A Place Called Home

Finally, with our trays in hand, we walk from the line. I scan the tables for a place to sit. Most of the tables were full. I spot one in the center towards the back of the room. I lightly smack one of Savannah's blazer sleeves. I motion with my hand in the direction of the table. She nods before we head towards the table.

Suddenly, A tall, lean figure rams into me. My tray crashes straight into my chest, and I can feel the ketchup seeping into my white shirt. I moan out loudly. I see the guy walking away as if nothing happened. I stomp over to the small group surrounding him and barge between them.

A pair of eyes find mine. Immediately I'm taken by his appearance. The mindless ramble on the tip of my tongue diminishes. The guy who hit me has no emotion on his face. His stark, gray eyes were dead. I have a dumbfounded look on my face as I realize the group's attention is entirely on me.

"I don't know if you realized you hit me back there."

He frowns.

"You made me waste my whole tray of food."

He stares at me as if I'd grown another head. The guy standing beside him starts cackling. He looks like he's offended.

He pushes steps towards me until his body looms above me. He gives me a once-over. Then his lips turn into a grimace.

"Why would I give a shit about hitting trash."

My eyes grow wide before I jerk my head back in repulsion.

"You're a dick." My shoulders hunch. '

I felt like someone slapped me in the face. I turn my back to them. I note the several eyes watching me in disgust. When I was steps from where Savannah was, I hear him.

"Be careful. You might find out."

I hear someone laughing at my back, and my pace falters.. Savannah casually glances my way as we walk. I don't utter a word until we sit down at the table.

"You do know who that was, right?"

"I don't know who anyone is beside you."

She slapped her forehead as if a light bulb went off inside her head before a French fry disappears in her mouth.

"Oh right." Her expression goes blank. "Damon, Sade, and Kyro. If you hear any of those names, run as quick as you can."

She has to be joking. My grin drops as her expression grew serious.

She gives me a knowing look then shakes her head.

"Look, you don't have to state the obvious. Damon is fine and stocked but he's also someone that doesn't mingle with people like us." She points out.

I was curious to hear more. Questions flooded from my mouth.

"Meaning what, exactly."

She opens her mouth and bits a corner of the burger in her hands.

"Meaning, their whole group feels like they're above everyone else. Simply because each of their families owns a piece of this town in some shape or form."

Like any other school, the popular kids ran the show. It wasn't anything new or something that sparked fear in me. Other than being on the opposite end of his harsh words, I wasn't scared of anyone. Aversion would be a more suitable description of how I felt about Damon and his group of friends.

Savannah was the type of girl you'd assume was an airhead. She talked a mile a minute and switched topics during a conversation like it was nothing. She was incredibly down-to-earth and friendly. Savannah was probably one of the prettiest females I'd ever seen. Her stark white bob cut usually stuck out in a crowd. She was the perfect example of "Don't judge a book by its cover".

After lunch, we part ways and head to our next class. I had two more to go before I can finally escape this place. When the last bell rang for the day, I practically jump from my seat to get to the bus station in time. I notice a group of guys standing around three cars in the parking lot. One of them looks my way while I pass them.

He eyes me curiously then yells my way. "Hey pretty, want to come over here and let me have a taste?"

He wriggles his eyebrows. Masking an ugh sound under my breath, I glance back. I see Damon staring at me. Lust and something else poured from his eyes.

His eyes rolled down my body before a smile peeks from his full lips.

"Don't forget what I said."

I hear a few of his friends whistle. My face turns sour.

"In your dreams, asshole!" I yell back.

Silence met my back. I chuckle under my breath as I step onto the sidewalk. My steps sprout closer to the bus terminal. If I walk fast enough, I know there's no chance I should miss it. The shuttle was skidding to a stop by the time I got there. I step onto the bus and share a smile with the driver while I pay. I fumble my way to find a seat and slide into one at the back of the bus.

The whole ride home, all I could see was Damon and his alluring eyes staring back at me. There was no mistaking that he was an asshole, but he was one for sore eyes. The pretty ones always had to be assholes. It was just my luck that he happened to be the asshole that I had crashed into, and just thinking about what happened earlier makes me cringe. It's not surprising since my luck was crap. If I have to deal with that for the rest of my senior year, I might as well leave now. I was a fighter like my Grandma used to say. I wasn't going down that easy.

Welcome to the land of rich and motherfuckers with silver spoons stuck up their asses.
