Exposure and detonation

"That's…..pretty big." The 1400 feet ling Hellicarrier hovering above the clouds was a sight to see. Although it lacked a lot of functionalities compared to the motherships I saw near Tarnax IV, it had more than enough facilities to act as a large military base.

I didn't pay much attention to the sirens ringing near me as I landed my ship gracefully.

[The jets engine melted a portion of the runway, sir]

'Yes, as I said….gracefully.'

"How long till I acclimate."

[Three minutes, sir. It seems your body has adapted to the cold temperatures over the year]

I could've just worn my suit and used the cooling function, but that might make the soldiers surrounding my ship aggressive. They were already cautious of the large ship that appeared out of nowhere and with Nick Fury, occupied with the Tesseract, they only had Maria Hill to order them around.

Getting out of the med bay, I put my clothes back on and opened the doors and greeting the 23 soldiers pointing their guns at me.

"STAND DOWN SOLDIER!" Maria shouted from afar and tehn redirected her gaze back to me. She looked at me with an irritated expression that reminded me a lot of Nick.

The sight of their acting commander now massaging the bridge between her nose was a comical sight to see, but I couldn't waste my time by trying to make them cooperate here.

"What is the meaning of this sir Andrew?" She pointed a rifle at my head and inquired, impatience oozing out of her voice."

Instead of replying to her I activated my magnetic gloves took the gun form a nearby soldier. This immediately alarmed the soldiers and they prepared to shoot me. But before they could pull their trigger…

Three gunshot rang out and the entire party watched in silence.

I honestly had to commend them for their control. Any normal person would have their mouths agape at the sight of bullets stopping after being shot from point blank range.

Though…I guess they were used to it after dealing with the hulk and Ironman.

Still, their discipline was something you'd have a hard time finding.

"It should be clear that your weapons are useless against me, you can try grenades and missiles but I assure you, I have countermeasures against them too. Now if you'd excuse me, I need to stop Nick from accidentally blowing up the entire city."

[That was a bad call, Sir]

Agent Hill…was appalled at the sight before her eyes, but that did not make her lose reason. It was easy to understand that I was here to stop something the Director was doing. Between her director whom she has been trained to follow and me with whom she had little interaction with after coming into my home to investigate for suspicious activity, it was clear whom she would follow.

"Stand down, Andrew. You will be detained and interrogated until the director is back. Any action you take other than that will be taken a sign of aggression and we will open fire." She pointed the muzzle again and ordered.

[We don't have time sir; you will now make it if you wait any longer]

At this point the frustration I had inside be began to surface. I couldn't blame the soldiers following orders, nor could I blame their commander for taking appropriate action.

I never showed a reason for them to trust me nor did I have any fame like Ironman, to warner the attention of the higher up in shield.

Any death caused by the tesseract, is solely my fault.

TING-!

The bullet bounced back from my shield and my suit expanded from the underside of my clothes. The sleek metallic color reflected the light around me in various angles making the entire suit transparent.

The only indication of a presence were my glowing eyes from beneath my helmet.

Bang-!

The thrusters sprang to action as I blitzed through the hail of bullets and flew towards the research facility housing the blue cube.

[We're too late, sir]

I couldn't even register his words before a burst of gamma radiated outwards and the ships engines halted for a few second, making a giant jerking motion.

"Hell no!"

[Sir..]

"Activate protocol doomsday." As soon as I ordered, the ship that had been lying dormant until now, dismantled into smaller pieces the size of a small cardboard and flew towards the facility.

I broke through the metallic doors and entered the facility, revealing an unconscious scientist, a man with regal attire, Hawkeye in a daze and Nick bleeding from his torso.

"Have you come to serve under me mortal, I should warn you, it is futile to resist as I am burdened with glorious purpose!"

I ignored the hillbilly clown and flew towards the portal that was increasing in size.

Several other androids flew in and started to evacuate the people, including the clown.

I left the small tasks to veritas and stood in front of the portal.

"Activate the cooling systems and scan through the entire device to look for an emergency shutdown mechanism."

[Confirmed. The device has been scanned. I have placed the shock absorbers around the perimeter and used the redirector to accelerate dispersal, device is no longer heating up anymore sir]

"But?..."

[But this is only a temporary measure, if we do not make a new shutdown mechanism, the device would blow up]

The magnetic gloves thrummed to life at full potential and lifted the entire facility while Nick and his buddies watched in shock.

[It is not enough sir]

Fwooo-!

A small gust of wind started blowing around us, slowly gathering speed until it turned into a compressed tornado. My vision which had been dormant until now, started glowing and the facility lifted off the ground.

Once we were a few hundred meters off the Hellicarrier, I ordered veritas to enlarge the energy redirectors to encircle the portal and compress it.

[The portal will explode in 3…2…1]

Boom-!

A deafening noise rang out followed by a blinding light with me just outside the encirclement. The hot flames now turned into plasma was so intense that the shockwave would've travelled through the entire hemisphere, if not for my intervention.

Even now my shock absorbers were quickly dwindling in numbers.

I didn't waste my time and put my plasma coated hand in the ball of plasma and used all facilities at full potential.

If I can't contain it, I'll just transform it into another form of energy.

With that though I opened up all the functions of my suit and kept expending my battery to refill it.

It was a crude method, something akin to charging you phone while using it. The energy consumption was barely large enough to halt the explosion after I added the rest of my ship to the mix.

No one tried to intervene at this moment. It was a good chance to take me down but only a fool would do that in this situation.

With bated breath, they all watched as I kept absorbing the energy.

Except for one man.

One man with a terrible paranoia and an eyepatch…
