Destination, Determination, Deliberation

A few days after his meeting with Edward Tonks, Matthew used a Portkey to Travel to the Scottish Highlands. To be precise to the mountain Range close to Hogwarts where Sirius would have hidden himself in the Original Timeline. He needed a wide and open space where he could practice without alarming anybody. Beforehand he repaired his Magitech Drones since he needed its assistance for his training.

Once he arrived he explored the Mountains a bit until he found a small valley where he would be hidden from sight and other Humans. After placing privacy and notice-me-not Wards around the Valley he was ready to begin his training.

There were two pieces of magic he wanted to learn since they would be very handy, the first one was the art of apparition, the most common travailing Method of Adult Wizards. Who wouldn't want to learn a form of teleportation?

Apparition was a magical form of transportation, in which the user traveled instantly from one location to another, without traversing the space in-between. This was accomplished by having the user focus on the desired location in their mind and then purposely disappearing from where they were, to reappear at the desired location. Apparition was by far the fastest way to get to the desired destination but was tricky to pull off correctly and disastrous if botched. If the Wizard screwed up it would result in splinching or even Death.

That was also the reason why needed his Magitech Drone to practice Apparition, he just felt that the risk of splinching himself was too dangerous, since he valued his life and all his body parts but didn't dare or rather could ask another Wizard to help him learn it. He didn't want to share his true capabilities at the moment. So he designed his Drones modular with the ability to exchange their arm tools. One of these tools was imbued with rune formations for healing and another the splinching reverse Charm.

As his first target, he transfigured a wooden Ring where he would fit in and placed it on the ground a few meters before him. According to his knowledge, the further the distance a Wizard apparated the harder it gets. It had a theoretical range limit based on the power of a Wizard and his concentration. It was advised that inter-continental Apparition should only be attempted by the most highly skilled of wizards. But in theory, if a Wizard had enough power, he could even apparate to other planets, but the power cost was immense and even someone like Dumbledore could at most apparate from Britain to the United States. That's why Matthew choose as beginner distance only a few meters.

"Are you ready Drone 1?" asked Matthew making sure his safety net was in place.

"All Systems ready and operational!" replied the Drone in its mechanical voice.

"Okay, then I will begin." Murmured Matthew as he closed his eyes and began to concentrate. He imagined himself standing in the middle of the wooden Ring and channeled his magic, and after a few minutes… nothing happened.

"Are you thinking about the three D's sir? Destination, Determination, Deliberation!" asked the Drone after a while quoting Wilkie Twycross the Ministry instructor from the Department of Magical Transportation that guided Harry's batch of Hogwarts Students in the books.

"Wow, now I already get mocked by a supposedly emotionless AI." Joked Matthew as he tried to guess what he was missing. After all, Apparition was a relatively difficult and advanced form of magic only learned by Students at their end of education and only used once they reached adulthood.

"Just trying to assist you with your goal, sir." Replied the Drone in its monotone voice.

Matthew knew that Apparition was not really teleportation but a form of Wormhole travel. Teleportation was the instant transportation of matter or energy from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. While Apparition according to his analysis created a small Wormhole between two places and squeezes the Wizard through it similar to his portal creation magic just faster. Maybe his mental image was wrong, since he imagined himself to instantly appear in the ring, he should try to imagine the whole wormhole creation process between to two places while focusing on the target location. His focus on Determination and Destination should be perfect, he was a master of Occlumency after all. The Problem should be the Deliberation, the image of the whole process.

"Be ready Drone 1. I will try it again." Said Matthew with new determination ready to try his new Theory.

"Affirmative!" replied the Drone still focusing on its creator.

Matthew once again closed his eyes and focused on his target the space inside the wooden Ring. But this time he imagined himself squeezing through a hole in space leading to his target location. And suddenly felt his whole body twist, the next thing he knew everything went black, he was pressed very hard from all directions, he could not breathe, there were iron bands tightening around his chest, his eyeballs were being forced back into his head, his ear-drums were being pushed deeper into his skull. With a loud crack, he arrived inside the wooden Ring. He just apparated for the first time.

"Are you ok, sir?" asked the Drone after seeing no damage or harm on Matthew's body.

"Yes, I am perfectly fine. No splinching or anything." Replied Matthew while thinking that it was not bad for his first apparition attempt, yes it felt kinda sloppy and weird, while the noise that accompanied his apparition was very loud, while masters of the art were able to do it with only a simple plob, for his second attempt it was not bad.

Now that he understood the principle he began to practice from a further distance. In the end, he spent the rest of the day practicing apparition and managed to improve significantly. At the end of the day although it was still kinda loud he managed to do it without needing to concentrate for a long time. He even apparated home all the way from the Scottish Highlands to his family garden in London.

He would spend the next few days practicing to master the art and push the other magic he did want to practice to the back of his Schedule since less than perfection was unacceptable for him. Especially for life-saving and practical magic like Apparition.

~ Scene Break ~

A few days later at breakfast with his Parents, an Owl from Hogwarts with his Shopping list arrived. After reading its contents and confirming what he needed for his Fourth year in Hogwarts, his Mother began to ask him, "When are you visiting Diagon Alley?", already accepting the fact that he could do his School Shopping alone.

"I will go on the 19th of August. There will be a book signing event at Flourish and Blott's the Bookstore where we got my books. The Author a person named Gilderoy Lockhart is rumored to be our teacher this year. And I would like to take a look at him before the year starts." Explained Matthew while also wanting to see the Canon events in order to make sure that everything goes according to his plans.

"Oh, did you read his books?" Asked his mother with interest.

"I read one of them and they are absolutely a fantasy novel. And I don't mean because of magic. No, all the things he wrote about were exaggerated and sometimes impossible. He even claimed to have cured Lycantrophy which isn't true. But he sells his books as truth." Ranted Matthew.

"And such a person will be your teacher?" asked his Father.

"Probably. I guess that most people are scared of the Position of the DADA Teacher since it is apparently cursed. So the Headmaster at this point hires anyone available. Maybe next year you should try to apply for the position dad." Joked Matthew with his family.
