranoid people always avoid this and due to this, this property has been vacant for a few years now while the administration had to keep paying for its maintenance.

After they went back to the administration office to deal with the paperwork and finally went to the bazaar to buy some necessary items.

After buying a couple of sheets, utensils, and other groceries they returned to their new temporary house.

Sriya was about to enter the house when Virin stopped her.

"What?" she questioned him.

He lifted her up like a princess and then with a satisfied grin said, "Now it's much better! In my previous world, a new couple would always enter like this in their new home."

"Traditions need to be followed, even if it's another world," he said while nudging her nose with his.

She shyly put her arms around his neck and muttered, "I already love this tradition."

They had already eaten dinner in a tavern nearby and after a little bit of cleaning, they decided to sit nearby the fireplace on a couch.

Sriya was sitting on his lap while hugging his neck and they were kissing.

After breaking their kiss, she rested her head on his chest and asked, "Vir aren't you afraid of ghosts?"

"Of course I am, they are the real thing," he said immediately.

"So why did you agree to move to this place?" she asked with curiosity.

This question has been on her mind ever since he agreed to rent this place.

"Well because I have a personal priestess for myself," he said while caressing her back.

"Oh...Hehe, I keep forgetting about my new class," she said while sticking her tongue out.

Virin sniffed her head, to fill his lungs with her enchanting smell and said, "So I knew you can handle the situation if any ghost pops up."

"Of course. Mumma will protect you from bad ghosts," she said while whispering in his ears in a sultry voice.

He immediately stood up while carrying her like a princess and started walking up the stairs to their bedroom.

Then he looked at her face and said, "It's about time we test out the new mattress."

"The store manager wouldn't stop singing about it."

"Of course, hehe!" she giggled and started kissing him like a succubus.
